Posted: 31 Oct 2020 10:12 PM PDT Hello gamers, this is Carmelo (sophomore in high school), and I'm going to tell you guys how I was able to get my first gaming PC at age 15. My friend Michael and I were into computers since we were in middle school and we always talked about getting one. In the middle of the 9th grade year (January, 2020) we finally had enough of not having a computer so we started selling candy bars to earn one. On our first day we were outside of Sam's club selling candy bars about 1.5 hours in my friend Michael left because he had given up on the idea. Michael was a very lazy guy who wanted things, but never liked putting the effort into to doing it. Me however, was fixated on getting that computer I wanted so bad. 2 hours after Michael left, I had officially sold my first box of candy bars ($50 plus some tips they gave me). This was nowhere near enough money to get a PC, so I had to take $30 dollars out the $50 to get a new box of chocolate. With this method, I could make $20 profit each box that I sold. The goal was $500. After about 3 months of walking around my city selling chocolate. Constantly getting kicked out of places. Sitting in 1 spot for 5+ hours, I had sold over 12 boxes of chocolate and made just a little over $600. I know 3 months is a long time but keep in mind Covid-19 made it harder, I just never gave up no matter what. After about 2.5 weeks I had a full blown pc. I was so excited. I felt bad for my friend Michael, so I let him play on it sometime. Posted: 01 Nov 2020 12:12 PM PST Hi guys, been looking for a really high spec 1440p monitor with the best colour panel and Hz with G-Sync etc but I'm pretty out of the loop with 1440p monitors. I'm looking to get a RTX 3080 or 3080ti if they ever come out with one that is lol... My dad got a Samsung G9 5120x1440 240hz QLED and I love the look of the panel but it's really buggy atm from what I've seen and I play games like league of legends etc and apparently it doesn't run properly on that Aspect ratio. | H510 Elite - Case noise due to fans Posted: 01 Nov 2020 10:10 AM PST Hey guys. I have a few questions regarding case noise in a NZXT H510 Elite case. I have the following fan and cooler setup:
I previously had the Kraken M22 installed at the back of my case, but for aesthetic purposes i decided to move the liquid cooler to the front of the case. Here comes the frustrating part: Since re-installing the Kraken M22, it sounds like the case makes more noise than it did before. The thing is tho
The case made 64-66db noise after reinstalling. I then tweaked some setting to bring fan speed to 20% and now it's sitting at 60db, but still producing a noticeable sound Is this normal? How much sound is you guys' setup (preferably this specific case) producing? Interesting to note: if i turn off the fans at the back and top, case noise stays steady at 60db. I'm building myself a low-mid budget pc (around 800-900 euros) to play current games at 60 fps+ 1080p resolution. I've been gathering parts for a while now and the only ones missing are the major pieces (GPU, CPU, MOBO) and this is the list of what I already have: Case - NZXT H510 Black [Gift] ; Total investment until now: 310 Euros (500 left, give or take) I'm going to pull the trigger on my last 3 parts on black friday and I'd like you guys to give me your advice since I'm not sure if what I want to get is spot on or not. Please remember that I already bought the parts I mentioned before and my final total budget is limited (800-900 euros). GPU > I was thinking on going for the Gigabyte 1660 Super OC model since I can get it for 250 euros from where I'm from and it looks like the best fit for my budget. An RTX 2060 6gb would be sweet but it's 310-330 here... If I can snatch one for 250 during black friday, that's what I'll get. Not really sure if that's realistic or not... CPU > I'll go with the Ryzen 3600. It simply seems like the best bang for the buck choice. I already have the fast ram and it will be a great all-around since I wanna game a lot and use some heavy load programs from time to time. I really don't want to invest on a cooler since I wont overclock it. I'll be fine, right? I was a bit disappointed that the 5600 non X wasn't announced since it will probably be released at 185-220 euros which is what I'm down to invest on a CPU but if I keep waiting for new releases, that's goning be a never ending cycle. The MOBO... > I don't want to cheap out on it for future proofing reasons. I want to be sure that down the road i'll be able to put in a 5000 series or 6000 series on it with no problem. Having enough ports and pci 4.0 seems like a great idea also (I know I won't make use of it but it's just something nice to already have). I think that the ATX Gigabyte B550 Aorus will be a great fit, both in specs and ascetics. I can get it for 145 euros. I'll have to admit that I'm a little confused here, the MSI MPG B550 Gaming Plus also seems like a great choice and the prices are really close.... That's it! I know that I could've cutted out on some things like the PSU or the case and bought a better GPU or something along those lines but in my opinion, since I won't be upgrading for a long time, I wanted to have something that felt balanced where nothing evidently "sucked". Posted: 01 Nov 2020 12:03 PM PST Hello, I'm having a hard time deciding if i should go for the 1660 Super or the 1070 for Machine Learning, Video rendering, 3D etc. The 1070 has much more Cuda cores than the 1660 Super (1920 vs 1408 Cuda cores) while the 1660 Super has GDDR6 vs the 1070 having GDDR5. 1660 super is slightly expensive in my area than the 1070. I cant find the Crucial 16gb anywhere (amazon keeps delaying when it could be delivered) and 100€ for the Ripjaws 16gb dont seem worth it when you can get twice for 50€ more. Regarding PSU: I get this one from my Mom cause she gets my "old" PC and I am deciding between 650w(90€) or 750w(110€) to be more futureproof. Regarding CPU: I am thinking of buying the Ryzen5-3600 now, cause the new Ryzen 5- 5600x is probably out of my budget and then when everyone moves to AM5 DDR5, I maybe can get one of the 5000series for less. :) My Budget was 1300€ and without buying the PSU I am nearly exactly at that price. (PartPicker doesnt show all Shops for germany) Regarding Case: I really liked the PureBase 500dx but I need at least 2 USB-A on top so its out of contention. Posted: 31 Oct 2020 04:23 PM PDT So for some reason, building a pc on your motherboard box used to be the thing everyone recommended you do prior to actually putting the system inside your PC to make sure everything is functional prior to throwing it inside your case. Seems no one is recommending this or doing this anymore. Also, starting the build outside might make the whole process easier. Trust me, sounds so dumb when you're a new builder to just build on top of a motherboard box but sometimes things happen and it's better to make sure before hand. It can also help you figure out where problems are, if you are that bare bones, and everything is functional, that means something you're adding us affecting your PC. My friend got a Ryzen 7 3700x, RTX 2060, 16gb ddr4 ram, and an nvme SSD. He is getting around 300 fps in Sea of Thieves and 400 fps in Minecraft on 32 chunks while I get around 70 on the same graphical settings in Sea of Thieves, and ~60 on 32 chunks. Any insight as to why there is such a vast difference? He also had his professionally built while I, on a much tighter budget, installed my own motherboard and all its components.
