MSI to support back to 9th gen Intel CPUs with Re-Size BAR

    Details are here...

    • Asus/Gigabyte/ASrock = going back to 10th gen, z490 currently. Though I'd assume via this move by MSI some will be pressured into expanding that compatibility.

    • early testing ( https://ascii.jp/elem/000/004/036/4036051/ )

On Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Resizable BAR improved the minimum and average frame rates by 12.8% and 14.2%, respectively. In Forza Horizon 4, we're looking at 20.3% higher minimum and 19.4% average frame rates at 1920 x 1080, and 17% better minimum and 15.9% average frame rates at 2560 x 1440.

A question about the design choices around NVME board placement.

    Posted: 13 Jan 2021 02:47 PM PST

I've noticed since I began using NVME hard drives that they tend to become very hot, especially when installed under the GPU. Why didn't they design them to insert sideways like ram for better all around cooling and easier install/swap? Wouldn't sideways take up less space than flush to the board? Did they choose placement based on where they need to be in relation to the PCI lanes?

I'm seeing AVX-512 but it's not clear which parts of that instruction set, particularly bfloat16.
