Modern storage is plenty fast. It is the APIs that are bad. Posted: 26 Nov 2020 12:15 AM PST A very technical take on why we still benefit so little from advanced m.2 drives. Software APIs are significantly holding things back: [link] [comments]
23% increase in FPS in VR! Ryzen 3600x -> Ryzen 5600x Posted: 25 Nov 2020 01:56 PM PST For those unaware, ACC is notoriously hard to run in VR. Much harder than other racing titles. For reference, project cars and AMS2 run a consistent 90 fps no reprojection with high settings on a 3600x and a RTX 3070. Test Setup
Caveats FCAT VR was not working well for me. On the 3600x I was able to record 9+ runs that were around 90 seconds long (even though it was set to record 60 seconds). When I swapped in the 5600x it would record various lengths. Some 23 seconds, a lot around 30 seconds. Finally got one to run 52 seconds so that is the one I used. I truncated the 3600x logs to match the 52 seconds. I have no idea why the times are so off. I spent hours trying to figure that out. Did it with and without overclocks. No change. If you have any insight please let me know. I have an RTX 3080 coming this week and plan to do the same exercise.

Is there a website that provides information on upcoming big tech hardware releases? Posted: 25 Nov 2020 11:04 PM PST 2020 has been non stop with new tech hardware: nvidias new cards, amds new card, a new xbox, and a new playstation. I always like staying up to date and reading about this stuff early, especially the cutting edge stuff. I was wondering if anyone knows of a website that has information on what the next big tech hardware coming out is. Maybe a timeline showing when these new things are due to be dropped. Will there be possiblity of nVidia releasing an "RT 3030" or similar to GT 1030 soon? Posted: 25 Nov 2020 09:09 PM PST I named it 3030 just because tis the season of 3000 series and to line it up. And since there are rumors that 3060 Ti and 3050 is possible, what if this verion has aswell? I'm not hoping there will be but damn this would be a very nice entry card. What do you guys think? Why isn't storage media capacity advertised in GiB instead of GB? Posted: 25 Nov 2020 10:09 AM PST I think it's a bit misleading, at least for people who are not tech savy. [link] [comments]

Posted: 25 Nov 2020 06:23 PM PST Hey all, I just purchased this Samsung (MZ-V7E500BW) 970 EVO SSD 500GB from amazon and installed it onto my MSI MPG Z390 GAMING PLUS mobo . I now have 3 drives, the one mentioned before, a 1 tb HDD and my old one, a samsung 860 evo internal sata After struggling to set up the m.2 boot (looked around and saw bios was supposed to be in uefi mode not legacy but this caused non of my drives to be found as a boot option) i finally got my new m.2 nvme ssd as the boot drive and got issues resolved. When running a benchmark between the two i saw my speeds for my old sata ssd were significantly higher than nvme sorry if the following "chart" is hard to follow i couldnt post a picture. Am i missing something here I thought nvme speeds were supposed to blow sata out of the water. granted my OS is on the nvme but my old ssd was still faster even before switching OS 860 Evo R W in mb/s Seq 4548.30, 4577.05 3983.28, 3426.59 rnd 2205.10, 1483.94 584.48, 307.47 970 Evo m.2 NVME R W in mb/s Seq 3534.1, 2483.02 3562.59, 2487.53 rnd 1130.53, 1101.01 46.02, 131.89 [link] [comments] |
