    I'm trying to help a family member get set up for some intro digital art creation and editing. He's done physical media for a while, but has too-limited funds for a full new high end computer build. We're looking to stay under $500. I've donated most of my spare parts to another family member's build, but I have a leftover itx case and fans that I'm chipping in if I can get ahold of an ITX MB. Preference will be to local; I don't want to lose budget space paying shipping if I can avoid it, and willing to meet around the Metro Atlanta and Augusta areas.

    I don't know a whole lot about digital media creation and editing applications or hardware utilization, and am still learning what I can. If you have advice on parts and program optimization, I'm also in search of that too... or even what questions to ask to help narrow my search and best spend this money. To my knowledge, we're not planning for animation, but his art aspirations are pretty broad, so given the right machine, it might come up.

    desired Parts list:

    GPU - I know it's a tight market right now. Is it too much to hope for a GTX970 or above? I don't know much about proper workstation GPUs, but they seem even more expensive.

    Motherboard - pretty flexible... just needs to pair with the CPU and have a PCIe x16 slot, but heavy preference towards more contemporary chipsets / m.2 slots, even better if it comes with a drive that already has windows installed.

    CPU - with at least 8 threads, preference towards intel (I'm just more familiar with how to manage and optimize these than older AMD chips)

    RAM - 2x8 GB or more

    Storage -500GB SSD (or NVME if compatible with MB) or more, 1TB or higher Platter drives, if I can't get high cap SSD

    PSU - 650W; form factor can be ITX or ATX

    CPU cooler under 140mm, if we use the ITX case I have

    Case - only if MBs is not itx, but it won't matter much so long as it fits the parts.

    Ive got a few things i need to get rid of since I won't pursue the SFF build and the older build was to play sims medieval and that game was meh.

    So the x570 and PSU were gonna be for a sleeper SFF that i couldn't get around to making because my gpu is to big.

    The older build was as I said earlier for an older game and wasn't worth the effort. Its a good starter piece for anyone out there, the third slot doesn't work, doesn't seem to make a difference though.
