Help me find my long forgotten dream pc case.

    Posted: 21 Jul 2020 11:46 AM PDT

When I was growing up I got introduced to the world of console gaming through my older brother, but it wasnt untill a bit later when he showed me RuneScape I started to notice the PC world. A few years pass and I started playing alot of WoW and by this time had my own computer that had gotten passed down. It was an old one, cant even remember the brand manufacturer. As time passed it started to show it's tale and couldn't keep up with the games. Over time I scrambled together pieces where I could find and kept building on my computer and it still runs today.

I live in a small town in Sweden called Gävle with about 100k population, at the time we only had one place selling computer parts and I remember it being called "HardSoft". One day me and my friend ( probably about yr 2012) took the bus in to town and as young aspiring gamers we went in to look at cool gaming mouses. And there it was, to this day I still remember it as the most breathtaking computer case. Most people would probably say its hideous and nauseating (def not someting for most of you) but I just turned 20 and got my first full time job and now im building the computer of my dreams.

Thats where you guys come in, I need help finding this weird piece. What i remember of the case:

The case had glossy glass kind of panels, it was the colour red and had weird graphics on it. And the biggest tell is that its shaped as an X.

I have made a painting of it below to describe the form.

Please help reddit, youre my only chance.

Trying to build my first PC... need advice

    Posted: 21 Jul 2020 11:24 AM PDT

These are the parts that I've chosen to go with after watching a few youtube videos.

    • AMD Ryzen 5 3600
    • Gigabyte B550 Aorus Elite
    • G.Skill Ripjaws V 16 GB DDR4-3600 Memory
    • EVGA GeForce RTX 2060 6GB KO ULTRA
    • ADATA 500 GB ssd
    • NZXT H510 ATX Mid Tower Case
    • Cooler Master MasterWatt 650W

but I don't know if I should switch the graphics card for a RX 5700 xt. My budget is around a $1000.

also, is I'm confused about where to plug in all the case and power supply cables, how do I figure this out? I tried to look up youtube videos but I couldn't find any on my specific parts.

also, are there any changes you recommend I make to any of the other parts?

thank you so much for taking the time to read!!

    Noobie buying a Graphics Card

    Posted: 21 Jul 2020 12:27 PM PDT

    Hi Guys!

I'm planning to buy a gpu, a cheap one. Specifically RX 580 4gb.

used ZOTAC OEM RX 580 4G, single fan, 8 pin.

websites recommend 535 watts for my psu but I only use 500watts.

Is it doable? My budget is really tight. TIGHT TIGHT

    Here's my pc specs:

    Ryzen 5 2400g

    8gb ddr4 2400

    b350m gaming pro

    1 TB hdd

should i include my monitor? 144hz

Btw I also don't know how to connect those pins when I buy one.

I also underclocked my processor to 3.550 iiishh. To remove hiccups, works!

    Thank you

    Keyboard keepss typing letterss twice

    Posted: 21 Jul 2020 12:56 PM PDT

As the title says. My keyboard keeps randomly typing letters twice. I have a Razer Black Widow Ultimate (2014). I removed all the keys and gave it a good clean. I also reduced the keystroke repeat rate to see if that helped but it didn't.

It tends to be the 's' and 'd' keys mainly, leading me to think it's simply a malfunction.

Has anyone else had this issue at all?

Also where should i build pc (on what surface, should i put everything on boxes (for example motherboard boxes).

What should i look out for? Which mistakes are very common/common?

How long does it take to build the pc? How do i know where to plug front panel connectors to the motherboard? There are like 1000 of things

    My First PC!

    Posted: 20 Jul 2020 08:41 PM PDT

https://imgur.com/a/08uSdivI got this PC as a graduation and birthday gift from my family. My uncle helped me pick out the parts basing it off his build. We just finished building it and can't wait to play all my games and basically everything! I used to game on a Acer laptop that was not suppose to play games on so the upgrade is amazing, so lucky to have a supportive family.

    Bad Luck Moment

    Posted: 21 Jul 2020 08:43 AM PDT

So I was helping out a friend with cloning his hard disk to an nvme. Needless to say the process was 1000% worse than I wanted it to to be. This is the course of events:

I get the drive and pc, but I don't have a mount for the nvme.

I use electrical tape to hold it down while I order a mount and clone the drive.

The clone starts, but the heat broke down the tape and it fell out of the slot mid-clone.

I format the drive using windows installation media.

I attempt to clone again, but I forgot to format the original primary partition so I have to restart.

I clone the drive again, but mid-clone my power went out.

The original drive seems damaged and I want to die.

I restart and the drive is suddenly okay.

I swear, I've never had this issue plague me this bad.

New Build->RAM problem, then GPU problem, then not booting at all

    Posted: 21 Jul 2020 12:17 PM PDT

So all of the parts finally arrived (build), and so this past Saturday I went to work putting everything together. I double-checked as I went through, and after everything was plugged in and in the case, I turned it on. I didn't have a monitor hooked up yet, waiting to make sure it POSTed fine. The first I checked was the "EZ Debug LEDs" on the motherboard. The DRAM light was on ("DRAM - indicates DRAM is not detected or fail."). I double-checked, and yes, I made sure to put the RAM in the right spots. 2nd and 4th from the left, DIMMA2 and DIMMB2. I took out the one stick from DIMMB2 and left the other in, and there was no RAM error light. I thought, maybe a stick of RAM is bad? So to check, I swapped the two sticks of RAM (same place, DIMMA2), but there was no error again. Just for the heck of it, I put the other stick in DIMMA1 as well, and then there was no error light for RAM. So for some reason, it had the error light only when the sticks were in DIMMA2 and DIMMB2. I don't understand that. I looked online and found a thread where someone got it to work by loosening the CPU, but I can't find that thread now. I don't know enough about computers to know why the screwing the CPU in too tight would cause problems with the RAM, but whatever; I tried loosening the screws a bit for the CPU's heat sink and it didn't help.

I left that alone and just left 1 stick of RAM in to address the next issue. When there isn't an error light for RAM, there is an error light for the CPU ("VGA - indicates GPU is not detected or fail."). Well, I could see that the fans on the graphics card were not spinning, so I knew something was up. I checked and made sure the video card was plugged in tightly, it was, but then I unscrewed it and took it out and put it back in. I made sure the PSU was plugged into it as well, all secure, but it still had the error light. I tried plugging in a monitor just in case, but the monitor wasn't receiving anything.

I took everything out of the case and replugged in almost everything (not the cables for the HDD or SSD), and I had the same problem. I tried taking the CPU out and back in and taking the graphics card out and leaving it out. Still problems with the RAM, but whatever. I tried turning the power off using the case's power button, but it wouldn't turn off. I tried multiple times without success, so I just flipped the PSU switch to cut the power. Then when I tried turning it back on again, nothing happened. No lights, no fans going, nothing. I tried turning it on with just the basics - 1 stick of RAM, CPU/heatsink plugged in, front panel from the case plugged in, PSU plugged into the 24 pin connector and the CPU power cable, but nothing happened.

I didn't have a paperclip handy Saturday (night at this point), but I got one yesterday and tried the "paperclip test" for the PSU, and I got the PSU fan to turn on, so I assume the PSU is working. I also tried to touch the two power switch connection pins together using the paperclip to see if that would turn it on, but I still got nothing.

What can I do next? Is this just a faulty motherboard, and I need to replace it? If it were a problem with any other component, then wouldn't the motherboard at least turn on and give an error light? Did I make a mistake somewhere? Did having the motherboard on my wooden table do anything? I know they can be finicky about sitting right in the case, but I didn't think a wooden table would affect it at all...

Kernel Power 41 restarts when gaming shortly after shutdown/sleep

    Posted: 21 Jul 2020 08:23 AM PDT

Hi, I built a PC for the first time (put together on the 13th) and have been having trouble with it running games (Halo MCC, Apex, etc.) shortly shutdown/reboot/sleep, as my computer seems to reset every time (display goes black, everything shuts off in the computer, it restarts on its own).

If I don't let the computer run for 15-20 minutes while browsing the internet or chatting with friends over social media or something, I get a Kernel-Power error of Event-Id 41 in Windows Event Viewer. There is also an event logged that says "Connectivity state in standby: Disconnected, Reason: NIC compliance", which seems to occur around the same time as all of these restarts.

This to me is a bit weird, since I've been able to play games for extended periods of time (upwards of 4-5h) provided I let the computer run for that 15-20 minutes before starting a game. It makes me a little worried as I just built this system. That and nobody really wants to tell their friends "hey can you wait 30 minutes while my computer warms up".

So far, I have tried updating/reinstalling all drivers to the latest available, updating BIOS, disabling fast startup, ensuring my power settings are set to performance, and disabling sleep/hibernate.

I have also put the computer under a GPU stress test and monitored my system temperatures while under load (stress test/gaming) and my CPU/GPU temperatures never exceed 85 C and mostly stay around 70 C while gaming (using the stock CPU cooler and case fans).

Similarly, I ran my memory through memtest86 and had no logged errors after 8 iterations of the test.

I have also checked the connections inside my case and nothing seems to be loose.

I am not overclocking, but I do have XMP Profile 1 enabled in BIOS so my RAM is used at 3200 mhz rather than 2133 mhz.

Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated, I'm sort of new to this haha. I plan on taking this in to a shop to have it looked at near the end of the week, but it would be nice to get more opinions.

Thank you in advance and let me know if there's any further information I can provide!

HDMI Audio for TV vanishes as soon as main monitor is turned off

    Posted: 21 Jul 2020 01:21 PM PDT

I'm running my TV (HDMI) and my monitor (DP) directly over my GTX1080 on Win10. Since a couple of days as soon as I turn off my monitor to watch something on my TV the HDMI audio just vanishes. It doesn't show up as disconnected or in device manager. If I replug the HDMI cable it comes back but then I have to replace all windows again since Win10 does it's rescale thing and therefor turn back on the main monitor and then HDMI audio is gone as soon as I turn off the main monitor again.

I've tried updating the GPU driver as well as playing around with audio device preferences and all that but I don't know what's causing this. Worked fine up until a couple days ago (maybe a Win10 update...)

    Any ideas?

    Can't choose a budget CPU

    Posted: 21 Jul 2020 07:20 AM PDT

I got 3 options, and I don't know which one is better paired with a 1650 super for a budget build:

    Ryzen 3 3100 (104EUR)

    Ryzen 3 3300X (129EUR)

    Ryzen 5 2600X (142EUR)

Is there a big difference between these? Is it worth to spend more than 104 for budget 1080p gaming?

[Question] Should I go with Ryzen 5 3600XT? other first build questions

    Posted: 21 Jul 2020 11:24 AM PDT

I am building a budget-y gaming PC, and I have a few questions. The PC is mostly going to be used for games such as Fifa, Assasins creed, Call of Duty and Battlefield. Preferably I would like to play these games on Full-HD ultra quality. I have an RX480 graphics card and would like to keep using it if possible.

Should I go with a 3600XT? According to Gamers Nexus's video, I shouldn't, but according to LinusTechTips I should as it is better in games. where I come from there is a 40 bucks difference between 3600 and 3600X and 40 bucks difference between 3600X and 3600XT.

The difference is also 40 bucks between the cheapest B550 and X570 motherboards. What is the difference? they both have PCIE 4.0. Should I go with an X570 to be more "future proof"? (I also hate that word).

I found G.Skill Ripjaws V F4-3600C19D-16GVRB ram kit for a good price. It is 3600MHz but has these timings CL19 (19-20-20-40). Is this a good choice? or should I pay a bit more to get better ram?

I would also like to ask about cheap case recommendations that have filters and enough fans that comes with it. Finally I would like to ask for a good monitor that I can use for games and as a second screen when on the laptop.

Video Card Issues with ryzen 3700x

    Posted: 21 Jul 2020 02:18 PM PDT

Hi Everybody, I'm building this pc for a friend. This build is for music editing so it needed the most powerful CPU that i could fit in the budget, but i cheaped out on the Video Card, buying the cheapest available on Amazon. The problem is the PC does not boot with this components and gives 1 long beep and 2/3 short ones (hard to tell the difference between 2 or 3). I tried various combinations with some spare parts i have available and every component seems to work on his own.

I tried using a ryzen 7 1700x instead of the 3700x and the video card works and the PC boots I tried swapping the GPU with a Zotac GTX 1060 and it boots i tried this video card (MSI GT 710) on a different PC (Intel Pentium 4560 + a MSI B250M mobo) and it works.

The video card is always seated correctly, the PSU is 500W so more than enough Watts to power this build, i have upgraded the BIOS to the latest version, the pc has a fresh windows 10 installation with all the updates, and i downloaded the NVidia drivers and performed a clean installation.

Honestly I don't know what else to try, seems like the Ryzen 3700x doesn't work with the MSI GT 710 but there should't be any incompatibilities between the two.

Any help or advice is appreciated, i'm relatively new to pc building and i don't know how to procede other than replacing the GPU. Thanks

PC Keeps Restarting For Seemingly No Reason

    Posted: 21 Jul 2020 02:18 PM PDT

I think the title is pretty self-explanatory but basically my PC does full restarts at what seem random times. I'm a first time builder as well so my thought process might not be correct. At first I think it was thermals, I was using the stock CPU cooler and it was running really hot during load but now that I've installed a cooler master hyper 212 my CPU seems to be staying very cool. But still my computer just restarts, usually under load and as far as I can tell for no reason.

My PC: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Hb9JrV + the cooler master hyper 212

Thank you, any help or advice would be nice.
