Posted: 05 Oct 2020 03:08 PM PDT So I've known about all the other devices built around the IBM CELL CPU, e.g. the IBM QS20/21/22 blades built around the first and second version of the CELL, and the several different PCIe-based CELLs. But I never knew about this Zego BCU-100: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zego And here's a picture of the layout (imgur backup). So this appears to be a PS3 with more memory and an extra chip for the IO. But a PS3 that's entirely unlocked and presumably comes with drivers for linux. This is fascinating because in recent years there has been development towards a user created RSX linux driver. But if there was a Sony one out there that would be great. I'm also curious how those servers work in general. Whether the PS3 firmware could be ran directly on them, and if they hold any other secrets to the system. The wiki for the system also says there was an addon card designed to use the system as a workstation instead of a server. I assume this server made it to release, has anyone ever seen one or does anyone have anymore details? [link] [comments] |
