Why do developers usually favor plugs easier to plug into a socket versus something like USB? Posted: 20 May 2020 08:55 PM PDT I dont understand why all plugs have a design where it doesnt matter which way you plug it? I really dislike micro-usb for example and always checking which way I have to plug it in. I cant even think of a reason why the USBC style wasnt doesnt for many plugs or a standard in general for design...for many years.... [link] [comments] |
ELI5: how can the PS5 run tech demos/games that it would take a 2070 super? Posted: 20 May 2020 10:53 AM PDT Hi all, I've followed the Unreal Engine 5 news with interest, and this article was striking: https://world-today-news.com/geforce-rtx-2070-super-and-ssd-are-enough-to-run-the-unreal-engine-5-tech-demo-on-a-pc/ —key line: "GeForce RTX 2070 Super? According to Mr. Libreri, yes, and the results will be "Pretty good". For comparison: the PlayStation 5 graphics accelerator, on which the demonstration was run, is capable of providing up to 10.28 teraflops, and the GeForce RTX 2070 Super has a theoretical performance of 9 teraflops" The 2070super is ~$500ish alone, which is likely more than/similar to what the PS5 is going to be. I understand that the PS5 is probably sold at a loss, but at a certain point, the question is: what is the PS5 doing differently technically at a similar price point to the end user? Is it simply just the more direct architecture where the data doesn't have to go through the CPU-PCIe bus etc? Edit: price of the 2070super, emphasis more on the technical differences rather than pure price comparison. [link] [comments] |
