Posted: 25 Apr 2020 06:19 PM PDT Was having some last moment doubts about the 3700x that I was gonna buy (was thinking of upgrading to the 3900x), and looked again at the whole lineup. What I found out is very interesting... Every single processor in the Ryzen 3000 series uses the exact same physical hardware (chip design). They are all cut out from the exact same "AMD Zen2" CPU core chip wafer in the factory. They just bin (sort) the Zen2 cores differently in the factory based on their factory overclock potential, and then assign how many cores are gonna go inside each CPU, and how much cache they'll put inside the CPU, etc. Sure, this isn't surprising to anyone. Intel does the same. But it's still good to be reminded of this sometimes. So basically, they are all the same, just that the "easiest overclockers" got factory-sorted into the higher-priced CPUs, and got a higher overclock by default. But, as GamersNexus points out: The binning doesn't *really* matter. The entire Ryzen 3000 series all overclock "about the same" (about as well as each other). He mentions in several videos that every Ryzen 3000 series overclocks to exactly 4.3 GHz at all-core full load. Literally all of them no matter which one it is! Since they are all the same chip and because the Zen2 architecture is remarkably consistent in quality of all chips.
Here's the thing... I was watching Gamers Nexus (easily the most advanced, nerdy, in-depth, most amazing tech reviewer out there), and he was showing several things in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PAGQwWDyURI This is what he very clearly and elegantly demonstrated:
Something else to keep in mind is that the 3900x has a 105 watt power draw. That's almost twice of what all the other CPUs on the list use. So you need a much heavier CPU cooler because every watt generates CPU heat. And you need a beefier power supply. And you use more electricity. It's just absolutely mental to put a 3900x in a general gaming machine (no offense to anyone who did that). It's a workstation/content production CPU and almost nobody needs it. I know that many gamers pick the 3700x by default since it is still known as a good mid-range CPU for a valuable price with 8 cores, etc. And that's fine. But it *is* a bit overkill. The 3600 overclocked is basically identical to the 3700x overclocked, in games, as mentioned. To make matters even more interesting...
It's been an interesting and educational day, and seeing the benchmark and overclock results from the most respectable overclocker in the tech industry (he goes into so much detail that most people can't even listen to him), just convinced me to get a Ryzen 3600 and the 2080 Super. I want to thank GamersNexus for their no-bullshit, technical approach to all of this. Hope this summary helps someone else while we all continue to await the new Ryzen 4000, socket AM5 and AMD + nVidia graphics cards that are all on the horizon! :-) Edit: As for 3600x, he summarizes it as "paying $50 for the letter X". It's the same as the 3600: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rDV7aA6arVo summarized as "There is no difference in anything except a higher overclock out of the box, but you can just do that yourself." what's more important , the motherboard or the processor ? Posted: 26 Apr 2020 09:25 AM PDT I'm looking to buy a pc from some friends , they both built it and have really great parts (almost exactly) the only difference is one of them has a better motherboard but a i7-6th gen processor the other has i7-9th gen processor but an average mother board they're both offering me the same price , and i'm so tense when comes to computers so idk which to buy i use lots of architecture and graphic design programs , such as auto cad , 3d max , illustrator , priemere pro .. etc [link] [comments]
Posted: 26 Apr 2020 09:56 AM PDT Fresh build about 2 weeks. Recently changed cpu cooler from stock. Pc was running fine for about 12 hrs I left and came back to a black screen but pc still powered. Figured it was sleeping so I mashed keys but nothing came on. Left it off for the night came back powered it on and no post. CPU: Ryzen 5 3600 Cooler: thermaltake ux100 GPU: MSI GeForce Rtx 2060 Mother: msi b450 gaming plus max Power: 600w 80+g thermaltake Ram: t force 3600mhz 8x2gb rgb Fans: I'm not sure (3x) rgb fans from cyber power Recently I stripped everything and reinstalled including the cpu cooler with fresh paste. I've removed cmos battery and reinstalled. (Have not flashed bios with usb) I've tried multiple monitors and hdmi cables I honestly believe I fried my cpu because I heard this cpu fan is suppose to be very loud but I don't think it has been running at full speed. And the computer does not power my keyboard through usb and I had this problem with another computer when I forgot to connect the 8pin header. Platform for finding and saving monitors. Posted: 26 Apr 2020 01:47 AM PDT About six months ago I had a pain-point finding a new monitor, all I wanted was a clear site to easily filter and save monitors to a list for later (much like PCPartPicker). I hope this new platform solves pain points I experienced. Last post went down since we didn't have mod approval (my bad!); for those looking for the decision tree tool it's still available but was moved to here; https://app.monitors.io/monitor-finder [link] [comments]

Posted: 26 Apr 2020 12:03 PM PDT Old budget pc is slowly dying so I'm building a new one. It'll be used for programming on a vm (might decide to dual boot, but still unsure) and gaming. Main games are Path of Exile, and Black Desert Online with a few others thrown in occasionally( Modded Minecraft, Terraria, and sometimes a shooter). Using PSU from my current computer to save a little and also might throw windows on my current SSD after wiping it, but it's old so I'm not sure if it is the wisest move.

Posted: 26 Apr 2020 10:58 AM PDT I've been looking to upgrade my computer from my super old 560ti 2gb that have served me for way too long. I did lots of research and boiled down to these two cards. Sapphire Nitro+ RX 5700XT and a RTX 2070 FE. The RX5700XT is a great card but I'm aware of the driver issues and would like your insight. Right now I have a 1080p 144hz monitor and looking to upgrade to 1440p 60hz or possibly 144hz if i can find it for under $300. Suggestings for upgrading CPU with around $400 budget. Posted: 26 Apr 2020 01:57 PM PDT Hey all, I have an older PC but am looking to upgrade CPU from an i5-4690k. Here are my current specs, GPU: GTX 970 SSC CPU: i5-4690k RAM: 2x4GB DDR3 @ 1333MHz Motherboard: Not sure generic Also, I plan on upgrading the rest of the parts in about 2-3 months so I'm not worried about my low end graphics card, Anyhow, for the $400 I have realized I will need new RAM now (DDR4), new MoBo and the CPU obviously. I have made the following list,: CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 - $160 MOBO: ASUS B450-Plus Prime AMD AM4 ATX - $100 RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws V 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4-3600 - $85 SSD: Inland Professional 120GB SSD - $20 Anything else I should consider? I don't have an SSD so that's why I through in the $20 SSD. Also, all prices were checked today at my local store, thanks for any suggestions. Posted: 26 Apr 2020 11:10 AM PDT I said it. In posts, to myself, I said I'd wait. I wanted to wait. I tried to wait. I didn't wait. Not in a rush in the slightest and I didn't even wait. All these posts and thinking about how old my PC is (i7 930 and gtx 780 still going strong haha) made me start to twitch and the monkey started rattling the cage. https://i.imgur.com/nlLsMHt.jpg The 1st time I'm actually happy I'm near a Microcenter. 2nd time with an AMD CPU. I usually flip flop and it was AMDs turn. Might change the board. The Pro and other similar boards were sold out a few days ago when I picked up the Ultra on sale (whopping $10 off and there was a $20 off bundle with compatible mobo). Talk me out of it or into another board? MSI perhaps? My last 2 boards were Gigabyte and I've had 0 issues over 7+ yrs, so that's kinda why I went there. I'm not a die hard fan though and have no problem putting my money elsewhere. Yes, I will use the power. I do server/vm work among other PC related hobbies. -edit- It's really just to share in the joy that many others are experiencing instead of being a grump about prices and availability. Newly upgraded Ryzen 5 3600 running hotter than expected causing increased fan noise Posted: 26 Apr 2020 10:09 AM PDT Troubleshooting Help:What is your parts list? Describe your problem. List any error messages and symptoms. Be descriptive. I previously had an AMD Ryzen 5 2600 processor and everything worked as expected – the system was virtually silent, and remained quiet even at high load. The processor would idle at around 25C and hover around 50C under high load, without causing excessive noise. Today, I upgraded my firmware and BIOS and installed a Ryzen 5 3600 processor. After doing so, the processor is idling around 50C and rising to between 70C and 90C under load, which causes the cooler to spin up loudly – and then spin down again after a few seconds when the temperature has gone under 60C. This repeats constantly, as the temperature rises again after only a few seconds, and it's driving me mad already. List anything you've done in attempt to diagnose or fix the problem. I checked settings and tried different performance and power profiles, I tried alternate fan curves, and I removed and reapplied the thermal interface paste (Arctic MX-4) in a cross shape. This did nothing whatsoever and the exact same temperatures remain. [link] [comments]
Trying to download things overnight Posted: 26 Apr 2020 01:50 PM PDT I've downloaded games from steam(namely rainbow 6 siege) and left my PC on overnight, when there is the best internet speed. This has worked fine and when the screen turns off due to inactivity the PC stays on and the game keeps downloading. Now downloading cod warzone(using a different app to download it from) and leaving the PC on overnight. When I wake up the fans aren't spinning and only the ram rgb is on. The game has barely downloaded at all. I'm assuming it's to do with the app and I just need to change some things in settings but first I needed to make sure theres nothing wrong with leaving the PC on overnight as long as it's not under heavy load [link] [comments]

Posted: 26 Apr 2020 01:43 PM PDT On my 860 Pro I used Samsung Magician and CrystalDiskMark and got 6408 MB/s sequential read (1MiB) and 6616 MB/s sequential write (1MiB). It stayed consistently fast as hell throughout. Looking at reviews of the Sabrant and Aorus M.2 drives online, the speeds are drastically slower. 4999 and 4456 MB/s read and write respectively for 1MiB sequential. But the the random 4KiB is only 63 MB/s read and 248 MB/s write, while my Samsung got 547 MB/s and 421 MB/s read and write. How can this be? Not only is the 860 Pro a few years older, but its also not NVME or PCIe Gen4. Can someone please help me understand. [link] [comments]
Posted: 26 Apr 2020 01:42 PM PDT I'm currently using a 27" 60hz 4K monitor, and though it's great for productivity and creative purposes, for gaming with my GTX 1070 Ti it's far from ideal. Running games at 1440p doesn't look great on it, and 1080p is even worse, but my card simply can't handle running games at 4K. So, I'm looking to buy a 1080p 144hz monitor with the same size as my 4K monitor to use alongside it, so I can use it solely for gaming purposes and get a much better viewing experience out of my 1070 Ti. Now I wonder: if I'd run these two monitors side by side, would I be able to run them at their respective maximum refresh rates simultaneously? And if it is possible, would the 4K monitor showing my desktop impact in-game performance in any way? Or would I be better off just selling my 4K monitor and getting a 1440p 144hz monitor to get a middle-of-the-road experience? [link] [comments]
No signs of life on Asus ROG Strix B450-F Gaming :( Posted: 26 Apr 2020 01:42 PM PDT Symptom: No LEDs turn on on motherboard Steps (while wearing anti static wrist strap): * Brand new motherboard, removed from anti static cover, put on mb box. * Installed Ryzen 3600X with stock cooler * Added 3600MHz RAM in A2 and B2 * Plugged in MB and CPU power connector * Turned on PSU Result: No LEDs light up on the mb. Tried: * Shorting the power on switch pins - nothing happens * Removing one RAM module (keeping just the A2 slot occupied) * PSU paper clip test - fan spins * Adding external GPU with 8-pin power connected - nothing changes There is absolutely no sign of life on the MB. Neither the debug LEDs nor the RGB light near the I/O ports light up. This is my second build but I've never seen anything like this. Could the motherboard be DOA? Posted: 26 Apr 2020 11:18 AM PDT Hi, folks! Since my old Fury X is making some heavy noise recently (which is a pain in the neck for me) I'm gonna swap it for a newer card but I'm uncertain which card to choose. I hover between the RX 5700 XT and the RTX 2060 Super, where my favoured custom models cost roughly the same (the Red Devil and the KFA2 Ex). The 5700 XT should be about 8-10% faster than the 2060 Super but RTX Raytracing and DLSS 2.0 seem very compelling to me (although the support for it is probably lacking). So I'm torn between raw bang for my buck and some nice features whose availability are still very uncertain. What would you choose in my stead?
