    • Is this RAM compatible with my motherboard?
    • I'm thinking of getting a GTX 1070. Which one should I get?
    • I'm on a very tight budget and I'm looking for a case < $50

    Starting a PC building business

    Posted: 27 Jul 2020 06:28 AM PDT

I'm thinking of starting a small PC building/repairing business to generate a slight income next to my studies. My idea is just ordering the parts for a customer/having them bring parts for me, assembling it for them, installing the OS and drivers, etc. and charging them for the work, and advertising this in my towns facebook group.

I have just a few questions,

    a) do you think it could work/be worth it?

    b) how much should I charge for it? Afaik, there isn't a similar business near my area.

I apologize for bad formatting and english.

EDIT: Thank you all for the replies, this got way more attention than I thought it would. I haven't had the time to read through half the comments, but I've quickly realized that I'll need to think about the customer support/warranty.

    My pc!!!!^

I've finally managed to build my very first pc. I've upgraded my old prebuilt pc into an entirely new unit besides 2 old case fans and my storage systems. I'm actually really proud of myself that I managed to save up to do this, I've wanted to for so long

    My specs •lian li o11 dynamic case •Ryzen 9 3900x •MSI 2070 super •16gb 3000mhz ddr4 ram •ROG b450-f mobo •coolermaster 212 air cooler •700w PSU

If you guys have any feedback good or bad, I'd honestly love them. I want to still better this bad boi. I'm thinking of removing the rgb case fans and giving them to my SO and install hidden rgb light strips and have it "breathe". Plus I've essentially have my old parts to build my old pc back to give to my SO.

For those who are wondering what fans. > https://www.amazon.com/dp/B088FC6S8W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_5sWhFbE4Z2CJN

My first time building a PC, for streaming and gaming. Any thoughts on this build?

    Posted: 27 Jul 2020 05:06 AM PDT

This is my first time putting together a PC build so any thoughts or advice is welcome. I based this build around the Ryzen 7 3700X which sounds reliable for what I want. Would this be able to handle streaming and gaming at the same time? Is it overkill for gaming at medium settings? Lately I've only been streaming console games but I want to branch out to PC gaming in the future. Thanks for any advice.

Buy a high-end RTX card or wait until 3000 series release?

    Posted: 27 Jul 2020 06:06 AM PDT

Currently, I have an old GTX 970, and it is quite a problem since I must use a 4K TV as monitor and the PC is mostly dedicated to gaming. I'm starting to lower games' resolution, but 1080p on 40' TV is quite bad; since in a few days I will have the possibility to choose something to buy as a reward for my master degree, I'm thinking to upgrade my graphic card buying an RTX 2080 Super (the TI is still too expensive, ~1200€).

But I also have a doubt about buying a new video card right now, since that Nvidia could announce the new 3000 series.

So, what do you think? Should I buy or wait? I already postponed this upgraded two times, so I wouldn't like to wait too much again.

    Suitable chair

    Posted: 27 Jul 2020 12:59 PM PDT

    Greetings,

I am looking for advice. I need to buy a new chair and my budget is around 200 Euro. I normally use the chair 8+ hours a day and my back usually hurts after 5-6h ... So I need to find something comfortable... Would you recommend me anything? I also have two candidates:

    https://cougargaming.com/products/chairs/armor/ (cougar armor)

    https://www.ikea.com/ca/en/p/jaervfjaellet-office-chair-gunnared-dark-gray-60363597/

Do you have experience with these chairs? As I said, It needs to be comfortable and I need to be able to use it 8h a day at least without a problem. All suggestions are welcome :).

    Thank you in advance

Week long PSU problem solved, kinda.

    Posted: 27 Jul 2020 01:29 PM PDT

My younger brother's pc, 8 yr old hand me down, started shutting off shortly after being powered on. Figured it was the power supply. So I ordered a new one, only to find out it wasn't working. I had all the cables connected and still nothing, I quintuple checked everything. I read that you can find out if it's the power supply by connecting the cpu 2+2 pin connector and 24 pin connector from a different psu to the nonfunctioning pc. I tried this and the pc actually powered on for the first time in a week. I've refund the new psu and getting another one. I'm so happy it was only the psu that wasn't working! Thanks to everyone here, as the method I used to solve the problem was from this sub.

    First PC Build

    Posted: 27 Jul 2020 01:10 PM PDT

Hey guys, I know it's my first time posting here. However, I wanted to share with you my first build. The picture was before I installed the last fan. Building the PC was really fun and for those on the fence of building a PC I would say do it. You learn a lot. Being nervous is fine haha 😂 everyone reacts this way... Especially when we turn on the new build for the first time. My biggest mistake was not plugging my hdmi to my graphics card xD. I didn't have integrated graphics with the Mobo it scared me haha. So, I took my PC apart and tried to troubleshoot when I didn't need to... Wish you guys the best!

    $1000 Gaming PC

    Posted: 26 Jul 2020 09:54 PM PDT

    Hello everyone,

I'm building a pc and with a lot of your help managed to put this list together for a modern gaming PC around $1000.

    https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Qrjm9G

Is there something missing here (other than OS and peripherals)? Or maybe any incompatibility or maybe even something that would be smart to replace. My purpose is to build a pc that is futureproof and upgradable if a singular part becomes outdated.

Also, Im going to use this pc for college and gaming on modern games that my current pc can't run. Thanks.

Music Production PC build, thoughts? (Budget £850-£950)

    Posted: 27 Jul 2020 12:18 PM PDT

Hi there everyone, first time poster , been looking to invest in a PC for intermediate music production for quite a while now, and have built one on PC Specialist (i'm not very PC-savvy so i'd get it pre-built just for less hassle)

I use FL Studio, and would also use it for streaming DJ Sets every now and again, my decks would be hooked up to a separate laptop it's just the streaming i'd need as my Laptop is trying to stream whilst using the software at the moment. In terms of production I'm roughly intermediate, so I don't need something stacked with power but will go over budget if it's worthwhile

This is my current build after some lengthy research and scrolling through other comments and threads. I'm just wondering if there's anything else I'll need/desire to make sure it works without any major issues or limitations for a fair whack of time? And if there's anything that's maybe overkill on there at the moment.

The goal is $1000, his absolute max is $1100

    Anything you would switch out?

Newly built PC won't show anything on screen; what's the safest way to shut it off for the moment?

    Posted: 27 Jul 2020 01:53 PM PDT

    Troubleshooting Help:

At the moment built this build: CPU: AMD Ryzen 3600 Motherboard: MSI B550M Mortar WIFI. GPU: Sapphire Pulse 5600XT PSU: Corsair, TX650M Case: be quiet! Pure Base 500dx CPU-cooler: be quiet! Pure Rock 2

Now, the PC appears to be turning on fine, as both the motherboard and the GPU appears to light up (the motherboard only have a red lamp as an indication on it though; can't find anything in the manual that would indicate if it is some kind of error message.). But I've tried to connect both to the HDMI-port on the motherboard and the GPU and receives no screen.

This being my first build, the process went unfortunately not the smoothest. I suspect that the CPU might have been damaged during the process, as I accidentally tightened on one side of the CPU-cooler during the process of mounting it, before realizing that I should have gradually mounted the screws on both ends. That or due to me not expecting the CPU to be so heavy, thus had it somewhat dropped into the socket instead of letting it glide into it (still managed to drop in effortlessly though, but the impact might have still been enough for the pins to get damaged.). But I'm unsure if the CPU can be related to no picture showing up on the screen.

I would like to examine further, but I wonder if it is for now safe for me to just manually shut down the PC by holding down the power button? Do I run into some risk of damaging some kind of ongoing update? Since I can't get a screen connection I have no way of checking on the current status.

    Thankful for any advice.

ITX Mobo with Dual HDMI or HDMI+DP recommendations?

    Posted: 27 Jul 2020 01:47 PM PDT

    Hello!

I came across the Gigabyte B360N WiFI which has dual hdmi ports. I also noticed some other brands floating around with DP & HDMI. Your recommendations do not have to have wifi however that would be lovely if it will perform decently as a workstation. I'm also open to AMD.

    Thank You!

EDIT: looking at i3-9100 & i5-9400 for two seperate itx builds.

Looking for advice on my new PC build

    Posted: 27 Jul 2020 09:56 AM PDT

    Hello folks,

I've decided to make myself a new PC, I've had my old one for 7 ish years and it's beginning to show it's age... Overheating errors most recently. I've done a bit of research and figure I can probably salvage my power supply (750W 80+ gold) and my one SSD (250GB) but everything else will be replaced. I'm not completely computer illiterate but am by no means an expert when it comes to picking out the correct hardware. I'm intending on using it for gaming, I do have dual monitors and like to have 2 games going at once, usually a Civ style turn based game on one with something more demanding on the other (Hots mostly, occasionally CoD). While I'm not super picky about graphics or performance, I'm at a point in life where I can spend a bit more, and want to somewhat future proof the build so I can get another 7 or so years out of this one. Ideally want to keep things under $2,000 (in Canada).

Here is what I've come up with, after doing a bit of research online. Put together using the MemEx website comes out to $1,500 or so:

    Motherboard - Asus Prime B550M-A/CSM w/ DDR4-3200, 7.1 Audio CPU - AMD Ryzen 7 3800X Processor, 3.9GHz w/ 36MB Cache new 2nd SSD - Western Digital Black SN750 NVMe SSD M.2 PCI-E x4, 1TB Video Card - MSI GeForce RTX 2070 VENTUS GP 8GB PCI-E w/ HDMI Triple DP RAM - 2x8GB G.Skill Ripjaws V Series DDR4 3600MHz CL16 Dual Channel Kit

Like I said, I'm no expert, and don't like basing my choice 100% off internet articles which may or may not be sponsored... Does this part list look like it will do the trick?

My new PC build heats up my room too much, anything I can do to reduce it?

    Posted: 27 Jul 2020 01:34 PM PDT

    My specs:

CPU: Ryzen 5 3600x stock cooler.

    GPU: Nvidia Gigabyte RTX 2060.

    RAM: 16gb AData DDR4 XMPd to 3000mhz.

MOTHERBOARD: MSI B450 Gaming Plus MAX.

CASE: Some Cooler Master with 3 front intake fans and one exhaust fan came with it stock.

    .

    .

My friend says there's some light and easy stuff I can do to the GPU and CPU that won't be much difference in performance but will reduce heat, sound etc apparently but he's not too sure and forgot how to

Any help would be appreciated thank you
