Finally got my hands on a 3080. New rig up and running. Posted: 07 Oct 2020 03:52 AM PDT I'm the kind of guy who builds a new rig every 4-5 years, never partially upgrading. So without further ado here's what hopefully will last me another 5+. Cpu: Intel 10900K (SP 81) Mobo: Asus Maximus Apex XII GPU: Asus tuf 3080 OS drive: 970 Evo Plus nvme 500GB PSU: Seasonic 750W Prime Ultra Plat Sound card: Creative Sound Blaster AE-7 Cpu cooler: Arctic Liquid Freezer II 360 Fans: x7 Arctic Bionix P120 pwm Ram:G.Skill Trident z RGB 2x16GB B-dies Case: Lian Li o11 Dynamic XL (surprisingly) I still need to get a riser cable for my sound card as the pcie1x slot is completely covered by the monstrosity the 3080tuf is. For now the gpu is running at 8x. After I finish setting up everything I'll try some manual ram OCing for the first time :D And a lil bit of CPU OCing. I'm still waiting for the LG 48cx OLED to be in stock so I can finally move on from the TN panel. The Asus PG278q has been a great monitor but it's starting to get old. Has definitely served me well since 2014 though. Old rig sold to my best friend but told him he can pay me whenever. Mostly likely he will forget but oh well :) edit: Holy shit... Thanks for the upvotes, awards and your interest in my build! So many comments, I will do my best to answer. Edit: Some more information that I saw some of you asking 1) Got the gpu from a Greek retailer. I live in Greece. 2) Paid about 3000 euros for the build. 3) Fan configuration is top-bottom: intake, back-side:exhaust Why is it the best? Well I watched this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sX8S_hzW1uc 4) No this is not my only drive lol https://imgur.com/a/vm8ZXQd 5) Haven't Oc'ed yet. 6) Yeah a 750W psu is enough as long as you go with a good quality one and don't cheat out. My 3090 FE, 10900k, LC CX 48” build album! Posted: 07 Oct 2020 12:24 PM PDT https://imgur.com/gallery/JfUGSZp Finished it on Monday, and oh boy it's a dream. Pc part picker list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/FpXyp2 Using it for some rendering in Blender and also gaming and hopefully Vive Index soon. Doom Eternal at 4K/120hz with HDR literally broke my brain on this OLED. I feel like this is bleeding edge stuff finally. Much love to the buildapc community as always. Need help with nephews PC. Getting 5fps on roblox? Posted: 07 Oct 2020 07:11 AM PDT My nephews grandad recently built him his first PC for his 10th birthday. When I went to visit he showed me that games were unplayable so I'm sure he's missing something I just don't know what as I'm not too knowledgable about PCs. This is the list of components his mum sent me: Motherboard: Asus b450 am4 CPU: Ryzen 3 3200G Ram: Corsair LPX DDR4 2x4gb SSD: Crucial 500gb PSU: EVGA 500W Case: Coolermaster masterbox K500L Graphics card: None I also noticed that he was running Ubuntu and then running Windows through something called Oracle VM virtualbox. And when he starts it up the home screens look old like the ones I was using in school 15 years ago. I'm assuming I either need to get him a graphics card or install Windows directly? Or both? Any help would be greatly appreciated. [link] [comments]

Basically, if your board has the above BIOS from factory and you have done NO bios update, it is zen 3/Ryzen 5000 ready. To find your bios simply press the delete key when you see the MSI logo on startup. It should be in the upper right hand corner. At least it is on my B450 Gaming Pro Carbon AC There has been some conflicting information about whether recent mobos are shipping with a factory updated BIOS for Zen 3. I have found some claims on random forums that people are getting them straight from factory, no bios update needed, in that last 3 weeks. Other articles say they the bios is not here yet. I am interested to know if anyone who has purchased an MSI motherboard from the above list in the last couple weeks, has built their PC and did not update the BIOS. Did your motherboard ship with one of these beta BIOS? Or are the randos full of it. If yes or no, how long ago did you buy your board. IE yes, received the board last week, built my pc over the weekend, or no, bought my board 3 weeks ago? [link] [comments]

Will my PSU cable be okay for a RTX 3080? Posted: 07 Oct 2020 12:04 PM PDT So the RTX 3080 ships with a dual 8 pin to 12 pin adapter, but the only cable i have with my PSU is a daisy-chained dual 8 pin, would it be okay to run all the power through this cable? The PSU is a corsair CS750M. [link] [comments]
Follow-up on the post about dead gpu and a fly that probably had nothing to do with it Posted: 07 Oct 2020 06:54 AM PDT Original post: https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/j67gub/my_pc_just_shut_down_and_i_smell_burning/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share Im 99% sure that my gpu is now dead. Since i had a weird issue with my previous gpu that made one fan spin crazy fast Im starting to think that maybe my psu is a silent killer. Im taking my gpu to warranty center tomorrow and i should get it back very soon since its only 4 days old. Im not sure If i should take my Seasonic Focus plus gold 550w psu there bc the rma proccess on it is probably going to be longer. Can a reputable psu actually do that or did i just get unlucky with my gpus? I would gladly take some advice. [link] [comments]
Posted: 07 Oct 2020 11:49 AM PDT Hello everyone, I have a AOC GF2460PF and my computer is the OMEN 15-dc0003np (it has a 1050ti) The computer only has an HDMI port (2.0) so it should support 144hz. I know the monitor doesn't support 144hz through HDMI so I bought a HDMI - DVI cable (with all the pins) but I can't get it to use 144hz Does anyone know how can I fix this? Is it worth upgrading to a 3080 from a 2080ti for $400? Posted: 07 Oct 2020 11:44 AM PDT Have a friend that wants to buy my 2080ti off of me once I get my hands on a 3080. He's paying $400, so a 3080 for me would be about $400 after I deduct how much he's paying me for my 2080ti from the 3080 price. I'm just wondering if its worth it to upgrade for $400? The gains are about 20-30 fps in some games but I'm not sure if 20-30 fps is worth $400, especially when my strix has been performing fine. [link] [comments]
Should I run all sticks of RAM (96gbs) @ 2133mhz or 64gb Pair at XMP 3200? Posted: 07 Oct 2020 11:16 AM PDT New beast build (3900x, RTX 3080, B550) and I can't post after enabling XMP with my G.Skill Trident kits. They are two separate kits that both have the 3200 speed but on is a 32gb kit about 2 years old and the other a 64gb kit that is brand new. I assuming it's because of the mismatch (I had a different mismatch in my old rig that ran fine on Intel). Everything runs fine without XMP. So should I have more RAM or less speedy RAM? I play games but also a professional video/photo editor. [link] [comments]
M.2 SSD Upgrade -- Recommendations for my motherboard? Posted: 07 Oct 2020 12:14 PM PDT I posted earlier, but did some research to make an earlier post more specific. I want to upgrade to a 1TB M.2 SSD. My motherboard is a GIGABYTE GA-B250M-DS3H. The M.2 connector has the following specs: Socket 3, M key, type 2242/2260/2280 SATA and PCIe x4/x2 SSD support. I don't think the board supports NVMe, so I don't want to buy more than the board is capable of. For example, Crucial advertises high performance on NVMe SSDs, but it probably doesn't apply to straight PCIe slots. I'd like to try to get the most performance possible out of the SSD as my board permits. Would love some advice! [link] [comments]
Posted: 07 Oct 2020 02:59 PM PDT Would this cooler work for my PC case because for my build I got a dark rock pro 4 Which proved to be too big for my case can I switch it out for this? https://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-MasterLiquid-Chamber-MLA-D24M-A18PC-R1/dp/B07CRGC899 also here's my build https://pcpartpicker.com/list/s4rMnL [link] [comments]
Pc is freezing and now won’t display on my monitor, need help. Posted: 07 Oct 2020 01:13 PM PDT Pc freezing, need help Hi all, I built my computer around 2/3 years ago and it's worked perfectly fine ever since yesterday. Yesterday I got home from a week long vacation and turned on my computer for the first time in a week, it worked for around 30 minutes until it froze. I restarted the computer and the monitor didn't display anything so I restarted it again and it turned on for my monitor. Didn't think much of it until it happened again this morning, I turned on computer to do some school work and after about 30 minutes again it froze. I shut it off and restarted it but again it didn't display on my monitor, so I restarted it about 4 times and nothing on the monitor. Went to the internet and did some self troubleshooting. Took out my ram and gpu, cleaned out my pc, got rid of some dust and tried once more, but still no display on my monitor. I tried plugging different HDMI cords in to see if HDMI cord was issue, still nothing, plugged the HDMI into the motherboard instead of GPU and still nothing, then realized that the ports on the computer weren't working, mouse wasn't glowing, phone wasn't charging, keyboard wasn't glowing etc. I also noticed that my gpu fan was running and was louder than It was before. I believe that the motherboard is the issue but I'm not positive, I can't access bios or do a diagnostic with no display. So let me do a TLDR. Any advice for more troubleshooting is welcome. TLDR: went on vacation for a week, came home to my computer freezing and eventually not displaying on my monitor, tried to troubleshoot via internet forum advice and still nothing, I need some help and advice. Posted: 07 Oct 2020 01:04 PM PDT My i7-6700K is annoying me a bit. I'd like to upgrade to the next generation of AMD chips, but I don't want my path to upgrade CPUs years after to be blocked completely like it is on this platform. Is there any idea about how many generations of CPU's after I would be able to upgrade to? [link] [comments]
Different rear PCI area between two P400A's? Posted: 07 Oct 2020 11:49 AM PDT Long story short, ordered phantek p400a from Amazon. Supposed to be new, thing was clearly used, so ordered replacement. Odd thing is I just noticed the two have different backs, in the sense that the new one has this extra plate at the PCI covers, the original does not. This is going to be my first build so I'm not sure if this thing serves a purpose? Why would this be here on one, when the other doesn't even have holes drilled for the plate? Anyone know what the scoop is? (pics are of plate off, plate on vs. No plate PC) https://i.imgur.com/A98fqZ0.jpg [link] [comments]
Power outage during a bios update. Posted: 06 Oct 2020 09:29 PM PDT I was updating my bios and the power went out for a couple of minutes, after it came back i turn on my pc and its stock on this https://imgur.com/mCMXHc9. So how screw am I? Edit - Well thanks for all your suggestions, it looks like my only solution is to get a CH341A Programmer as suggested by u/Goghor. [link] [comments]
8x2 DDR4-3600 16-19-19-39 good ram to pair with ryzen? Posted: 07 Oct 2020 12:56 PM PDT Basically above. Also, I am considering getting 32 gigs. If the main thing I do is game with some work stuff on the side, MS Excel etc., Would I even benefit going for 32 gigs? [link] [comments]
