Does my pc get enough sleep?

    Posted: 15 Aug 2021 09:44 PM PDT

Hey so I use my all day and it's on for the majority of the time but then when I go to sleep I shutdown my pc and I usually sleep for 7 hours so my pc would also get 7 hours of sleep, is 7 hours good for the pc or is it better to keep it on all the time since I read somewhere if you're only turning off your pc for a short amount of time and you use it all day then you might as well not turn it off since it's bad for the lifespan or something on those lines.

Tl;dr - I'm just curious if 7 hours of sleep is good for my pc or if I should just leave it on all the time since I use my pc like around 15-17 hours a day

    Am i wrong here?

    Posted: 16 Aug 2021 09:25 AM PDT

So i sent my card to RMA at Gigabyte (because fan rattled at startup) but they kinda made it go away and its barely being heard now (may increase over time) (the only part i didnt tell him about to because i forgot i was at work) , tho i sold the card to an online buyer (face to face) because i just..don't feel like keeping it anymore and getting an RTX soon. The card warranty was transferred to him and everything was told to him from the company that fans were replaced once and that it was worked on by them. He still took the offer. And i told him "You heard everything and accepted the offer , if anything happens to the card even after this day. Its you and warranty im out of the picture" am i at fault for saying that? He agreed to all these terms and its current condition after all.

How often do you clean your PC?

    Posted: 16 Aug 2021 09:06 AM PDT

And what do you do/how do you do it when cleaning it? Just wipe down outside, clean the dust on the inside, disassemble stuff for better cleaning (for things like CPU cooler fins)?

Unable to fit GPU to mobo

    Posted: 16 Aug 2021 06:02 AM PDT

So I'm having trouble connecting my new RX 6600 XT to my a520 micro board. Wondering if the two are compatible since pcpartpicker says they are but I have tried connecting both in and out of case and haven't been able to. It feels like the slot is too narrow for the gpu/the gpu is too thick for the slot.

GPU: MSI RX 6600 XT gaming X

    MOBO: Asus prime A520M-K

    Thank you for the help.

EDIT: problem was solved but I encountered a new one. Appreciate the help from everyone. If anyone wants to help with the new problem here is the post:

Brand New Build - what did I screw up?

    Posted: 16 Aug 2021 12:52 PM PDT

It's been a long time since I've built a system as the one I have is currently still running strong...but unfortunately my new hobby has software that requires the AVX instruction set to function and there's no workaround for this.

    • NEW CPU - i9-10940x *** Replacing i7 990x

      • NEW MB - ASUS Prime X299-A II *** Replacing ASUS SABERTOOTH X58
      • NEW Ram - G.Skills 64Gb (4x16Gb) for quad action *** Replacing 24Gb (6x4Gb) of Kingston Hyper X DDR3-1600 CL9
      • NEW CPU Cooler - Noctua NH-D15S *** Replacing Cooler Master N520
      • NEW PS - EVGA SuperNOVA 750w Gold 80+ *** Replacing Ultra 750W ATX Power Supply (so close to keeping this)

Everything else in the list below is coming from my current system.

This build will be primarily for processing/editing massive amounts of image data from Astrophotography shoots. The software I use maximizes use of the number of cores, memory bandwidth, and storage access. I think I'm set in regards to cores and memory bandwidth, but am planning on setting of a couple NVME SSDs as a RAID 0 system.

Am I missing something? Parts should start arriving on Wednesday (minus the CPU, which I already have in hand).

    Is Resizeable Bar worth enabling?

    Posted: 16 Aug 2021 01:56 PM PDT

Do you guys enable Resizable bar with your gpus? I have a rtx 3080 and I believe this option is available in my bios. I read it doesn't really do much but at least its free performance, although I read some games actually loses fps when turning it on. Games I play ate cyberpunk, battlefield 5, warzone, doom eternal, overwatch.

Help my uncle wants me to build him some trading computer for wall street and I’m not sure what kind of cpu he needs for this math.

    Posted: 15 Aug 2021 07:07 PM PDT

"I'm running a bunch of functions which run 21000 paths multiple times and whatever laptop I have - fastest I could find several years ago - is starting to slow down….and is like the basic calculation to generate more like 210,000 paths." Sorry I'm not a big pc guy and just built my own computer which was cheap for games, so idk what he needs for this.

Only Getting 5 FPS on New PC Build? Please Help

    Posted: 16 Aug 2021 03:12 PM PDT

I am pretty much a noob when it comes to computers but I just built a new PC hoping to play at least GTA V (since I have an apu) on it, but I am only getting 5 frames per second and have no idea how to fix it or troubleshoot :(

I have seen other benchmark videos with my same APU and they have gotten 60 to 80 fps on GTA V

    My Build:

    CPU/GPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600g

    Motherboard: MSI B550m pro-vdh wifi

    RAM: TeamForce 16 gb of DDR4 3600

SSD: 500 gb crucial ssd (has windows and GTA)

    HDD: 2 tb Seagate Barracuda

Want some help looking over this build

    Posted: 16 Aug 2021 10:11 AM PDT

I'm planning on building this within the next several months. I've got a friend who was able to buy an extra 3080ti when they got in stock so I luckily already have that. Let me know if there's anything that's better or wouldn't work with other parts on this list. Thank you

Random stutters, extreme frame loss randomly during games and sometimes streaming

    Posted: 16 Aug 2021 02:49 PM PDT

    Hey buildapc

    Specs:

    i5 9600K @4.9ghz

    RTX 2070

16 gigs corsair 3600mhz RAM with xmp set

Lian Li Lancool 2 Mesh with 5 intake (3 front, 2 pulling up from bottom into GPU), 2 exhaust fans.

windows and games are on sata SSDs

So randomly while playing games, everything will be going fine and I'm getting steady 165 FPS (got a 165hz monitor) and alls good. After a while, it'll randomly just completely freeze for a half of a second or so and it seems to follow no real pattern. I have MSI afterburner graphs up and running showing all sorts of things and there are no CPU or GPU usages or temperature spikes that seem to correlate with these random stutters. With my case setup the temps are always great. I never really see anything over 70C. I do have light overclocks on the CPU and the GPU but I get these problems even without the OCs, and in fact set them up trying to solve this.

I'm just at a loss as to what is causing these random stutters in games. Sometimes it seems like it happens when streaming video as well, but it's hard to say if it's the same thing.

I played Destiny 2 for a few hours last night and let HWMonitor run the whole time, and there's some pictures of how that looked after a couple hours of stutters. Maybe there's something I'm missing, but I don't see anything overtly obvious on there that looks off. There's a lot that I don't know about though so hopefully one of you kind folks will have some ideas.

Any help would be very much appreciated!

Computer using integrated graphics card rather than GPU?

    Posted: 16 Aug 2021 02:17 PM PDT

Hey everyone, recently my computer performance has been absolutely abysmal (<15 fps) while gaming, and I've come to realize it's because the computer is using the integrated graphics card rather than the GPU. When I look at any performance metrics, my CPU is at like 100% use when I'm gaming, whereas the GPU is at like 2%, and the games are unplayable. The weird thing is, when I open up my settings in game, it says its using the 1070.

Before anyone asks, yes I checked and it is plugged into the GPU, so that should be what's in use. Has anyone encountered this/know how I can troubleshoot?

    Specs:

    GPU: 1070

    CPU: i7 4790k

    TY in advance!

    Build around Geforce GTX 1070

    Posted: 16 Aug 2021 02:10 PM PDT

Hi all! I have a Geforce GTX 1070 in my old computer. I'm looking to build a new system for streaming this upcoming winter and was wondering if I could just tear out my graphics card and use that in the new build. I have no idea if this would be able to handle streaming, though, and if it's even a decent card anymore. It would save me a bunch of money, but if it's going to be a waste of time I'd rather just shell out for a new card and save myself the extra effort. Thanks for your time!

What’s the most recommended NVMe SSD for gaming?

    Posted: 16 Aug 2021 11:44 AM PDT

I am planning on getting myself a better ssd so that i can install more games, but i am unsure of what ssd i should buy. I planned on getting WD Black SN850 since the speed was unbelievable, however my friend told me that the ssd is gonna be a problem when windows 11 is gonna come out. Now I'm worried that if i bought SN850 i would have to buy a different ssd when windows 11 comes out.

I would really appreciate if you can recommend me a better ssd than the one i was planning to get.

    Rtx 3080 underperforming

    Posted: 16 Aug 2021 05:09 AM PDT

Hi everyone, my first post here. So I recent bought an RTX 3080 LHR by PNY And put it in ny pc: Cpu: Ryzen 5 3600 @ 4.2Ghz Mobo: Msi meg b550 mortar wifi Ram: 16gb 3600hz gskill ripjaws Psu: 850 gold And 1.5tb of nvme ssd

And i use this to play warzone. I had an rtx 3060ti which was getting my around 100-110 fps on max 1440p but with the RTX 3080 im still getting 90-115 fps. At first I thought it might be a bottleneck by the ram and cpu - as i was getting 90% usage on ram and 80% on cpu. So i went ahead and did some research and found that 5600x with rtx 3080 gets around 145fps avg on max 1440p and bought ryzen 5600x and an extra 16gig of ram.

Got home to install happy that it would solve the issue. But no! Im stil getting like 20-50% gpu usuage while cpu is running on 50-60%

The weird thing is, when im in like really less popluated area my gpu usuage goes to 90-100% and im getting 160fps (during intros too)

I have contacted the supplier and they are willing to do a swap or refund.

But i was wondering if a swap will make a difference? Or is there some issue that im not aware of?

Updated pc: Cpu ryzen 5 5600x @4.7ghz Ram: 32gbs of 3600hz Rtx 3080 Please help
