My PC was pissed on last night, please help.

    Posted: 15 Nov 2019 12:40 PM PST

This story is so unbelievable I'm still processing it but long story short my roommate came from the bars last night and brought his girl with him. She came into my room at 5am thinking it was the bathroom, sat on my computer and started peeing. I have opening vents at the top so the urine dropped down into my computer and the MOBO and GPU. (It's the Meshify C case if you were wondering). I opened it up immediately and dried it down with a towel, the GPU, the MOBO, and everything else I found the liquid on. Right now it's drying next to the window pointed at the sun. How long should I wait to test it? Is there anything else I can do to hopefully preserve it? I'm hesitant to unplug cables and take out the parts because it's been 4 months since I built it and all my PC building skills are nonexistent, completely. Please let me know if there's anything I can do, thank you.

    i5-9400f vs i5-9600k

    Posted: 15 Nov 2019 03:19 AM PST

I'm going to be upgrading to a rtx 2060 super soon. I currently have an intel i5-7400 processor, I'm worried that this is going to bottleneck my gpu.

I play on 1080p and would like to get 60fps on ultra settings. I'm wondering if the extra cost of the 9600k would translate over to better performance. I live in Japan, the i5-9400f is ¥17,598 (161.97 USD) and the i5-9600k is ¥27,784 (255.72 USD).

The 9600k doesn't come with a cooler while the 9400f does. I won't be doing any overclocking, so is the extra cost of the 9600k still worth it?

Had a computer building party with my friends, and built a windows server for testing things!

    Posted: 15 Nov 2019 07:54 AM PST

    Build Pictures!

One of my friends wanted to build his new system, upgrading from an old i5, so we planned a PC build day! We gathered a few parts before, but on the day of we met up at micro center and picked up the rest of what we needed! I already have a primary gaming system but I wanted to do an all-white i9 build to use as a windows test server in my homelab, so I planned out my parts and reserved them so I could focus on helping my friend pick things out. He went with an i9-9900k and an Aorus 2080ti in his build, and it worked really nicely. I'll encourage him to post pictures of his setup/build as well!

One piece I was really excited for in this system was the h100i platinum in white, as it's really clean looking and comes with the LL120 fans. I added an additional three LL120s in white to complete the look and get three fans down the front. I was planning to rack mount this system as it's a server, so I looked for cases that would fit nicely in-between server rack posts, and the Corsair 460x fit my build perfectly! I removed the feet from the bottom of the case, and use the system lying on it's side on a rack mount shelf. I really like the way it looks in the rack! I'll post some more pictures of that once I get everything fully set up. At this point, I'm tinkering with Windows Server 2016 and getting things working the way I want, which is great! I am really happy with the performance so far, as part of what I wanted to figure out is how windows server 2016 performs/feels on an i9-9900k vs the 4 core 3ghz xeon i've used it on previously at work. It will also be interesting to test and compare this Windows server system vs a twin system I built previously for Ubuntu server.

    Here's the parts list!

How do you stop the urge to upgrade?

    Posted: 15 Nov 2019 11:56 AM PST

I'm starting to feel like an addict. Ever since finding hardware swap - all I want to do is find a better PC component and/or, more importantly, swipe up a really good deal on something, anything! Is this normal? Is it common to buy and sell PC equipment losing money in the process for only marginal upgrades? Right now I have a 2070 super and Ryzen 2600x, gaming at 1080p 144hz on ultra with no problems - but I WANT more! Do I need more? I don't know....

I've been obsessing about getting a 3rd gen Ryzen, a 2080 variation, and stepping up to 1440p 144hz gaming, but I only just upgraded a few months ago. Money isn't really the issue, it's whether or not the expense is worth it and necessary.

The struggle is real - life is good, these are good problems to have.

First build finalized, solid for 1440p 144hz?

    Posted: 15 Nov 2019 11:52 AM PST

So I went with the 2700x because it's $130 at microcenter and bundled it with the mobo for like $214. Overall the cpu/mobo/ssd/ram/gpu totaled $780 after taxes, so overall it shouldn't be more than $1000 giving me enough room to find a good quality 1440p 144hz monitor or to wait for a good sale for one. RTX 2080 Ti - Concerns and questions from a newbie

    Posted: 15 Nov 2019 05:18 AM PST

    Hi all.

My spouse has been requesting a RTX 2080 Ti graphics card for Christmas over a couple of years now. He wants the EVGA or ASUS brand with the lights. He has wanted to start upgrading his computer for forever and this is one of the main components he wants for his build.

I'll be honest - I have little knowledge of building a pc. However I'm not sure if this card can even be utilized with his current build. I'm also not sure if I can justify buying this graphics card as it is very pricey and he may not be able to use it now.

So a few questions from a novice:

    1. Would this card be able to be utilized with his current build (stats below)?
    2. Is there a more reasonably priced graphics card (below $1,000) that would work better in the interim until we could afford such a significantly expensive upgrade?
    3. Is it likely at all that this graphics cards price will drop to or below $1,000?

    Here are his stats:

    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-7400 CPU @ 3.00 GHz, 3,000 Mhz, 4 Core(s)

    Installed RAM: 8.00 GB

    Motherboard: Aspire TC-780

    System manufacturer: Acer

    System type: x64-based PC

Video / Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670

    Current Resolution: 1920 x 1080 x 59 hrtz

Any help or insight would be appreciated. I apologize if I left out any crucial details.

Edit: Reworded some things for clarification.

    MOBO: Rog Crosshair VII (Wifi)

RAM: 2x8 GB Vengeance LPX ddr4 3200 MHz

GPU: GIGABYTE AORUS GeForce RTX 2080 TI DirectX 12 GV-N208TAORUS X-11GC

Also some results from userbenchmark: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/21764315

Not sure where to start with figuring out what's wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Need help of deciding which GPU to get with this build, 1660 Ti vs 2060

    Posted: 15 Nov 2019 01:56 PM PST

Hey everyone. Through your help I was able to a pretty good build that fits my budget of $1000 and less, but Im having second thoughts on the GPU. Originally I was going to get the 1660 Ti, but I saw that the 2060 came with modern warfare which I was going to buy anyways, but I've heard the 1660 would be better. Thoughts?

Will backlight bleed get worse over time?

    Posted: 15 Nov 2019 05:39 AM PST

Ive been using my ViewSonic XG2401 for 6 months now and I never really noticed any issue with it. First of all, I dunno if the white line near the bottom of the screen is considered backlight bleed.

Anyway, I just noticed it just now when I turned off the light in my room, and I thought could it be an issue that was never there?

If it was a thing that has alrdy been around for the past 6 months, I don't think I will be too concerned. I'm just afraid that it might be a thing that has gotten worse and will get worse.

Btw, im referring to the white line near the bottom, not those white spots at the sides, those white spots are not noticeable at all.

Provide any additional details you wish below.

Spent the last two months or so thinking and modifying the last build ready post I made. I decided I'd be happier spending less on the tower, so I dropped down to a 2700X / B450 combo (already purchased) and went with a less powerful GPU to get 32GB of RAM. Leaning towards the 1660 over the 5700 to keep down power / noise / temperature.

I also swapped out the SSD for the faster Samsung and ditched the extra hard drive in order to cut down cost and noise. I can always add it later if I need it.

Any last minute thoughts? Hoping to buy as much as I can from Amazon.

Be careful with NZXT refurbished products. RTX 2080 Ti Experiencing Artifacting.

    Posted: 15 Nov 2019 01:49 PM PST

Recently I purchased a refurbished RTX 2080 Ti from https://www.nzxt.com/refurbished-components which is labelled as "NZXT Certified".

I only bought the GPU because I thought it had a 1 year warranty with an additional 30 day warranty, because when you read the NZXT terms of service, it states "All NZXT Certified Refurbished products carry a 1-year warranty from the date of purchase for parts and labor". Apparently, according to NZXT, the warranty only lasts 30 days, and they are not willing to issue a refund even though their TOS is very vague and misleading.

NZXT Support told me that if their testing cannot "verify the issue" or catch any defects, they will just send me the same card back, and when you add in 2-3 weeks of shipping back and forth, the warranty essentially expires then, which is pretty bullshit.

The artificating itself seems to be very rare. The card has been working great for a week, but out of nowhere, the card randomly experienced artificating for 20 seconds which froze my monitor. Rebooting fixed it, and it is working fine right now and works fine 99.9% of the time, which is why I feel like there's a high probability I'll just get shipped the same card back because it will appear to be "ok" to their testing team. Given that their testing process only lasts a day (which is their RMA turnaround time), and they could not catch any defects when they first sold me the card, I'm not too confident in their ability to catch any defects this time around.

So now I have a choice. I can either RMA the card to NZXT and potentially get shipped the same card back and if not, then another potentially defective replacement, or to the manufacturer EVGA, and I'm not sure how EVGA's RMA process works but my NZXT warranty would expire by then, so I'm thinking I should send it to NZXT first and then to EVGA if I get shipped back the same card.

Here is my transcript with support if anyone is interested. Any advice/help would be appreciated, thanks.

I want to upgrade parts of my PC, but don't know how to do so, or what to buy

    Posted: 15 Nov 2019 01:42 PM PST

As the title says; I want to upgrade my PC. I generally want an idea of how I should do this (physically), but for now the most important part is the parts.

    Specs:

    • Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 1600 (6-core) 3.2 GHz
    • Motherboard: MSI (AMD B350M Chipset) (Up to 2x PCI-E Devices)
    • System Memory: 8GB DDR4 2400MHz Digital Storm Performance Series
    • Power Supply: 600W EVGA
    • Storage Set: 1x Storage (1TB Seagate/Toshiba)
    • Graphics Card: GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB

I'm leaning towards upgrading the RAM (if that is possible) and video card. I don't really care about buying a SSD yet. Someone earlier mentioned to get a 1080, but where I live they cost 600+ EUR, and I'm instead leaning towards a 2060 (although there are different versions like TUF and dual. I have no idea what that means). My processor is fine as is?

As for games I want to play; RDR2 when it gets on steam, and most newer games (Cyberpunk, Modern Warfare, Star Wars Jedi).

    (Budget: Below 600 EUR)

Is it worth the money upgrading my build for the Halo MCC?

    Posted: 15 Nov 2019 01:19 PM PST

Hi everyone. I noticed that the Halo MCC is coming to PC (I played the original games and loved them). I never played the MCC on console. Is it worth upgrading my build to play at a higher resolution and/or refresh rate?

    CPU: i7 2700k @ 4.7GHz

    Cooler: Hyper 212 Evo

    MB: P8Z68-V Pro

    RAM: 16GB Kingston HyperX Blu 1600MHz DDR3

    GPU: RTX 2060

    Storage: 240GB Agility 3 & 1TB Evo 860 SSDs, 1TB WD Black & some slower storage HDDs.

    Peripherals: Razer Naga & Anansi

    Case: NZXT Phantom Full Tower

Monitors: two TN 1080p 60Hz monitors

    Upgrading:

    - I was thinking of changing the case to a nice mid tower with some new fans

    - upgrading the CPU, MB and RAM combo.

    - I haven't tried an NVME SSD, but from what I'm reading I won't notice it too much.

    - I'm interested in upgrading to a better monitor (1080p 144Hz or some type of 1440p), I never really tried it.

Is some/all of this a good idea?

I'm planning on upgrading to a 5700 xt in the near future. Which one would be the best out of these options (and why)?

I would be willing to spend upto $450 on this.

    Options:
    Red devil

    Nitro+

    Strix

    Gaming x

Another option is to get a strix 5700 and flash it to 5700 xt.

Which would be the best option?

    My computer blue-screened on me

    Posted: 15 Nov 2019 10:54 AM PST

Windows decided to update yesterday but it said that it wasn't able to update so it reverted the updates and restarted. After the restart it tried to load but then blue-screened. I tried restarting it multiple times and it didn't work. It's pretty old so it could be a hardware issue, but I want to rule everything else out before I go and spend money building a new one. I have no idea what to check to figure out what's wrong. Has anyone else ever had this happen and what should I do to fix it.

Second Build - Budget around 4k - Need advice

    Posted: 15 Nov 2019 12:22 PM PST

    Hello!

This is gonna be my second build with the first being a mid-range i5, GTX 970 gaming build, with which I couldn't run any big games even on low settings. I'd like to go pretty all out on this one considering how long you can keep them if you buy decent equipment. Nevertheless, my upper limit is around 4-4.2K USD.

I'll mainly use it for gaming and just everyday use. There are certain things that I'd like to stick to, but I could really use your advice on the things listed here below:

    • Should I get the i9-9900K or KS (KS is 90 bucks more here in Switzerland)?
    • Could use some help choosing RAM: I'd like 32GB and I think it's better to have 3200+ and 2*16GB - Is that right? Any recommendations?
    • I really don't know about monitors (just 144hz) so some advice there would be appreciated - Is curved worth it?
    • The Samsung 970 NVME is expensive but with Userbenchmark I couldn't really find anything on that level.
    • I'm pretty set on the Lian Li case but deciding whether to go Dynamic or Dynamic XL (I suck at cabling so extra space might help)
    • Just a note: I had 30% off all Corsair products so I bought 2\3 120MM fans as well as the Corsair Commander and H150i already.*

    My First Build Ever

    Posted: 15 Nov 2019 08:35 AM PST

So I've never built a PC before (or posted on reddit) and am looking for help in simply making sure I'm making the best choices when it comes to the items I chose and if there is anything I can cut back on without compromising on quality.

I mainly play csgo, r6s, pubg, and most likely master chief collection. I'm playing on getting a 144Hz monitor and am okay with lowering my settings a little to achieve that, but not below high if possible.

I chose the items in my build for their upgradability in the coming years, such as both the board and graphics card supporting 2way SLI.

I'm open for any suggestions or criticism!

Edit: There are 2 monitors chosen simply because I can't decide between a larger flat monitor, or a smaller curved monitor
