    Why host managed SSDs have not picked up momentum?

    Having a complicated controller in SSD does not help with cost and complexity reduction.

    Host-managed SSDs are simple (the controller only interface raw NAND to PCI-E nvme, no FTL, no garbage collection or balancing), the management algorithms running on host CPU as a part of operating system, could be improved over time as system software rather than firmware.

    ​

    With so many advantages, why host managed SSDs have not picked up momentum? Not even in server market.

    Did Thermaltake update the G3? Or did amazon just mislist something?

    It says on amazon that there's a "newer model" of the thermaltake g3 case. Doesn't seem to be any differences between the two models so I was wondering if there was a recent change.
