Why don't single board computers contain CMOS batteries?

    Posted: 20 Nov 2019 11:34 PM PST

I've noticed that most single board computers (like the Raspberry Pi) don't have CMOS batteries, which seems weird to me as don't you need one to maintain a real-time clock? Seeing how many uses for SBCs will involve them rarely connecting to the internet to sync their clocks and may also involve being completely unpowered for long periods of time, wouldn't it make sense to have some kind of built-in battery? Even a battery holder that the user can populate if they choose. Why don't they?

Also, what about commercial or industrial embedded/single board computers? Do they have batteries?
