Branch prediction at the fetch level? Posted: 03 Aug 2020 12:42 PM PDT Hey guys, There is something I struggle with regarding branch prediction. If the two first stages of a pipeline are fetch and decode, to be able to know whether an instruction was a branch or not we have to wait for the second stage (decode). So I'm a bit puzzled about how a CPU handle such cases? Is the fetch stage going to wait for the result of the decode stage? ... [link] [comments] |
