My dad thinks I'll fail at building a PC, and it makes me worry Posted: 05 Jul 2020 05:50 AM PDT So I'm turning 17 on July 20th, and I asked for a PC, since my old one was a business laptop that my dad gifted me in 2014. It has been running really slow lately, which made it almost impossible to work on, so I asked for a new one. Now, my dad is very strict, and back in 2014 he told me that the laptop he bought will be the last computer that he'll buy for me with his own money, hinting that he won't ever buy me another PC. It's really hard to explain to him that a 6 year old PC with an i3 and 6GB of DDR3 memory won't last for too long, since he's kind of stubborn. He has a friend who has a diploma in radio engineering, and my dad thought that he'd help, but when I talked to him, his words didn't make sense to me. He was essentially saying the same thing, that I'd fail at it, and that it's impossible to build a PC on your own without help of professionals, and that you need a $20k tech to set it up (?). My dad believed him, and now he's saying that I'll fail at building a PC, and that $550 dollars is a big amount of money to throw away (meaning that I will fail and the parts will be useless afterwards). It made me really sad, I feel like he doesn't trust me. He says that buying an used Macbook Air 13" from like 2013-2015 would be a better deal, and after I finish 11th grade he'll take it away from me to use in travels and such. This will be my first time building a PC (if it's ever going to happen lol) My specs will be: Ryzen 5 1600 AF RX 5500 XT 4GB Crucial Ballistix 2666@16 8*2 Gigabyte B450M S2H Crucial MX500 250GB Cooler Master Q300L Be Quiet! System Power 9 500W I need a little check since I'm not sure if it's going to run together. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]
I had a problem keeping windows running after upgrading my FX-8350 to Ryzen 7. Posted: 05 Jul 2020 09:52 AM PDT https://i.imgur.com/hJg5OmI.jpg
I've finally bit the bullet and upgraded my old AMD FX-8350 I purchased back in 2013, but not without its problems. The motherboard is wasted on me; since I never overclock. However, with stock being so low, I just got tired of waiting and pulled the trigger. It's the nicest motherboard I've ever owned. Too bad it'll be out of date within 2 gens of processors. Issue 1: I was going to use my old case instead of using this one, but I didn't feel like removing the old motherboard and AIO. Plus the "new" case has a window to see the RGB. The main problem is the case only has room for 2 HDD in the rack (additional racks can be purchased) and my primary HDD doesn't fit in the caddies (NAS drive missing two screw holes). So, I basically wedged the drive in sideways with a piece of cardboard) https://i.imgur.com/NMNpvEq.jpg. Issue 2: This one is the reason I'm posting this since locating a fix on the internet wasn't yielding any useful information. After installing Windows 10, I was having problems with keeping the computer up and running more than 3-5 minutes, after which it would blue screen due to the Client_Watchdog_Timeout. Troubleshooting Steps I followed:
TLDR: Update your Windows 10 installation media before embarking on other troubleshooting procedures. [link] [comments]

Can i use an integrated graphic card on a motherboard Posted: 05 Jul 2020 12:04 PM PDT I just wanted to ask that is an integrated graphic card on a motherboard such as in asus ex A30M worth it? and if so,are there any different or better variants as I am planning on buying a graphic card after a 2 month peroid due to the coronovirus [link] [comments]
Is it possible to make a PC under $675? Posted: 05 Jul 2020 12:04 PM PDT I am on a tight budget, and want to make some PCs. I don't want to waste a lot of money just to play around. I would personally want Linux compatible things, because I don't want to pay for Windows. We just gave away an HP Omen, so we want another Gaming computer. Not that Minecraft is very heavy, we mainly want it for things like Video Editing, programming, and similar. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Posted: 05 Jul 2020 10:51 AM PDT (First build on my own). Tax returns finally came in just in time for my birthday (July 7th). I spent the last few months researching everything I could and swapping parts as I learned more. The build went smooth and powered on first try! Everything seems to be working as it should. Now I just have to wait for an electrician to come see how much it will cost to update some of my wall outlets from a 2prong to 3prong with a ground so I can have my computer plugged in safely on my desk. After that I will install Windows 10 and update all my drivers. I am super happy with how everything turned out. It has been years since I spoiled myself with anything and I love computers and gaming. I will write reviews and update as I get everything complete and actually get to play with it but first I would like to send thanks to everyone that has helped me through this experience... Thank you Pcpartpicker, Reddit, and YouTube (JayzTwoCents, Paul's Hardware, and Bitwit). Budget ~$1500 USD, looking for criticism, first-time builder Posted: 05 Jul 2020 07:13 AM PDT Budget ~$1500, looking for criticism, have a few questions, first-time builder Hi, recently I decided to take a leap and build a gaming PC. I have a budget of $1500 (including monitor) and the games I'll be playing will be Minecraft, Terraria, and some MMO games. I want this PC to be reliable. I will also be using it for school. Here is my parts list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/bdvrb8 -I'm mostly concerned about cooling & if I picked too much or maybe just the wrong parts. -I'm also looking for criticism about the PSU, maybe some better, reliable other options. -I do have access to a Micro Center -If you have any criticism or advice about any of the parts, please don't hold back. Thank you! :) [link] [comments]

Finalized the build on my previous post with several changes Posted: 05 Jul 2020 01:35 PM PDT Hey folks! I posted about a week ago here to get some comments on my build idea and I finally realized it. I had to make some changes though because 1) some of the components were not available in my country 2) could increase by budget a little bit more. Final list is below at the end of the post. Final price was about $1900 (converted to USD from local currency) but prices on pcpartpicker don't seem to be accurate though. Here are a few close up shots of the build. I tried to keep the RGB stuff as simple as possible. That being said, I currently love the end result. Any comments, suggestions, and criticism are welcome. Now if you'll excuse me, I'll continue where I left off on Hotline Miami.

First time building a PC to play games with my boyfriend and I have a few questions. Posted: 05 Jul 2020 12:53 PM PDT Hi! Building a pc has always been on my bucket list and I finally have some money and time. Local games are few and far between these days, and I'm running out of games to play with my boyfriend (we only have one pc, pre-built). So I want a pc mainly for online gaming (overwatch, gta 5 etc.). I have an amd 5 2600x without a cooler and a budget of around 1250$. I will probably buy 144hz monitor, so 144 frames on medium/high settings in overwatch would be great. I'm not sure about 1440p monitor, can my build even run such high resolution with 144 frames? Regarding the pc case, I don't really care about the looks like rgb and stuff etc. I'm just looking for a case that has usb slots on the front and not on the top, but I'm kind of lost. What would be an easy case to build in? Any recommendations? My build looks like this so far: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/q77QHB Should I worry about the compatibility notes? Any suggestions will be appreciated. (I'm from europe btw) [link] [comments]
mATX Air-Cooled Beast: Chassis Ideas? Posted: 05 Jul 2020 05:37 AM PDT Hello everyone, I've become fascinated with the idea of an all air-cooled tiny machine after playing with water cooling for a couple years. However, I've never used/looked into mATX or ITX configurations before, so I would love to hear your thoughts about the best small cases on the market. A few considerations are: 1) It must fit a big fat CPU air cooler (NH-D15, for example). 2) It must fit a big fat aftermarket GPU air cooler (Raijintek Morpheus II, which takes up three whole PCI-E slots when installed). 3) It must have a reasonable amount of space for drives/fan controllers. 4) It would preferably allow plenty of airflow for these coolers. 5) It would preferably have refined, non-gamery styling. What do you guys think? Any mATX enthusiasts out there? [link] [comments]
Is there a build that can outperform the ps5 and Xbox Series X for $500 - $700 Posted: 05 Jul 2020 09:49 AM PDT A friend of mine who's avid on being right tried telling me that you can't build a pc with better components than either of the next generation consoles without spending over their release price. It would make the most sense to me that you would be able to build one with similar components and around the same price range but I'm not too informed on building PCs so I'd figure I'd ask the subreddit that is. Also if anyone knows a build that is able to, can you please link the components? [link] [comments]
Posted: 05 Jul 2020 12:32 PM PDT I don't understand what's going on. I have my motherboard's Q-Code display set to show CPU temp after post. What exactly is the Q-Code reading? It doesn't seem to match up with any of the values in hwinfo (Tctl/Tdie, average, etc.). The software I've tried is consistent, and at idle is between 50 and 60 degrees. Problem is, the Q-Code reading is exactly 10 degrees below that. I can't seem to find any clarity on this aside from comments about how AMD offsets temp readings to push the fans harder, but shouldn't the Tctl/Tdie read the exact temperature without an offset? Why is my motherboard reading lower? Is ASUS lying? Reading a different sensor than anything in hwinfo? Lian Li o11 Vertical GPU and temp issues Posted: 05 Jul 2020 12:00 PM PDT Hey folks. Here's a picture of my setup: https://imgur.com/a/aDtOTW3 3 bottom fans are intake. 3 side fans are exhaust. 3 top fans are intake to pull through radiator for CPU. I love the way my vertical GPU looks, but I am finally admitting that the setup needs some serious optimization. My GPU (2080ti aorus) hits 79 on Overwatch @ 144hz 1440p. I dont think it should. My options are to just flip my GPU horizontal, or try to flip side fans to intake and top fans to exhaust. OR just water cool the GPU but I can't find a nice looking water cooler that looks as good for the gigabyte aorus. Any suggestions? Any other people with same problem? Is R5 3600 still worth getting? Posted: 05 Jul 2020 08:07 AM PDT I know, or heard that R5 3600 is recommended since release due to performance per dollar compare to Intel but now the i5-10600K or even the KF version is about $50 cheaper. I have compared both board same price and feature between AMD and Intel but the CPU on i5 is only $100 more. 10600K is definitely a gaming CPU (+$100). 10600KF (+50) (KF = no iGPU) 3600 is more content creator CPU (all rounder). At this point my goal is to build a system by 2021 (till 30X0 GPU - long term building around Cyberpunk 2077. [link] [comments]

Is the Team Group Vulcan a good SSD choice for me? Posted: 05 Jul 2020 01:52 PM PDT Here is my part list:
I am thinking about getting two of the Team Force Vulcan 500GBs. It checks all the boxes on NewMaxx's spreadsheet - DRAM, TLC, good controller, performance tier. I originally wanted an NVME but I don't know that I'll actually benefit from the performance increase. I also don't want to go with a QLC drive because I'm sure I'll eventually fill one or both of these up. I want this system to last me 4-5 years of university and 1080P 60 FPS gaming. I will also be coding for school but that won't be heavy stuff. Are there any other better options out there? $100 for 1TB of good SSD storage seems pretty good to me, and the deal ends tonight.
