Posted: 16 Nov 2020 04:37 AM PST So basically my PC would not turn on. Tried everything I could. Finally decided to take it to a repair shop. The guy said that my PSU had short circuted and also damaged my motherboard. He suggested that my MOBO was damaged beyond repair and suggested some other motherboard.(this one is cheaper than my original one) Today I got a call and he told me that he would like to buy back my motherboard and PSU since he needs the parts. He offered to give me a 10% discount. The problem is that my motherboard is a a fairly expensive one. So is he tricking me into buying a new one so he can keep the old one? The other red flag was when he contacted me and told me that my Windows had some corrupted files and he had to reinstall windows. Can a MOBO issue affect Windows? He's also telling me that all my data will be wiped and he is asking me for an extra charge to retain it. I know this might not be the subreddit for this. I really don't know where else to go. Please help Edit:OMG.I don't believe this is happening. Me and my cousin go to his shop. We had informed him about 30 minutes prior that I'm coming to see the parts. We go there now and ITS CLOSED! I called him immediately and he told me that he has a family emergency and is going to meet me later. I can't believe this. Is he talking it somewhere to extract the parts?......I seriously don't know what to do. Edit 2: Ok I called him back and threatened to take action of I found anything missing or damaged. He got a bit scared and told me he'd meet me soon. He even face timed me and he is in his home. He told me that my PCs in the store and is fine. I decided to give him until evening. If he doesn't return I might take some action [link] [comments]

Build Complete - Ready for the winter months! Posted: 15 Nov 2020 08:13 PM PST After haunting this subreddit and others since June, I finally got ahold of everything I wanted for my five year refresh. Thanks to everyone who posted on this subreddit with tips and info, as well as those I talked to in Discord as I nailed down all my options. I'm still at the mercy of Dell.com and their nefarious inventory management for getting my monitor. I'll be playing in 1440p eventually! All in all I'm in for somewhere right in the neighborhood of $2600. I did redeem points from work for the headphones, already had the keyboard, and mouse, and had 3 out of 4 hard drives already, so those were not counted in the build budget. Specs: CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5900X GPU: MSI Gaming X Trio RTX 3080 Mobo: Asrock B550 Extreme4 RAM: G.Skill 2x16GB Trident Neo Z 3600 CL16 CPU Heatsink - Noctua NH-D15S with a second 120mm Noctua fan Case: Cooler Master H500 ARGB Solid State Storage: Samsung 850 EVO 500GB (system drive), WD Blue 2TB (games) Data Storage: WD Green 2TB, WD Green 500GB (used to mirror most important data) Headphones: SteelSeries Arctis Pro Wireless Mouse: Logitech G700s Keyboard: Ducky One 2 in Skyline with MX Clear switches Monitor: Dell S2721DGF 27" IPS 1440p 165hz Completed Build: [link] [comments]
Posted: 16 Nov 2020 07:02 AM PST Edit: Corrected the Intel parts list! I plan to gift new PCs to my twin boys this Christmas and have been researching a few options. Since many in-demand CPUs are either out of stock or are selling at a heavily inflated price, I've put together two almost identical builds, one based on Intel, and the other AMD. Which of these is the winner, and what changes should I make? Remember that I am building two of them, so any price increase is going to be felt twice as hard. There will be no overclocking, and when the time comes for an upgrade, I plan to start over with completely new architecture, so I'm not concerned about incremental upgrades. I went with a more powerful PSU since that should last at least for the next system we build. They will also very likely start their gaming obsession with Minecraft, Roblox, some emulators, and maybe indie games (Stardew Valley, etc.), probably no AAA titles. They will also have a 1080p 60Hz monitor. AMD - PCPartPicker Part List

Posted: 16 Nov 2020 09:28 AM PST Watch out for these guys. I saw them on E-Bay, good prices on motherboards, went to they're store and bought one. A few days later I get an e-mail with a tracking number. The number was no good. Nothing found. I tried to contact thee about it, and no reply to any email. after 6 or 7 days, no reply, no motherboard, and then, the website shutdown, and put this message up saying " friend we have said goodbye to everyone, there is no reason to come here". I went straight to PayPal and filed a claim. Told Paypal about the circumstances, and they accelerated it. About a week later, here comes an e-mail with another tracking number, this time good. PayPal sent an e-mail the same time telling me they had contacted SPCP and was still making they're decision. Fortunately, I used PayPal to pay them, or I might have never heard from them again. Now, the website is back up. Like I said, watch out for these guys. I don't trust them. [link] [comments]
Installing a second M.2 NVME SSD to increase storage, is this as simple as plug and play? Posted: 16 Nov 2020 11:00 AM PST Hello, So basically as the title says I am looking to upgrade my PC and optimize in a few places I foolishly cut corners on in March. I currently have a Samsung Evo 970 500GB M.2 Nvme SSD with my OS on it, and all my games. Then I have a 1TB Hard Drive that I put miscellaneous things on that don't require high load speeds. Little did I realize how quickly that 500GB SSD would fill up with games now adays, and I'm not wanting to use a HDD for those. Can I just pop a second Samsung Evo 970 1TB M.2 stick in my second slot and be good to go? Motherboard is an Aorus X570 Elite, if that matters at all. Thanks! Trying to get a 3080 these past couple of months has been extremely demotivating Posted: 16 Nov 2020 10:28 AM PST Seriously for the past 60 days the 3080 has been out and I have not been able to once get to a point where I can even get a card in my cart. Every site sells out in a split second, there's 0 protection against bots, Scalpers are charging ludicrous amounts for them on Ebay, and of course every influencer/streamer has one of these already Like I don't understand how these card manufactures aren't pumping these out like hotcakes. There's an audience out there that wants to buy your product, they sell out instantly, but you release like, what, a dozen every couple weeks at most [link] [comments]

Gaming over HDMI via Ethernet? Posted: 16 Nov 2020 11:17 AM PST Hey all, not sure if this is the exact place to post this, so of it's not let me know. I moved into a house and my setup for games is very different from what it used to be. On the second floor of my house I have an office with my gaming PC in it. On the main level there's my entertainment center with my TV. Now it's been great so far but I miss being able to play PC games on my TV with the wife. I have no problem fishing an ethernet cable through the house to get wired up. Wireless just won't do for games. I have a Steam Link, but that thing isn't ideal. It doesn't play well with all non steam games in my experience, it has too much latency and can even have trouble with regular steam games. I can't use an Nvidia shield because I have an AMD card. I've heard of using HDMI extenders over a Cat6 cable and that sounds great, but I wouldn't have inputs going to the PC that way. I guess my question is, how would you fix this issue? Posted: 16 Nov 2020 05:01 AM PST Before you murder me, I was trying to grab two sticks of 8GB and didn't realize that the shop didn't sell 2x8 2400 but rather only sold 1x8 2400 so when I switched to two sticks it automatically switched me to 3200 [link] [comments]
(Ryzen) Is 3700X worth the price over a 2700X ? Posted: 16 Nov 2020 01:33 AM PST Hello ! I am looking to upgrade my CPU and I am wondering if the difference between the 2700X/3700X is worth the extra 120€ to invest. (I'm from EU.) Seeing the frequency, number of cores/thread etc both have, they look very similar. Would having a 3700X make a real difference over a 2700X ? I was also wondering if the 3600XT would suit my needs since it seems to be the inbetween of these two. I'm mostly using my PC for work : graphic design/photoshop painting and a bit of 3D modeling (C4D). Also a few games but nothing too fancy My current specs are : Ryzen 5 1400 Current prices for the CPUs : Ryzen 7 2700X : 205€ Which would you recommend for me ? Thanks for the help ! I am trying to part a PC together and have a few questions Posted: 16 Nov 2020 01:51 PM PST I am trying to part a PC together for around $550 USD. I am wondering if anyone knows if the motherboard I picked has WiFi or would need a WiFi adapter. I am also not sure how many fans I should be adding to the build I put together. I think that the case only comes with the 1 back fan. If anyone has advice on improvements that would be great. Here is what I have so far. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Kd6z68 [link] [comments]
AMD build! But I need a beige case!!!! Posted: 16 Nov 2020 11:59 AM PST Okay, so I was an AMD fanboy back when beige was still a thing. Albeit it was much less of a thing as black dells were taking over the landscape. Right now i have a white Rosewill case that I like. But it just isn't what I'm in love with. I love the April fools Corsair Obsidian 900D and I am dying to find a modern beige case for my noctua fans! My rig right now is an i7 6700K with crossfire AMD480s that I built in 2016. I plan on gifting this pc to my dad who is also a gamer, and I'm looking to go for the AMD 5900X, as well as the 6800 XT, But I'll figure everything out when these things are actually released. What I'm mostly looking for is if anyone knows of a modern beige case lol. Sure I can find and mod an early 90s case. But I really don't feel like dremeling anything. And I'd like it to just kind of work. Thanks! [link] [comments]
What is a good gpu for ryzen 5 3600x Posted: 16 Nov 2020 01:26 PM PST
Posted: 16 Nov 2020 12:59 PM PST I managed to get a bundled CPU and MOBO, 5950X and ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING(WI-FI). It wasn't the motherboard I was eyeing up but seems like it would do the job. I kind of wanted a usb-c on the front but read you can't with this mobo? Anyway my main qestion is... is it worth just getting another motherboard to make the most of my new build? - I'd look at selling this one. I have bought the 3080 (its a different model but same price) Upgrading from an 7-8year old system with a 4770k and 1070 DDR3 ram.. it's old and im excited. I'm primarily a coder but also do 3D work (for games and arch using c4d, houdini and 3dmax mostly gpu based renderers) including photogrammetry so I may upgrade from a 3080 to a 3090 for the vram if I end up doing more of that kind of work which is why I went with 850w power supply. I also game, primarily FPS but jump across genres. Not planning on overclocking straight away but maybe one day nearer to end of life if the performance increase is worth it. I want to keep 64gb ram minimum. My monitor will be a g9 odyssey. I also cannot choose a case! I have a corsair-carbide which I still really like to be honest. Something fairly easy to build in for the parts I have would be good. It's been 7-8 years since my last build i've been wanting to do a new one since I saw the 3950x, help me finalise this one please! Budget is about £3000 (flexible) not including the monitor. Didn't want to just go with any mobo since I'm spending so much and have some budget left. Any recommendations for any parts welcomed.

Confusion regarding the selection of RAM for the new Ryzen 5000 series Posted: 16 Nov 2020 03:10 PM PST Hey guys, After saving up for almost two years, I am planning to build my own desktop for the first time in the upcoming months. I will mainly use it for gaming and some occasional Machine Learning as it is my profession. I have been doing my research about the entire pc-building process for months now and in the last few days, I bumped into a problem that I can not fully understand, namely the combination of a CPU and a motherboard with a respective RAM. So, the setting is:
After the selection, everything seemed fine at first and as the last step I wanted to check the respective QVL of each product before fully committing and that's where I encountered the problem:
Long story short, I feel quite confused and I do not know how to proceed. I have seen people suggesting the RAM that I wanted to buy for the Ryzen 5000 series but it is not listed on the QVL of any pages. I have seen some people saying "Don't go out of the QVL" and some people "QVL is not that important". Is there something I am overlooking or misunderstanding? As it is going to be the first major thing I will buy for myself after two years and it is my first experience building a desktop, I am terrified of making a mistake which can have an effect on up to 3 different parts. As a last note, even though it is my first time writing here, I have been following this subreddit for a while now and it has been extremely helpful when I was doing my research. So many thanks to all of you :) [link] [comments]

Maximum amount of drives on an Corsair CX650 power supply Posted: 16 Nov 2020 06:55 AM PST Hi all. I was wondering if you could help me figure out how many SATA drives I could connect to my CX650 powersupply without running into any issues. It has a total of 3 SATA/Perpheral connectors on the PSU and cables that would allow me to connect 6 SATA and 4 Molex to these connectors. The cables that came with the powersupply only has a max of 6 SATA males (3 per cable). Is it safe to use SATA splitters? If so, how many can I connect to each of the SATA/Perpherals connectors on the powersupply? If not, is it possible to buy powercables with more SATA males on each cable? I was hoping to connect at least 2 SSDs and 11 HDDs using SATA splitters if needed. [link] [comments]

Pro tip: ALWAYS check for the recovery options of your motherboard. Posted: 16 Nov 2020 12:43 PM PST I built my first PC in 2018 and am now having issues POSTing and random crashes. My mobo (Asus Prime X470 Pro) is overall a great board for the price I got it for ($135 w/tax) but it doesn't have a POST code LED or the two-digit display. If you're buying a computer that you plan on having for a while, do the research and spend the extra dollars for a board with LEDs or the little display. It'll make troubleshooting a THOUSAND times less stressful and easier because you'll at least know something.
