Examples of questions suitable for here:

    • Is this RAM compatible with my motherboard?
    • I'm thinking of getting a ≤$300 graphics card. Which one should I get?
    • I'm on a very tight budget and I'm looking for a case ≤$50

I'm confused about the names of gpu names for examle nvidia geforce 3080, gigabyte 3080, zotac 3080, evga 3080 so on and so forth. Are they the same gpus with the same specs just different name manufacturers?

    Posted: 23 Mar 2021 03:39 AM PDT

As the the title says. I'm in desperate need of a gpu bc i want to build a pc soon. Is this card worth it for the price? i heard its suppose to be better than the rtx 3060 ti which was the one im originally looking for. Card is used though

Edit: he lives a 2 hour car ride away. If i meet him in person are the chances im going to get scammed still big?

Could I get an F in the chat for this custom build for a client

    Posted: 23 Mar 2021 02:11 PM PDT

In the middle of building a PC for a client and I can now see the light at the end of the tunnel with the GPU on its way shorty! It's a Naruto themed build (hence the Kuruma and custom orange/yellow cables)

I have just got the glass back from the glass engravers and they have done a stunning job on it. My only issue is that I didn't specify which way the image needed to be oriented.

Since the glass on the Fractal Design Meshify C case isn't completely square I can't just rotate it to the way it's supposed to be. I am completely gutted and lost for words at my mistake.

I have put a link to how the PC is looking at the moment.

    1080p 240hz vs 1440p 144hz

    Posted: 23 Mar 2021 01:13 PM PDT

Looking to get a new monitor to upgrade from the 1080p 75hz acer monitor I have, I have a Ryzen 5 3600 with a gtx 1080 ti, but plan on upgrading to a 3070 with a 5800x in the summer. Would it be worth getting the 240hz 1080p monitor does smoother gameplay or bump up to 1440p for better visuals? Mainly looking for ur opinion as I value visuals and performance evenly

How to update ASROCK Z490 Extreme4 without supported CPU?

    Posted: 23 Mar 2021 11:38 AM PDT

    Hello there,

So, I have a ASROCK Z490 Extreme4 and my plan was to get the new 11th Gen Intel Core i9 11900k. However, the mainboard currently doesn't support this CPU and it requires a BIOS update.

(I don't know which version is installed? Is there a clue somewhere? I read about a sticker showing the version, but I dont have that)

Will I be able to flash a new version on there with an unsupported CPU or will I need a supported CPU first and then flash the BIOS? Would the system even start? And if I need a supported CPU, would I be able to buy one from Amazon and send it back after I flashed the new version on?

I have never build a PC before and don't know what to do. Please respond in easy language :D

I really appreciate any advise! :)

How dumb of an idea would it be to sell my Rtx 2070 right now?

    Posted: 23 Mar 2021 01:47 PM PDT

I'm seeing them go for 6-800$ on eBay which is way more than I originally paid for it. I have a 1650 that I can use in the meantime. Would it be worth it to sell my 2070 for 700$ and then buy a 3080 later on when they're actually available again? Please don't be mean I'm genuinely curious.

I most likely won't actually sell it but i just wanted to see if it's even worth considering

I'm building my new PC and I'm uncertain about which GPU to buy (when it becomes available)

    Should I buy a 3080 or a 6800xt? Does the DLSS matters?

    GPU for non-gaming PC

    Posted: 23 Mar 2021 09:34 AM PDT

I'm in graphics driver hell with my intel iGPU on ASRock B560M Pro4. I'm not gaming, just using it to drive a single 4k monitor. I realize GPU prices are high, so I'd like to maybe buy a basic GPU that will work for my purposes. Any recommendations? How much would I have to spend to get a GPU for these purposes?

    PC Gaming Lacking on FPS

    Posted: 23 Mar 2021 09:23 AM PDT

Hi everyone, new to the pc gaming community.

I recently built a gaming pc. Here are my specs:

    • Intel Core i7 10700k 3.8 ghz base
    • EVGA NVDIA 3070 FTW3
    • MSI MPG Z490 Gaming Edge
    • G.SKILL Trident Z RGB Series 32gb (2x16gb)
    • Seagate 6 TB storage drive
    • Power Supply: RM 850X

Monitor: LG Ultra Gear 27 inch 144hz 1ms GTG IPS Led (1440p).

I was trying to play games like Call of duty Cold War. On low graphic settings im getting between 120-130 fps and on high im getting 60-70ish fps. I am surprised that im getting relatively low fps with a 3070 series gpu. I dont think i have any bottleneck issues with the pc and I have tried redownloading the game and redownloading NVIDIA Drivers. Cooling is not an issue either.

Are there any suggestions the pc gaming community can recommend on how to increase fps? Do i have to RMA the graphics card or are the fps stats im getting normal considering i have a 1440p monitor? I searched on youtube what others fps results for similiar builds (gpu and cpu) and they were getting 200fps on low settings and 100 on high settings.

    Any advice helps. Thank you

    I haven't built a PC in almost 10 years...where do I start?

    Posted: 23 Mar 2021 11:06 AM PDT

Background: The last PC I built was for work - I'm a game developer (programmer), so I like to go heavy on a few things - CPU (for faster compilation) and RAM (because I generally have multiple IDEs and many other programs running at once). I don't generally go for a super high-end GPU, but lately I've been getting into streaming on Twitch, so this time around I'd like to build a rig that can game and stream on the same PC, which means I'll probably want/need to go the extra mile for the entire build.

But here's my concern: I've been reading that GPUs are really hard to get a hold of these days, and searching around a bit, I see that basically any GPU worth having is unavailable everywhere. (I actually found someone local on Facebook that was selling a mining rig with a dozen 3060 Ti's and 3070s, but he's only selling the whole rig and wouldn't entertain offers on one of the GPUs.)

So, given what I'm trying to do with it, I have a few questions:
    1. What would be a basic overall build (specifically, motherboard and CPU) that I should start with?
    2. What should I do about the GPU? Should I wait to build until I can get my hands one on of the good ones? Should I build the PC and find a decent GPU for now that I can replace with a good GPU later (and if so, which GPU, that's actually available, would be good enough)?

Any other advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

    Increasing RAM speed?

    Posted: 23 Mar 2021 09:30 AM PDT

I run an I5-10400F which limits RAM speed to 2666 mhz. My RAM is rated at 3200 mhz, and I have a B560 Pro4 which supports upwards of 4000 mhz, so my bottleneck is just the 10400F. Is there a way for me to open up that bottleneck and hit my full 3200 mhz?

switching from HDD to NVMe SSD for boot time but windows won't boot from my NVMe.

    Posted: 23 Mar 2021 03:00 PM PDT

So I have my hard drive with windows which I cloned using AOMEI Backupper and the process went as expected but as I went to remove my hard drive and boot with the NVMe drive, it doesn't boot. Does anyone know what I did wrong? I saw something about GPT and MBR but I don't really have a good grasp as to what it actually means.

Do GPUs “Go Bad” If Unused?

    Posted: 23 Mar 2021 02:52 PM PDT

    Hello all:

Just a quick question that hopefully one of you all can answer for me. Back in November of 2020, I was lucky enough to score a PNY 3080 off of Dell somehow.

Unfortunately due to financial burdens with my transportation and family, I've been unable to complete my build and am not 100% sure when I will be able to. Hopefully before the end of June but stuff keeps happening.

My question is, should I be concerned that my GPU has been sitting in my closet for months unused? It worries me from time.

Temperature and humidity has been pretty consistent as far as I'm aware, but I do live in a loft with high ceilings, so it's hard to finely regulate.

Thanks for any input. If I need to pop this bad boy in somewhere, I can find one of my friends to do it probably. And hopefully just transplant it into mine when I'm ready.

    3080 blew capacitor :(

    Posted: 23 Mar 2021 02:37 PM PDT

I was just playing some star wars squadrons, when suddenly I heard a poof, and both my VR headset and my monitor went blank. The room was filled with a foul smell. I disassembled the pc and while the smell was everywhere, the GPU smelled the strongest. I swapped it out for some low power GPU and it booted just fine, display on the monitor just fine. To be sure I out the 3080 back in, at first I forgot to plug in the extra pcie power connectors, as the low power gpu didn't need any. Red leds reminded me to put in the connectors and for a moment I was hopeful. Unfortunately the machine wouldn't even boot.

I'm pretty confident that this card is dead. I didn't do anything out of the ordinary, completely stock, and using a decent corsair PSU.

I have contacted the seller but in the current climate I'll probably be waiting a very very very long time :(

    Any advice?

Edit: for reference it's an Asus TUF Gaming

    Building my 2nd PC.

    Posted: 23 Mar 2021 02:26 PM PDT

Discussion / Build Help. -Please do delete post if it falls under rule 2.- Hey guys! As it says above, I'm getting ready to build my 2nd PC! I'm more than excited, I loved building my first, it was such a rewarding experience. This is gonna be my 3rd PC owned overall and after having done some more research on parts this time, I'm stuck between the ever-ongoing question "Intel or AMD?". I've spent about a week now looking at benchmarks and comparisons, and what I'm simply looking for are personal preferences and general input towards my final decision between the two manufacturers. For now I've settled on these two builds and will pick one of them out in the end!

    Intel build: PCPartPicker Part List

    Type Item Price
    CPU Intel Core i5-10600K 4.1 GHz 6-Core Processor $251.61
CPU Cooler ARCTIC Liquid Freezer II 360 56.3 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler $145.19
    Motherboard Gigabyte Z490 VISION G ATX LGA1200 Motherboard $260.39
    Memory Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro SL 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory $234.86
Storage Kingston HyperX Fury 240 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive $0.00
Storage Crucial MX500 1 TB 2.5" Solid State Drive $125.72
Video Card Asus GeForce RTX 3070 8 GB ROG STRIX GAMING OC Video Card $1019.44
Case Corsair 275R Airflow ATX Mid Tower Case $87.59
Power Supply NZXT C 850 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply $159.39
Case Fan Cooler Master MasterFan MF Halo 47.2 CFM 120 mm Fans 3-Pack $63.50
Prices include shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts
    Total $2347.69

    AMD build: PCPartPicker Part List

    Type Item Price
    CPU AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 3.7 GHz 6-Core Processor $382.77
CPU Cooler ARCTIC Liquid Freezer II 360 56.3 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler $145.19
Motherboard Asus TUF GAMING X570-PLUS ATX AM4 Motherboard $223.53
    Memory Kingston HyperX Fury RGB 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory $204.07
Storage Kingston HyperX Fury 240 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive $0.00
Storage Crucial MX500 1 TB 2.5" Solid State Drive $125.72
Video Card Asus GeForce RTX 3070 8 GB TUF GAMING OC Video Card $996.94
Case Lian Li LANCOOL 215 ATX Mid Tower Case $103.23
Power Supply NZXT C 850 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply $159.39
Case Fan Cooler Master MasterFan MF Halo 47.2 CFM 120 mm Fans 3-Pack $63.50
Prices include shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts
    Total $2404.34

Now, judging by what I've already built, my budget lands at about 2500$, which is "fine". In the end the price will be changed due to what 3070-3080 I will be able to get my hands on. I'll be using my next system mostly to game, stream and run editing software.

I look forward to hearing your input/suggestions, thanks!

    3080 Strix Waterblock.. which one?

    Posted: 23 Mar 2021 12:01 PM PDT

I finally managed to get a 3080 strix. Now I have the option of picking up a Bitspower block for it in person today... OR ordering a EKWB or Phanteks block. Does anyone have any recommendations between the three? It seems the EKWB and Phanteks blocks have more coverage but I am unsure if that nets much of a performance gain.

    1st time upgrading SSD

    Posted: 23 Mar 2021 02:06 PM PDT

Hey guys! My laptop (Acer Aspire A515-43) is out of memory so I wanted upgrade the storage available. I've already succesfully upgraded the RAM and I am running Windows 10

    I purchased the Samsung 970 EVO Plus SSD 500GB - M.2 NVMe https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07M7Q21N7/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Then got the USB 3.0 SATA III Hard Drive Adapter Cable, SATA to USB Adapter Cable for 2.5 inch https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07S9CKV7X/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The problem is when I use the samsung migration app, the newly purchased SSD does not show up. I've tried restarting the computer, made sure the cable is connected correctly and I'm not sure where I went wrong. I have the driver for the new SSD downloaded, but it says it does not detect the Samsung SSD. I'm very unexperienced when it comes to this kind of thing, but I am trying to learn. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Is My GPU Failing?

    Posted: 23 Mar 2021 06:48 AM PDT

I'm not sure if my graphics card is failing or not. I'm running a GTX 980ti and in the last couple of days anytime I launch up a game no matter what it is, after about 5 minutes both monitors lose signal and they won't get it back unless I hard reset my PC. The computer works fine for regular use just not in games. I've also ran the fuzzy donut stress test and that didn't replicate the error. I've ran DDU as well which didn't solve the problem. If anyone has advice or suggestions on what it may be I would appreciate it. And just for reference, I'm also using a Corsair 750w power supply and a Ryzen 5 3600, I'm not sure if they could have anything to do with it. Thanks fellas.

Is my pc bad / Should I upgrade?

    Posted: 23 Mar 2021 11:18 AM PDT

About a year and a half ago (August 2019) I decided to make my first pc. I always had a 10-year-old laptop, so anything was better than that. Recently, I've been getting into making youtube videos/recording mostly Minecraft gameplay (I play other things too)

I noticed that my pc is struggling to keep up. I've changed numerous OBS settings, but it still struggles. Should I upgrade my pc, or make a new one. My specs are below.

Where do you switch from airflow to static pressure?

    Posted: 23 Mar 2021 01:28 PM PDT

We all know you want high static pressure fans if you're pushing/pulling air through a radiator. Most people also recommend static pressure if you're pulling air through a dust filter. But, most people say the metal grill on the backside of cases (like this one https://ibb.co/2ShffNv) isn't sufficient to justify going for static pressure over airflow - just go for airflow in that situation.

But, what about a metal grill that obstructs more air than the usual ones in the back of the case, but less than an air filter? Here's an image of what I'm trying to move air through: https://ibb.co/RCBbJsV It's definitely more obstructed than the hexagonal shape most cases use in the back, but I think it's less obstructed than a dust filter.

I'm torn over whether to use my high static pressure fans or my high airflow fans to move air through that weirdly shaped grill. What would folks here do?

I already have the parts 5900x and the Suprim-X 3080 card. And around those two I have created the following build, is this any good, and is the memory a great fit or? Any feedback is appreciated, this will be my first build again in 12 years.

The following parts I already have : Ryzen 5900x MSI Suprim-X 10G 3080 and the MX500 1TB SSD (i will get an Nvme later, or is it difficult to build in when the motherboard is fully plugged in?)
