So I got a new job back in 2014, and was on pretty much double my previous pay, so I had a lot of extra playing around money. the first thing I did was go to my mate who's been building PCs all his life and said "I want a class gaming PC, please build me one"

    So I came out with;

    Asus Gryphon Z87 Intel i7 4770k 16GB 1600 Corsair Vengence GTX 780 8GB H100i Hydro AIO Corsair Rm650 gold

All wrapped up in a sleek Corsair Obsidian Case.

All together it cost me between 13-1400 pounds and I was buzzing, it ran beautifully and there wasn't many games I couldn't have running at high/ultra. Peripherals came over the next year or so, Corsair K70 Cherry, LG Ultrawide monitor, Razer Deathadder Elite mouse.

Then came 2017, and I thought I'd treat myself, so along came a GTX 1070 and a HTC Vive, and again, I fell in love.

2019 new years sales came along, and I bought myself another treat, a Samsung LC34F79x, a whopping 34" 1440p quantum dot display ultrawide monitor (on sale at £400 down from £850!)

But apart from the GPU my original, now 6 year old pc, is still running strong. Shadow of the Tomb Raider runs 50-60 FPS easily, same for MW:Warzone and Witcher all in 1440p. yeah, a lot of people wouldn't be happy with that FPS, but for me it's just dandy.

How's your 6 year old PC doing?

    PC isn't recognizing storage

    Posted: 14 Apr 2020 05:14 PM PDT

So I just built my first pc last weekend, and as I finally went to install windows, I saw that there wasn't anything to move it onto. I checked the sata connectors, and my ssd and hard drives are perfectly connected into ports 1 and 2. I reconnected them, and nothing. I keep flashing the bios and it never shows up. I dont know if I broke them, or I just didnt connect them right? I'm so close to the finish line, and yet it feels like I'm never going to get there. My motherboard is the msi b450 a pro max.

EDIT: I'm the dumbest person in existence. I forgot that they need power.

Samsung SSD failures - how to handle samsung warranty.

    Posted: 15 Apr 2020 11:31 AM PDT

Just a heads up internet, if you want to deal with the SAMSUNG SSD failure warranty situation OUTSIDE the retailer (eg. no receipt, retailer not in business) calling 1800SAMSUNG is almost 100% useless.

Samsung has a SEPARATE department for SSDs called Samsung Memory Services. This for ALL North America.

You can contact them at samsungmemorysupport@sea.samsung.com or 1-888-480-5655.

For the voice prompt, say "Solid State Drive", then say "Representative", twice

They will RMA your SSD/memory device if the warranty is still in effect.

IF NO RECEIPT, they WILL also RMA from factory date of manufacture (this is 100% opposite of what 1800SAMSUNG tech support will tell you).

Note that in most cases, they will send out a refurb SSD unit for you.

Can someone review my parts list and make sure everything is compatible?(Ryzen 3600, 5700 XT)

    Posted: 15 Apr 2020 07:45 AM PDT

Gonna go to Canada Computers soon to pick up my order, can someone look over my list and make sure everything is okay? This is my first time building a PC; I've done a fair bit of research so I'm pretty sure it's fine, but just in case..

    https://pcpartpicker.com/list/njDcFG

(I'm actually getting a Corsair SPEC-04 w/tempered glass as the case, but it's not listed on that site)

Also, is there anything I should know? In terms of building, only things I know are 1. Have a copy of windows 10 ready and 2. Dont build on a carpet/with socks. I'm basically just gonna follow along with youtube tutorials for the whole set up.

I have no understanding of Intel CPU's, been using AMD my entire life

    Posted: 15 Apr 2020 07:49 AM PDT

I'm working on building a system for my sister's boyfriend. A fairly basic PC that isn't required to do much but has room to grow. As someone who defaults to AMD I made a component list that included an AM4 socket mobo with a Ryzen 2700X on it. He insisted on Intel and asked me to adjust the build. I... legit have no idea what I'm looking at. These model numbers don't mean anything to me.

What's a comparable Intel CPU to a Ryzen 2700X and what's a good mobo to go with it?

Any warnings or suggestions for this build?

So I'm helping my brother build a PC, and his budget is roughly $1,400. I tried setting up a list for him with some parts I've heard good reviews about. He doesn't really know what he's going to play yet, but he wants the best he can get for the price so he can run anything and everything. Is there anything I should add/remove?

Woke up to a fried PSU and Motherboard

    Posted: 14 Apr 2020 05:09 PM PDT

Just needed an outlet to share my pain lol

Woke up this morning and my computer wouldn't start. Did the paperclip test on the PSU and it failed, so I ran out to Microcenter to buy a new PSU. Ended up getting a Corsair RM750x. Hooked it up to my old PC and still wouldn't start. Tested my newish 1660Ti and my SSD/HDD in my son's computer, and they all fired up, so I figured the motherboard was shot too. It was an i7-4790k from like 6 years or so ago. SO I went online and started ordering. New PC will be:

    Ryzen 5 3600x (new)

    MSI 1660Ti

    16GB G.SKILL TridentZ RGB (new)

    Gigabyte X570 AORUS Elite (new)

    Samsung 860 EVO 1TB

    Corsair RM750x PSU (new)

    Coolermaster Masterbox MB520 (new)

Thanks for listening. I dont need help, I'm just sad and wanted to share.

Provide any additional details you wish below.

I want to be able to play my Vive as well as run Division 2 and preferably the next wow expansion without many issues. I would prefer to go with a case like this just because of the limited desk space I have and it would be easier to bring with when I travel for work.

    Air Cooler Suggestions

    Posted: 15 Apr 2020 01:07 PM PDT

Looking to pull the trigger on an upgrade soon. My current setup has a CoolerMaster 212 Plus, but its quite old now and is showing its years, plus its bulky and gets in the way of the DIMM slots. So here I am looking for suggestions for air coolers that would fit a z390 board, this is the one I'm considering.

I was looking at the Scythe Mugen, but it seems to be out of stock everywhere.

GPU and peripheral RGB keeps resetting after boot

    Posted: 15 Apr 2020 07:47 AM PDT

I have a very new build, 2 days old. The problem I'm having is that my GPU (MSI 2060 Super Armor OC) and mouse & keyboard (both SteelSeries) RGB settings keep resetting to default (rainbow).

I have other RGB components as well, including my motherboard, case fans, and AIO cooler, but those settings are able to stay at the desired setting while my GPU and peripherals keep resetting and require a manual change in the necessary software (Mystic Light via Dragon Center, and SteelSeries PrismSync)...

Is there a setting or something that I'm missing and is causing the RGB effects to keep resetting after each boot?

You guys helped me out tremendously as a wee lad back in 2014 so I was hoping for some input. Quarantine has gotten me back into gaming and I'm wondering if this build would still hold up with a ram/gpu upgrade or if it would be more in my interest to save up some money and start over.

My PC died and I can't figure out why. Please help

    Posted: 15 Apr 2020 02:35 AM PDT

My PC died a couple of weeks ago. I work in a hospital so I don't really have time at the moment to get it looked at. One day I was working on music and it just shut off. It's about 3 years old. Can't quite remember what the specs are but I know it's got an MSI motherboard, 16gb vengeance ram, GTX 1070, Intel i5 (maybe??), and a 800W power supply. If you fellas could give me a hand that'd be swell. Cheers!

$800-1200 PC Build Help! First ever build!

    Posted: 15 Apr 2020 05:52 AM PDT

    Hey guys,

Looking to build first PC ever and am in desperate need of assistance. Getting super overwhelmed with certain parts and their compatibility. I'm especially stuck on graphics card. I'll give a little insight it what I'm looking to get out of the PC.

    ~

My main needs to get out this build to have a mid-high tier system to run almost any game i throw at it. I especially want to be able to run CSGO, PUBG, etc at a very comfortable rate. On top of this, i want the capability to be able to stream games and run other software such music production, low end video softwares, etc.

    ~

I have be looking toward AMD Ryzen 5 3600 over any intel system to get me there. From here I have little to no knowledge on what I should add to this. Does anyone have any build/ part lists that would form a PC that can handle my needs? Aesthetics aren't so important to me, just looking to get the best value to performance i can get.

EDIT: Small pc part picker list i put together, critique it as much as you wish: https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/kyxcFG

    Thanks in advance!

    Posted: 15 Apr 2020 01:22 PM PDT

I know $300 is a ridiculously low budget for this kind of thing but I'm probably not gonna play a lot of new stuff with extremely realistic graphics at Max settings. Just want something that's better than my current $100 hp laptop.

Thanks to Pawacorn from the PCPartPicker forums for coming up with this build!

Building a budget PC, need tips

    Posted: 15 Apr 2020 08:56 AM PDT

    Hello guys!

I plan on building me a nice budget PC, that I'm gonna use for gaming and work, and I'm gonna upgrade it over the years, but I'm kind of a newbie in all this, so I think I'm gonna need a few tips because I think I might just mess something up. My main questions are related to the prices of the components. Which ones I can afford to buy cheap, and where I should go for the more expesive options?

First things first - my budget is about $200 to $300, I won't buy anything big and most of the components are probably going to be second hand where possible. I live in Bulgaria and the prices of second hand components here aren't too high right now.

The basic idea is to snach a cheap CPU, new or second hand (along with a cheap, matching motherboard) - probably i3 or i5. Right now there are a bunch of cheap Ryzen 3 1200 for a little over $50, so that's another option, a matching motherboard should cost the same.

I'll be looking for a 400-500 W PSU, but honestly I've no idea what should I look for in it, besides the power. I see dirt cheap PSU for no more than 15-20 bucks, but there are more expesive options and I don't know what's the difference really.

8 GB of RAM will do for me, there are cheap options on the market here aswell, both for DDR3 and DDR4 (I know I should buy DDR3 or DDR4 according to what's compatible with my motherboard) along with more expensive ones.

I plan on using the HDD from my laptop, would that be possible? I belive the HDD is Samsung SATA 8MB 5400 rpm.

The case is gonna be a generic one, cheapest possible, no luxurious stuff.

And the GPU is gonna be a second hand RX 470, GT 960, GTX 1050 Ti or something along the lines, the cheapest possible. There are some of those lying around in the shops in my city, costing no more than 60-70 bucks. If I can't afford those, I can settle for a lower end GPU like 1030.

Do I have to think about something else? Am I missing something? And what can I mess up when I'm assembling the configuration? Any kind of help is gonna be usefull, thank you.

random crashes, signs point to GPU or RAM but cant pinpoint

    Posted: 15 Apr 2020 12:37 PM PDT

    PROBLEM & SYMPTOMS:

computer will randomly crash when doing nothing/ surfing web, sometimes when playing games.

    1. Most times the yellow light (RAM) on the motherboard will turn on.

    2. Other times, when restarting computer, the screen will "fuzz out" like a broken monitor, then go through all of the motherboard check lights before booting normal. This is relatively new.

    3. If a game freezes, I can almost always close it by CTRL+ALT+DEL, it doesnt freeze whole computer

    THINGS I TRIED:

    removed all overclocks, still happened

did several RAM checks/ re-seats/ checked one at a time in different slots, did 15x rounds of RAMTESTx86 usb, no problems

Installed latest drivers for chipset & gpu

tried high performance & ryzen power plan

stress tested GPU and CPU for several hours, no problems, max heat under 70C for both

    Reinstalled windows 10

    chkdsk & windows memory utility

GPU driver uninstall & fresh gpu install

Nothing in event viewer that gives clues

    SPECS:

    Ryzen 2600 @ 4Ghz 1.35v (bios overclocked), be quiet! dark rock 3

Asus X470 gaming-F, Bios 4804 (users reported instability on newer bios versions)

    GPU: sapphire rx580 nitro+ 8gb (never gets hotter than 68 C)

(overclocked via sapphire trixx when gaming, 1485 mhz, 2250 mhz ram, VDDC offset 70mV)

Ram: 2x8 gb team group vulcan ddr4 3000 mhz

    Posted: 15 Apr 2020 02:29 PM PDT

All I'm really looking for is something to help get me started away from console. I have always played on Xbox my entire life and I'm getting to the point where not having the ability to change fov and not having the game run smoothly is becoming frustrating to say the least. (I still plan on using controller on PC) Any advice at all or help is greatly appreciate so thank you in advance.

Need help installing an SSD on my motherboard. Wot am i doin

    Posted: 15 Apr 2020 02:25 PM PDT

I'm putting my build together today and I'm a bit lost on this...I tried searching some videos and diagrams but it's not coming together.

I have a Asus TUF Z390-PLUS GAMING (WI-FI) ATX LGA1151 Motherboard and a Western Digital Blue SN550 500 GB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive.

I just don't see where it goes and there is no instruction for it either in the case guide, or the mobo guide.

Did I screw up and get a MOBO that has no slot for it? Am I stupid?

I like that case and would prefer to stick with it. Other than that everything is open to change. This is what I have come up with. Please let me know what you think and what you would change. Thanks.
