I believe there is some kind of spider nest in my PC. What do I do (I'm extremely afraid of spiders)

    Posted: 14 Jul 2020 01:14 AM PDT

In the past 2 days, FOUR medium sized spiders have crawled from the "area" my PC sits in, and along the wall, all of a similar color and body shape. Seeing as how they've all appeared from the same area, even after killing one and disposing of it in the toilet, I believe that it is possible that there is a nest somewhere in my PC, as my desk is clear of any spiderwebs, and there isn't a crack in the wall down there or anything.

If anybody's experienced with this, what do you do to potentially clear it out? I don't wanna open it and have a hundred of these guys in my house, either.

edit: thanks for all the dad jokes and screw the people telling me to "man up" or "grow a pair." I'm gonna wait until later today and take it outside and open up the back panel. I might film it or take pictures. I'll make an update post and link it here if anything conclusive happens.

Who else is addicted to planning/building rigs and constantly thinks of excuses to start a build?

    Posted: 13 Jul 2020 08:03 PM PDT

Seriously. I've spent so much time on PC parts picker. I have no reason to build right now. Zip. Nada. Why am I looking at cases? Why?

Why am I asking my boss if I can build my own workstation when the one on my desk is fine?

Why are NVMe M.2 SSDs the same price as SATA 2.5" SSDs?

    Posted: 14 Jul 2020 10:16 AM PDT

I haven't really followed PC hardware for a couple years so it was nice to find out that NVMe drives no longer cost and arm and a leg but I was wondering, why would anyone geta WD Blue 3D or a Samsung 860 EVO when you could get a SN550 Blue or a 970 EVO Plus for nearly the same price with much faster speeds? Is there some sort of tradeoff here that I am missing?

    Thanks

Is a 144Hz monitor worth it?

    Posted: 14 Jul 2020 08:55 AM PDT

I am currently building my first gaming PC. The cpu + gpu combo i went for is the ryzen 5 2600 and 1660 super, as the parts can show this is a budget build. I'm looking to get a new monitor and all my friends tell me that I have to get a 144Hz monitor or else I wont get the best out of my pc. However, all of the cheapest 144Hz monitors are still on the pricier side for how much I wanted to spend on a monitor. I'm planning to use my PC for gaming and work related use, with games being more e-sports titles and indie games.

Do you think getting the 144Hz monitor is worth shelling out the extra money?

Don’t make the mistake I did. Building fail

    Posted: 14 Jul 2020 12:03 AM PDT

So I just put together my new pc. Including a ryzen 9 3900x. I put my cpu cooler on what I thought was right (had my brother help). About a month down the road I thought this ryzen was just super hot, I always heard that about AMD. Turns out my cpu fan was on the wrong side (facing the back of the case), pulling air from the exhaust fan which made no sense. Also I put my ram into the wrong slots so I made sure to fix that configuration while I was in there.

My idle temps before realizing the screw up was around 60c and 85c during load. I was always wondering why obs and apex ran my computer up so high in temps on lowest graphics when my friend with a badly put together prebuilt was a lot cooler. Now that I fixed it, I could run borderlands 2 at max settings and load 1080p videos with temps around 60c and only spiking to 85c when switching from chrome back to the game. Make sure you always read your manuals guys. Saved me an extra 120+ by just biting the bullet on an aio.

What is the best GPU option for my setup with a $400 budget?

    Posted: 14 Jul 2020 09:51 AM PDT

Not looking to spend much more than $400, but here is my current build: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/RfdDL2

I was thinking either the 2060 Super (if I can get one used on hardwareswap) or the 1660ti. Any other options are welcome!

Edit: Changed CPU from a 3600x to a 3600. I forgot to do this previously.

I’m broke but I want to build a pc.

    Posted: 14 Jul 2020 12:49 PM PDT

I was wondering what it would entail to build a pc for cheap because I'm very broke and was wondering if it was even possible with such a low budget as $100-$300. It may be a stupid question or idea but it's an undertaking I'm willing to go through. It doesn't need to be super beefy or fast but it should be able to run games like Minecraft and basic things like chrome, and windows programs.

TLDR: I want to build a pc for 100-300 dollars that can run games like Minecraft and basic windows programs

Something Exploded When I Powered My PC (Please Help)

    Posted: 14 Jul 2020 03:08 AM PDT

    Hello.

Exactly a week ago I completed my PC build and turned it on, and it worked fine. I wasn't really using it a lot but 3 days ago I started using the PC more.

Today, when I wasn't using the PC I heard a loud bang. The room (in which my PC is) didn't have any power, but the whole house did.

I checked the MCB and it was tripped (of my room only). I tried turning it back on but it just switched off immediately.

I hired an electrician and somehow the MCB got back on and didn't trip. The whole room's power was working correctly.

Then when I powered on my PC the same loud bang (it sounded like a bullet) I'm not sure where it came from.

The electrician checked everything and said most probably the PC is at fault.

But the PSU or any other component didn't smoke or even smell like they burned.

I'm not sure what to do, please help people of reddit!

    My PSU is (Corsair TXM650).

I'm also using an converter for the socket as it's an North American cord on the PSU.

EDIT: Forgot to mention I'm also using an SMPS it's fuse seems fine.

Is buying a used Dell Optiplex and adding a RX550 or GTX 1050 Ti a good idea to play GTA V?

    Posted: 14 Jul 2020 12:40 PM PDT

I currently have two laptops( Dell 7559 and Macbook pro 2016 model). I use my Dell to play GTA V, now whenever I start the laptop, it's going into boot mode and doing the ePSA pre-boot assessment check and giving me the warning that battery is not good. It occasionally shuts down on its own too.

I am not in a position to afford a new laptop or PC right now. The only game is play is GTA V. I was wondering if buying a used Dell Optiplex from eBay and adding a basic graphic card (RX550 or 1050 Ti) is a good idea or not! I am trying to figure if it's possible to get something under 200$. Any kind of suggestions or guidance would be definitely appreciated. Thanks

    First time ASRock user rant

    Posted: 14 Jul 2020 07:10 AM PDT

So I decided to go big this time around building a budget friendly compact PC so I bought the best MB, ASRock Z390 Phantom Gaming-ITX/ac, for my i5-9600k.

I've had some HDDs laying around, so I finally got around to wipe them with DBAN. But in the process I had to disable secure boot because of an error message I got while trying to load DBAN. I must have accidentally disabled something else because I could not access BIOS/UEFI with my keyboard nor could I navigate it when accessing it through the Recovery option in Windows.

Next step, obviously, clear CMOS, right? Not so fast. While the manual says: "This function is workable only when you power off your computer and unplug the power supply." it didn't work. And yes, I did read the manual. And yes, it is useless, but I read it nonetheless. So after seeking out help through forums and YouTube videos and exhausting all possible solutions, I was defeated. Until, I thought: "could it be that simple?", I challenged the Manual by pressing the CMOS reset button with the system turned off but NOT unplugged. Boom, BIOS reset. FML.

    Upgrading my PC

    Posted: 14 Jul 2020 01:58 PM PDT

So upgrading my old shitbox and I did a little bit of research with my friend and he said just ask this reddit if there are problems or suggestions for this build. Since I still have my old power supply: Thermaltake 630W bronze80plus and my 500gb ssd 860 evo and my old GPU: Radeon r9 380x which I also want to upgrade but that's going to have to wait until my finances allow it so suggestions for a gpu are welcome.

Preparing to pull the trigger on my first build. Check my parts!

    Posted: 14 Jul 2020 01:57 PM PDT

    Intended use: Gaming/browsing/light streaming

    Budget: ~ $1,000 - $1,500

    Location: USA

This is my very first build! Very nervous, but excited. I want it to be a decent system but I don't need anything crazy. Just a solid machine to game on, and preferably quiet. I don't care much about how it looks or RGB or anything like that. Please tell me if I'm doing something dumb before I buy.

    Also, pcpartpicker is telling me:

The Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler may require a separately available mounting adapter to fit the MSI B450 TOMAHAWK MAX ATX AM4 Motherboard.

How would I go about checking if I will or will not need an adapter?

    What GPU should I buy?

    Posted: 14 Jul 2020 01:47 PM PDT

Im planning to upgrade my pc (used for homework) from an amd fx 8150, asus crosshair v formula and a gt 710 to something capable of 1080p 144 fps gaming. I'm definitely going with ryzen 5 3600 and either an msi b450 tomahawk max or asus rog strix b450 f. I was wondering what gpu i should pair it with? There is an rtx 2060 for £300 on amazon, there is also a few rx 5600 xt for cheaper but im not sure if amd has sorted the issues with them. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Liquid or air?

    Posted: 14 Jul 2020 01:40 PM PDT

For my specific use, not in general. Putting together my new work computer and I've bought pretty much everything except the cooling. PC is used primarily for photo editing and graphic design, some video editing, and some CAD. Files are backed up via a NAS and the cloud.

The case I chose seems to have a reputation for bad cooling, which makes me lean toward liquid cooling with an AIO, but if something were to go bad with the AIO I'm worried about a) the downtime and b) damaged components. I'm leaning towards air cooling with the stock cooler for the "safety" of air cooling, but I'm also concerned I'll be unhappy with the cooling performance. If I upgrade to a aftermarket cooler I'm close enough in price with liquid cooling that I want to be confident it would on par performance wise.

Here is the air cooled build, with the aftermarket cooler (but if I can get away with the stock cooler that would be great)

What GPUs Can I Fit In My Case?

    Posted: 14 Jul 2020 11:26 AM PDT

Hey. Currently, this is my computer case. https://www.amazon.com/CybertronPC-Borg-Q-860X-Gaming-Desktop/dp/B011A7GQG8 . I've completely upgraded it. I added a 650w PSU. ASUS motherboard, ryzen 5 2600 CPU. I know what GPUs are compatible with my build, my only question is what can my case fit in it? Since it was originally prebuilt I can't find any sizing info for GPUs. I'm hoping to be able to put in 11 - 11.5 inch sized GPUs but I don't exactly know if it will fit. Is there any way to figure out sizing? The case is 19.5 inches long, but that's not the inside length, I just measured the outside. (sorry for grammar was kinda rushing this post)

Edit:This is my PC Build. (that i currently have) https://pcpartpicker.com/list/NPhthg

Edit2:The build above is my current PC. I upgraded the prebuilt, I'm thinking of putting a 2060 super, or 2070 super in there.
