I would like to thank you all about helping others because it saved mine too.

    Posted: 24 Mar 2021 05:52 AM PDT

While I was just a lurker here and sometimes read about pc problems which I didnt expect that it would be too useful to me. My PC has just experienced the same thing as someone who has a rat peed on their GPU, in my case I wasn't using that PC for a week and when I came to use it, won't boot up, opening the PC I saw that there are small bits of paper inside it and the GPU is wet which is half dry including the pins which has some green thing on them. Then I remember all the advice you all made about others who experienced the same, which I immediately cleaned it throughly then waited about a day to use it, and it worked that is why I am grateful to all of you who helped others and making someone like me avoid mistakes early on. Honestly I don't want to break my PC because it was the money I saved up using my launch money on 2019 and completed all the parts early 2020, I don't have parts to spare and the GPU I bought in was RX 580 the fastest GPU I can afford with my launch money which I saved up for a few months, losing it now plus lockdown means that I cant buy a part after covid subsided or until I found a job as a student. So for me I am truly grateful for all of you, without your advice here It would probably be too late before I found a solution to it.

    My RTX 3090 just died

    Posted: 24 Mar 2021 06:07 AM PDT

    Hey fellas,

I build myself a complete system two months ago. Gaming with and working on it was a complete blast and I had nothing to complain about. But yesterday during my daily gaming routine, my screen went black and the RGB on my Gigabyte RTX 3090 stopped working. I tried rebooting but still my screen kept black. Luckily I still had an old GTX 930 from my old system to try if my system works fine with a different GPU and yeah it did. So thats it.. my RTX 3090 is dead and now I have to send it in for repairing, hoping that I'll get it back soon.

    Wish me luck :(

    A simple question: Ryzen 7 2700x or Ryzen 5 3600?

    Posted: 24 Mar 2021 10:30 AM PDT

Im going to make a new pc pretty soon and i got everything i need except the CPU i can either take the R7 2700X or the R5 3600 (In my country they only have a 10$ difference so i don't care about which one is cheaper.) I'm planning on using my computer for gaming mostly so yeah thats about it.

    PC bricked from damaged USB?

    Posted: 24 Mar 2021 06:15 AM PDT

I have GTX 1070, ryzen 5 1600 that I've built and I've had for the past 2 years. Yesterday I inserted a damaged USB into a USB slot on the PC. Literal flame and black smoke came from the cable where there was live wire and I immediately removed it. I wasn't paying attention and didnt realize it was so badly damaged beforehand. I unplugged everything, waited a while and booted up the PC. It seemed fine at first but eventually my browser freezes each time. And if I attempt to boot up games like CS or Valorant, the pc instantly freezes. I sense my computer is permanently bricked. Any help or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

Best way to transport a PC a short distance?

    Posted: 24 Mar 2021 11:35 AM PDT

I would like to take my computer tower to a Best Buy that is like 10 miles away, but I want to know the best/safest way to transport it (positioning, packaging, etc.). I do still have the box and the two foam sides that come in it, btw.

Is it even worth building a PC right now or just buy a prebuild?

    Posted: 24 Mar 2021 12:32 PM PDT

I'm new here, I need a new PC for grad research and was going to build one for the first time, but with the market for GPU's so messed up I'm wondering if I should just buy a prebuilt pc and swap out components later when everything goes back to normal. Is this a good idea, or should I just bite the bullet and spend a chunk of money on a GPU?

This was the sort of build I was thinking of going with https://pcpartpicker.com/list/J7TPdD

Should I buy the parts for my new PC build now and just use my current GPU from my PC onto the build until I finally get an RTX 3070/80 series card, or should I just wait until I get a RTX card, and THEN buy the other parts?

    Posted: 23 Mar 2021 11:16 PM PDT

Because the GPU market is having a pretty bad shortage, and now that I am able to build my first PC, it will probably be extremely difficult for me to be able to get one of the new cards. So I have considered buying the other parts (CPU, motherboard, etc) for my PC build now and I'll use my current GPU (GTX 1060 6gb) from my computer (upgraded prebuilt from 2016) for it until I have a RTX 3070. Is this a good idea or should I just wait until I am able to get a 3070, and then buy the other parts?

Sorry if I asked a bad question, this is my first build.

    Experience for 3080 & 6800 XT

    Posted: 24 Mar 2021 10:57 AM PDT

Used both. upgraded from 1050 Ti.

first got lucky with 3080 - Mainly playing Forza horizon 4, BFV & CS GO. Can't complain.

Give it to friend and got 6800 XT yesterday. - Same games. no complain. a little better performance on 1440p in my opinion. YMMV.

For Forza on 1080p 144 fps, 3080 used almost 99% GPU all the time barely hitting 140-142 fps, where 6800 XT I played yesterday - 89-90% GPU with 143-144 fps stable.

To be honest, both are good. the choice is the extra features you use. I only use for games and CAD software so both are good for me. I do not play games with ray tracing or DLSS so I like 6800 XT as same as 3080. The new 6800 XT software that I use yesterday is surprisingly good (AMD can be pain for drivers sometimes)

Hope this helps for your selection.

    Case and GPU question

    Posted: 24 Mar 2021 01:31 PM PDT

So, though my chances of getting a 6800xt is obviously low, I've been looking at the Sapphire 6800xt, which says is 310mm. I have the Silverstone RV02b-EW case and states it can fit up to 309mm length cards. If, hypothetically I managed to get this card, would the extra mm on the Sapphire really matter and just require some finesse or is the 309 a hard cap and I'm out of luck?

    PC randomly shut down

    Posted: 24 Mar 2021 11:11 AM PDT

PC randomly shutdown and pressing power button did nothing. I unplugged everything and didxpaperclip test fan spin for 1 second.

I spent all day upset and randomly tested it again. PC turned on and instant burning came from gpu. I unplugged gpu and it smells burnt. PC turns on but now no monitor display on integrated graphics. PC turns on with no monitor loading up.

What should I do? Could my psu actually be broken despite pc turning on?

I'm so depressed i only have my phone to try and fix stuff. If i buy new mobo with i lose all my windows and files?

Manufacturer changed the pre-build's GPU, need advice

    Posted: 24 Mar 2021 12:29 PM PDT

Hello everyone, a couple of weeks ago i decided to get a pre-build because i was tired of gpu hunting. I was very happy with my purchase but last week the manufacturer contacted me letting my know that the gpu selected in my build (rx 6800) couldn't be included because all their amd cards deliveries were cancelled out of the blue.

So they decided to replace the rx 6800 with an rtx 3070. In their email they also included A LOT of benchmarks to let me know that the rtx 3070 performs better than the rx 6800. They also offered to refund me 50€ for the trouble caused.

Thing is i was planning on playing in 4K and while the 3070 is great and has DLSS it seems that in 4K it's limited by it's 8gb of VRAM in current games so i'm a bit worried about the future.

So i wanted to ask you guys if i'm worried for nothing, if i'm better off with a 3070 and if not should i ask for more than 50€?

    Have I been scammed?

    Posted: 24 Mar 2021 12:22 PM PDT

I bought an nvidia 1050ti graphics card, fairly cheap but not ridiculously so, fella seemed trustworthy and let me pay via PayPal, nvidia drivers will not install (black screen midway through install and only way to fix seems to be rebooting PC), and GPU-Z shows this... have I been scammed or am I doing something wrong? Modular Power Supply cable question?

    Posted: 24 Mar 2021 02:06 PM PDT

So I have built my PC and am fairly familiar with electronics (I work in IT). My modular power supply is a:

Leadex III 80 Gold HG Series 850W By Super Flower

My question is, are the cables that come with modular power supplies universal? I dislike how many "dongles" are attached to one sata line and would prefer cables that terminate in single ends. Am I able to purchase just any after market cables or will that fry my system? It does not look like Super Flower sells cables, just full PSU systems.

    Thanks!!

    Alternative GPUs

    Posted: 24 Mar 2021 11:51 AM PDT

Afther saving up my money for 4 years i wanted to start getting my build list started, and i noticed that the GPU market is a total shitstorm, my friend explained that all the mining basically fucked nvidias market.
I originally wanted to buy GTX 1080 since my friend has it but that shit costs 1600€ compared to 700€ or whatever it was 2 years ago, then i started looking at RTX but my friend said rtx is mostly same as GTX but with higher price, so now i'm looking at all the models all the way from GTX 1070 onwards and i'm VERY confused since names, prices and specs dont match up, for example rtx 3060 is better and cheaper then rtx 3070

For refrence my original list was going to be something like this give or take, and the budget was 1500€ max but 1200 was the general goal (my views pc parts were outdate by 3 years):
    R7 3700X 8C 16T
    16 GB RIPJAWS V 3200MHz ddr4
    EVGA 1080Ti SC2 11GB
    Gigabyte Aorus B450 Elite

Also if its smarter and the GPU market is THAT bad i am willing to wait, so just say if waiting is better then buying at high prices

TL;DR The gpu that i wanted to buy originally was GTX 1080 but since the GPU market is fucked i need tips on alternatives or i can wait for it all to chill out if thats smarter

I messed up major and need advice please

    Posted: 24 Mar 2021 11:38 AM PDT

First PC build and I made a major unforgivable error. I think I might have fried everything and could use some help.

Everything worked fine for a few months, and then the blue screens of death came. The past few days I've tried to install windows probably 100 times with various blue screens of death and error messages. Once I actually managed to install windows only for it to crash a few hours later. I tried various installation sticks, new ram, different GPU, new hard drive, bios update, and nothing helped.

I have just now found what I did wrong.

I had the 10-pin CPU power cable that should be plugged into the 10-pin P8/P4 slot on the PSU plugged in to the top 10 slots of the 12-pin PCIe slot. This must be the problem. I've rectified the problem now, but I still can't install windows.

I'm assuming the motherboard is fried. Will the CPU also be fried? How about the PSU, have I fried that? Is there a chance that I fried the GPU?

This was a very expensive build. I'm a moron. Please help.
