The price and availability for good GPUs nowadays is ridiculous Posted: 03 Jan 2021 01:16 AM PST Does anyone else think the GPU market is completely unsustainable? And I'm not just talking about 2020 with the whole pandemic worsening the situation. Even before that price inflation was out of control and stock was fairly low on cards thanks to stuff like cryptomining never really going away. It's so bad it's actually making me rethink my decision to upgrade my PC this year and consider a console instead. For example currently I have a 1660S in my system and want to upgrade to an RTX 30 card this year, preferably a 3080 but I know I'll never find one any time soon without paying $1000+. By the time RTX 30 cards finally get any sort of decent stock it might be late into 2021 and by then stuff like Super and Ti versions of cards will be released and RTX 40 series cards will be in the pipeline and well on their way. To summarize what I'm saying here it seems like we've hit a point where buying any new GPUs at or near launch is a pipedream and by the time they're actually available they're already outdated and less desirable to buy. The market seems like it's in a very weird/bad place in the last few years, obviously worsened by the pandemic situation this year, and I don't see it improving for the better any time soon without dramatic change. I present to you my first watercooled PC: The Hive Mind PC: White Rainbow Edition Posted: 02 Jan 2021 06:14 PM PST Last year (sounds pretty long ago - hehe) I decided it's time to upgrade from my previous PC (i5 4670K, GTX 780). My old PC did his job pretty well, just one broken RAM stick, the rest worked perfectly fine for 7 years. Of course I planned to get the new generation hardware if possible. Didn't want to go completely balls to the wall and get a RTX 3090 / Ryzen 9 5950X but the more rational version: RTX 3080 and Ryzen 9 5900X.So the quest for my dream PC started. For the longest time I wasn't really optimistic to be fortunate enough to get the sought after hardware. Button mashing every few minutes hoping any RTX 3080 card is in stock for a reasonable price - my personal limit was 1k for the graphics card. After a few days the optimism faded until there was one in stock and it even was the one I wanted the most: the Asus TUF RTX 3080 OC for 930€After being hyped about the succesful placed order the optimism faded again because there was a pretty long shipping delay. I was so relieved after I held the graphics card in my hands. Fastforward about 1 month and pretty much the same scenario happened with the CPU - but I managed to snag a Ryzen 9 5900X for 600€. Then there was the other problem I haven't that it would be a problem - availability of any of the other components. Technically I should have been able to get my PC ready and assembled in time for CP 2077 release, because the last items availability was 3rd of December for the case. But because of the pandemic and everything else I got my hands on the case on the 15th of December. So there I was building my PC after work over 3 days with the help of a good friend, who also had no experience with PC building, but we managed to get it to what it looks like today and I am pretty happy how my PC turned out. My PC-dream really came true. But enough of the boring story, you surely wanna see some pictures of the building process and my setup in general - so here you go! What would be the best gpu to pair with the i7 3770 Posted: 03 Jan 2021 06:08 AM PST Currently have an older build and want to know what gpu would be a good pair with the i7 3770 [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Jan 2021 09:08 AM PST SPECS: Case- Fractal Meshifiy C Issue: The radiator is in the front, with two intake fans, as it's a tight fit to put it up top. the top fan is exhaust as is the back. I ordered two more fans, for an additional intake on front and exhaust on top. I use MSI afterburner to control fan curve, and tried messing with the fan curves in BIOS but none of my problems came from having a hot CPU, it's purely the GPU. I also have XMB turned on so my ram runs at its actual 3200. The GPU is used, I bought it on r/hardwareswap but the guy said he had no problems with heat and it is still under warranty if it turns out that is the issue. I have only had teh build together for less than a week and have mostly been spending my time optimizing, setting up, cable management, etc. So it was kind of concerning when the temp kept going up during my stress tests. Would love to hear some thoughts/ tips/ recommendations on how to improve the temp of the GPU. I THINK I did most of the correct stuff to prepare a new build, but again; it's been a decade. Feel free to ask me further questions too! [link] [comments]
Been building for an hour and already frustrated. Posted: 03 Jan 2021 12:09 PM PST I can't get the side panels off the tower and I feel like an idiot, there's some screws that I think might be the way to get the panels but I can't get them off. They refuse to budge and I don't want to strip them. Just wanted to vent about this before diving back in and trying again. Edit: I'm an idiot and it was super simple. It's Finished! Ryzen 5600x + RX 5600 XT Posted: 03 Jan 2021 03:58 AM PST After pushing it off for years, I finally broke down and built a new PC from the ground up. Upgrading from a Core2 Quad Q8400 / R7 240 to a Ryzen 5600x / RX 5600 XT! Link to Completed Build on PCPartPicker All in all I'm extremely happy with how it all turned out, though now that it's done I feel like maybe I should have thrown some more lighting in. Maybe I'll add some fans or replace the RAM down the line. The Antec PSU is nice, compact, and modular - but the cable ends are stiff and messy which made some of the cable management tricky and less aesthetically pleasing. Don't think anyone makes replacement cables for it, so I will probably end up going with some extensions to clean it up a bit. (Would love suggestions/recommendations if anyone has) Seems I lucked out with finding a 5600x as well. It was out of stock most places in my country within a few days of me picking it up. Super quiet compared to the system I've been using, even with the stock cooler and fans that came in the 275r. List of possible upgrades I'll probably be doing down the line:- Add some extra case fans to increase airflow and keep things cool (+ add some lighting)- Cable extensions for aesthetics- Upgrade CPU cooler - still debating on air vs water cooled
Edit to clarify and add primary intended use will be for editing [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Jan 2021 07:55 AM PST Relevant parts:
Radiator as intake with 2 fans pulling air into the case, two fans on top of the motherboard as exhausts and one exhaust at the back. Problem: Built a new pc a couple of days ago. CPU seems to be running at high idle temps at around 50c (122f), usually above. During load I havent noticed the temps rising over 80c (176f) though. What I've done to try to fix the problem: I've removed the cooler, applied new thermal paste and reinstalled it tightly. I've checked that the cpu pump is working and that the fans are spinning. Is this normal or should I be concerned? [link] [comments]

Buying a package of component as gift, is it worth that much and can it be upgraded? Posted: 03 Jan 2021 07:41 AM PST Hello I'm buying my sister a pc, she is not a hardcore gamer but she occasionally play some 2d game and some not so demanding games, she does run some photo editing softwares from time to time. Since shipping to my country is very expensive and vat is extra for customs when order from outside, I'm thinking of buying locally if you can help me with these components that I found and whether it's up to date components and worth the money Or should I just pay extra 150-180$ish for shipping and buy stuff from newegg and amazon instead My budget is around 1000$-1100$ GPU : MSI GTX 1650 D6 AERO ITX V1 MOTHERBOARD : AMD ASROCK B550-HDV CPU : AMD Ryzen 5 3500X Desktop Processor 6 cores up to 4.1GHz 35MB Cache RAM : HYNIX 16GB 8×2 3200MHZ POWER SUPPLY: PS DEEP COOL PSU 500W 80 PLUS Bronze HARD DISK : SSD TEAMGROUP 1TB CX2 MONITOR :LG 22MK400H 22 inch 1ms TN Gaming Monitor 75HZ CASE : CASE OC STORM III The system is 1080$ with two years warranty with the monitor "90$ for the monitor" I barely know anything about PCs so any tips would be helpful any part I can replace with other competent for better performance for similar price? New RAM installed, PC wont boot Posted: 03 Jan 2021 07:46 AM PST I recently upgraded my RAM from Corsair Vengeance Ipx 3000mhz to Corsair Vengeance RGB pro 3600mhz (both 16gb). At first when i installed my pc wouldn't boot, then i took them out and reinserted just to make sure everything was in place and it booted, a little slow but i gave it time to boot up, then loaded a few games. I dropped from 30 up to even 60 fps in some games, so updated my bios and messed around with the xmp profiles but to no avail it remained the same. So after a few days of only playing CSGO and no reply from corsair customer support I decided to put in the old ram to see if it performed any better, it wouldn't boot. Swapped the old for the new again and the cpu fan lights up as well as the ram sticks, but i am left with a black screen. I am out of ideas so any help or advice would be appreciated! :) [link] [comments]
Deciding between a 3060 to and a 3070 Posted: 03 Jan 2021 10:54 AM PST Hey everyone, I was just wondering if it's more worth it to get a 3070 over a 3060ti. For reference, my power supply is 650 watt gold rated. Also planning on staying at 1080p for now but upgrading to 1440p in the next year or two. How many Gb’s of ram should I have on a graphics card? Posted: 03 Jan 2021 09:00 AM PST I currently have an old graphics card, it's an Radeon hd 5870 1gb, and I'm looking for an upgrade. I've been looking around and don't really understand what I should get. I just want a graphics card that can run most games because I can't even get to the point to turn graphics down in destiny 2. Is it possible to buy a new EVGA graphics card? ANY card??? Posted: 03 Jan 2021 03:02 AM PST I'm sick of the heartburn trying to find a 30 series graphics card and have decided to just use EVGA's step-up program automate the process, which will allow me to trade up whenever it's finally available without having to check all the time, even if I have to wait until July. There's just one problem. EVGA doesn't seem to sell new graphics cards. Anywhere. BestBuy, Amazon, NewEgg, Microcenter, EVGA.com. No 30 series, no 2080 super, no 2080, no 2070 super, no 2070, no 2060s, no 1080 ti, no 1080, no 1070 no 1660ti, NOTHING. Has it really come to this? I've got all my other parts burning a hole on my shelf. Is it basically impossible to buy a new graphics card from EVGA of ANY generation? Literally ANY card? Really!?!? Does anyone know how to buy one? It has to be new from an authorized seller. [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Jan 2021 12:45 PM PST I spent a lot a of time researching my new data analysis / gaming PC late last year. The Covid situation created circumstances where I could finally move more and more of my work to home office (which I prefer anyhow) and to support that I decided to create a system that gives me definite advantage doing much of my work from home. After a lot of research into looking what are the best CPUs currently for Excel and Power BI usage I finally went with the 5950X as the core of the build (thank you Hardware Unboxed for creating one of the few tests that actually test Excel performance for CPUs and for Jarrod's tech for doing the tests). Anyhow some build pictures are here: https://imgur.com/gallery/EPVc7nG The core of the build are these:
So I got the build ready during Christmas (I love building computers at that time of the year) and I enjoyed the rest of the holidays just tweaking the computer and gaming. When the new year started work called again and this weekend I have been working on doing data analysis for some customers. The end result is that the computer has already paid for itself with interest. Sure I could have done the same work with my old computer so it is not quite that straightforward, but it would have been slower and I might have drank a few more cups of coffee waiting for stuff ;-) When things work well, it is easier to motivate oneself to work also and it is also easier to stay in the flow of doing stuff. Interruptions (be they waiting or something else) always create situations where it can happen that progress stops altogether. I do most of my cursing and get most of my enjoyment from being right at the edge of things that I am capable of doing at all. Any improvements I get push that boundary just a bit further and frankly that can easily be the deciding factor if I have each particular job to do at all or if I do not have it. Anyhow, have a great new year everyone and enjoy your builds. I guess this is the time that the backlog of many late purchases from last year will be finally delivered and people get to building and upgrading their PCs. Do fun stuff with yours and perhaps combine the gaming with some other cool stuff also ;-) Finally, thank you all for all the knowledge you have shared on Reddit and in articles and in Youtube. All of that stuff has been very useful for me in getting up to speed again in this generation of hardware. [link] [comments]
Trouble choosing between two Cases Posted: 03 Jan 2021 06:42 AM PST The cases in question: PURE BASE 500DX - In White NEO AIR - In White Basically, I'm wondering if anyone has every used either of these cases and could provide some first hand knowledge? What do you think of my list so far? Posted: 03 Jan 2021 09:54 AM PST I'm thinking about entering this in for the giveaway in this subreddit! I don't have a name for it, unfortunately, and I'm not the keenest on building a PC myself. Any suggestions for upgrading? Any particular fits and matches that would make this more worth the while? Please let me know! [link] [comments]
Would you recommend an ergonomic chair over a gaming chair? Posted: 02 Jan 2021 11:17 PM PST Hey friends. I am currently having issues with a gaming chair. I have had it for over a year. It is a Secret Lab Omega chair. I recently have started having very bad back pain after starting to work from home and have been using it for school... of course, I browse the web and play games too. This leads to me being on my computer nearly all day when I am not taking breaks or at the gym. I have taken a rest the past 2 weeks due to the pain. However, I am considering getting a new chair. I saw Herman Miller and Steelcase were commonly recommended. Do you think these would help with my issue? Do you have any to recommend yourself? TLTR - having back issues w/ gaming chair after increased use, would it be worth looking into an ergonomic office chair and what do you recommend? Posted: 03 Jan 2021 10:49 AM PST I searched Corsair's website and it gave me this SKUthis sku on the page for the H110i GT to work with an AM4 socket, but it doesn't look like it would work. Is there one that I should be looking for in order to use it? I mean I've had this cooler forever so I could just switch to air cooled for this build, but it's been doing so great and I'd love to keep it. What gpu would be best for high fps 1440p gaming Posted: 03 Jan 2021 10:48 AM PST So the 2 gpus i have thought about are 6800xt or the 3080ti ( I hope it comes out but from be leaks it is very likely) so what would be best the 6800xt has 16gb of vram and rtx3080 has 20gb if we can take the leaks as official so would more vram be better or will it not be worth the increase in price and i am planning on having this build for many years probably for way to long Easier explanation 20gb vram better for 1440p gaming in the long run? or is 16 good for 4+ years (fucked up the title) [link] [comments]
Pc turns on, No signal on monitor Posted: 03 Jan 2021 12:00 PM PST Hi everyone! I apologise if this text is worded weirdly since english is not my first language :) I really hope somebody here can help me with this problem cause I'm honestly starting to loose hope. (I'm fairly new to building pcs so I apologise if something's unclear or doesn't make sense) My specs: ryzen 3 3200g, gtx 1650s, a320m-k mobo, 8gb eudar ram & a 550w bronze corsair psu I just built my first pc and when I turn it on the fans start spinning and everything seems like it's working correctly. However there isn't anything displayed on my monitor, only the words "No Signal". I've tried reinstalling the gpu, trying it out different monitor, removing and reinstalling the ram sticks, plugging my hdmi cable into the motherboard instead of the gpu, as well as trying to connect it with other cables but the monitor still didn't show anything but "No Signal". Edit: I forgot to mention this but the Mobo came with the bios update! I hope I'm not wasting anyone's time with this but I honestly don't know what to do anymore. :( [link] [comments] |
