Trusted Platform Module (TPM): how does each stage know the expected measurement values? Posted: 21 Mar 2021 04:25 PM PDT I'm reading about Trusted Platform Module (TPM), which is a standard for a secure cryptoprocessor, a dedicated microcontroller designed to secure hardware through integrated cryptographic keys. I'm having trouble understanding how at each PCR measurement, the stage knows how to measure the next component and compared it to an expected value--especially if the OS patches part of the boot sequence, changing what the hardware, bios etc. How does the earlier stage know what it should expect if something later in the chain like the OS applied a patch to (for example) bios?
