Freesync on non-compatible NVIDIA cards now possible with an AMD dedicated GPU? (testing)

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 04:20 AM PST

https://twitter.com/JSantos997/status/1355966257686835200 (Twitter thread with context and result images and trying to get HWUnboxed to revisit their video)

Starting with Windows 20190 you can now pick any dedicated GPU in the windows graphics settings to use as the renderer, I'm waiting to receive a 260X this week to try it out, but I just paired a 980 Ti with a GT 1030 and using the GT 1030 as the display out it worked flawlessly on GTA V.

This could basically mean freesync support is now possible over HDMI and on Maxwell cards that NVIDIA never bothered to add GSync compatible support, despite being fairly capable GPUs today.

I'm just trying to write here to check what would be the interest in seeing how it would work out since I think there is a fair share of use cases to pair an AMD dGPU with an NVIDIA card to get freesync.

Before this was only possible by having an AMD CPU with an integrated GPU.

What's up with all the really bad amazon reviews for UPSs?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 09:13 AM PST

I haven't owned a UPS in over 20 years but now I want to buy one just for my router and cable modem in case the power goes out. Literally every single amazon review for major brands like APC and TrippLite are filled with horror stories of these things catching fire. I'm well aware of the energy density and general risk of battery failure and fires while charging, but the sheer volume of reviews that cite fires and smoke is astounding.

Do you all think this is normal failure rate?

Maybe it's just rival companies buying shill reviews to throw shade at their competitors?

I've googled and read a few reviews and best-of's, but they all just point to the same models from the same brands with the bad reviews. Are home use battery backups just not a thing anymore?

Last month a bunch of new wireless network adapters by Intel got their Bluetooth 5.2 certification, this week the AX203 also got certified by the FCC. It looks like the AX203 will be a refresh of the Wi-Fi 6 AX200/AX201 adapters:

    Monitor Refresh Rate Comparison

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 02:12 AM PST

    Hello,

I want to buy a new monitor and right now I have the HP Z24nf G2.

I am seeing a lot about AOC C24G2U and how overall it's good but one of the cons is ghosting.

My HP monitor is 5ms and the AOC is supposed to be 1ms. Up until now I didn't even know what ghosting was. So will I be ok with the ghosting of AOC C24G2U or will I realize it because of the 165hz? (current monitor 75hz)
