Q Is geek bench 5 a crossplatform tool? Posted: 15 Sep 2021 02:35 AM PDT I wanted to run tests on my hardware but what makes me really surprised is the fact that the iphone 12 has better geek bench 5 scores than my 1 year old gaming laptop. Are the scores actually comparable ? [link] [comments] |

Apple A15 has 27% more transistors than A14 Posted: 14 Sep 2021 11:52 PM PDT From 11.8b to 15b. Only 1b fewer than the M1. This is an impressive increase considering that both SoCs are using 5nm. The A13 to A14 was a 29% increase but that was going from 7nm to 5nm. It appears that most of the transistor budget in the increase went to the Neural Engine and GPU with gains of 43% and 28% respectively. CPU gains might only be around 6% according to Anandtech's estimates. This seems like a deliberate choice and appears to make a lot of sense. Nearly every major iOS software feature announced recently has made heavy use of the Neural Engine, not the CPU. And of course, GPU will always benefit from an increase as we continue the march toward realistic graphics and AR. We may have to start rethinking what makes an SoC "fast". [link] [comments] |
