    • Is this RAM compatible with my motherboard?
    • I'm thinking of getting a ≤$300 graphics card. Which one should I get?
    • I'm on a very tight budget and I'm looking for a case ≤$50

Built my first pc thanks to all the wonderful people on this sub - 5600X + 3060Ti

    Posted: 09 Aug 2021 03:33 AM PDT

    Hi there

Just wanted to share my excitement and gratitude on completing my first build over the weekend. It was intended to transition me over from expensive gaming laptops which despite their perks are a bit on the pricier side in the long run. Its also provided a bit of a distraction from some changes in life that were beyond my control.

Special shout out to u/greeyt for his feedback on my 'build help' post from a month ago but really everyone posting their own questions and answers has helped.

As a first-time builder, the most confusing part was figuring out the PSU connections. The most time consuming was putting the CPU air cooler on. The easiest, definitely the RAM!

I've enabled XMP to run my RAM on 3200Mhz and was researching whether under-volting/custom fan curves would be necessary for my use case.

While I wait for my furniture to arrive, here is a lone picture.

    PC Partpicker list.

What the fuck have I done?

    Posted: 09 Aug 2021 02:24 AM PDT

My pc was running fine then I was then I decided to fuck around with graphic settings and make my screen 800x600 and then I lost all mouse and keyboard control(though their lights turn on). The screen shows the time accurately. I have tried using different USB ports, opening into bios but it still won't work. What the fuck have I done and how do I fix this.

    Or

Gigabyte GeForce RTX 3060 GAMING OC 12G (Triple fan)

    Thanks.

I was checking out my motherboard and accidentally lightly touched the circuitry. It was unplugged and straight out of the box.

Help me choose between 3600 vs 5600x vs 3700x

    Posted: 09 Aug 2021 09:16 AM PDT

For a bit of context, I had i5 6600k, Gigabyte Z170x Gaming 7, 16gb 2400mhz corsair vengeance lpx, GTX 1080 FE and Corsair AX760 running. Two days back, my motherboard stopped working. So, as it stands, I am planning to upgrade processor + motherboard + RAM now.

I checked prices in my local stores and the way I see my options is:

    1. Ryzen 7 3700x + MSI B450 Tomahawk max ii

    2. Ryzen 5 5600x + an entry level B550 motherboard

    3. Ryzen 5 3600 + MSI B450 Gaming pro carbon max

My current custom watercooling loop doesn't have an AM4 block. So I have to live without it for the moment. Hence, the stock cooler is an important factor as I have to use it for quite a few months.

My main dilemma is whether to opt for 8c/16t of the 3700x or settle with the better single core performance on a sub-par board of the 5600x.

I usually don't change CPU in less than 5-6 years. Ensuring my current choice of the platform serves me well in that period is a necessity.

Buying a second 1080ti for sli worth it?

    Posted: 09 Aug 2021 10:23 AM PDT

Would buying a second 1080ti for sli be worth it? I'm new to sli and the easiest way I see getting 3070+ performance right now is by getting another 1080ti. Do most games even support sli nowadays? I've heard a lot of negative things about it so I wanted to make sure before I waste my money.

Edit: it seems sli is dead

Trying to RMA Gigabyte RTX 2080 Super

    Posted: 09 Aug 2021 03:14 AM PDT

As the title suggests, I'm trying to RMA a Gigabyte Waterforce (the one with a built in 240mm AIO) RTX 2080 super 8GB card. The card lights up but doesn't display out and on the back it is obvious an IC blew.

I've been trying for the last hour to try and get into contact with the support department but all the links I tried led to 502 bad gateways or nothing useful. Does anyone have a link where I can get in contact with support?

High End 3080 build, any advice/thoughts?

    Posted: 09 Aug 2021 11:56 AM PDT

    Hey there,

it's my first time trying to build a pc by myself, so I could use some advice/thoughts on the list of parts that I am currently planning to get!

I already bought the 3080 for 1050€ and checked if all the other parts are available.

I'll use the pc mainly for 170hz/1440p gaming, some light workstation use/streaming too but nothing major.

Are all the parts compatible? Is there anything I overlooked? Do the parts make sense with each other?

    All help is appreciated!

    Posted: 09 Aug 2021 12:49 PM PDT

Hi guys! I'm looking to put together a budget gaming PC for my partner. Its my first time trying to make a PC from scratch. I was graciously gifted a Nvidia Geforce GTX 970 4gb, a power supply and a monitor. I have a budget of 1000$ CAD for the rest of the PC. I just updated my parts list and want a final review of the parts based on recommendations.

This is the list of parts that I picked out on the Canadian pcpartspicker website:

Monitor randomly drops connection, dont know what to do.

    Posted: 09 Aug 2021 08:37 AM PDT

As stated in the title, my monitor has randomly started to drop connection, and the only way I can find to get it working again is to restart my pc. I've had this problem for a few weeks, but it has gotten much worse, to the point that I cannot play games for more than 5 or so minutes without it turning itself off. Please send some ideas.

    Advice on GPU for 1080p, 60fps, 75hz monitor gaming for a first-timer

    Posted: 09 Aug 2021 02:21 AM PDT

I'll get right to the point, for my build should I get a GTX 1660 Super/Ti or a RTX 2060? Is DLSS that much of a game changer and worth the extra money? Is the performance difference that great? In my country the 1660 super/ti go for the equivalent of +-550 USD and the rtx 2060 600-650 USD.

    PC Specs:

Motherboard - MSI B450-A Pro MAX

    CPU - AMD Ryzen 5 3600

CPU Cooler - Deepcool GAMMAXX 400

    RAM - 2x8GB HyperX Fury 3200mhz

    SSD - ADATA XPG Gammix S5 256GB M.2 PCIe

    HDD - 1TB Seagate Barracuda

    PSU - be quiet! System Power 9 600W 80+Bronze

    Case - Deepcool E-Shield

    Monitor - Acer RG240Ybmiix - 1920x1080, IPS, 75 hz, 1ms

I'm building my own PC for the first time, while on a bit of a budget, I'm excited to put it together soon. Thanks in advance!

    3600mhz CL18 to 4000mhz CL15 RAM upgrade?

    Posted: 09 Aug 2021 01:53 PM PDT

    Evening peoples!

As the title suggests I currently have the Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro which is running at 3833mhz (I think that the right number, its about that) and is CL18. Not the best with ram so haven't done anything with the timings. I am wondering if I would notice a large difference in terms of FPS boost within Warzone if I upgrade to the G Skill Trident 4000mhz ram?

It will cost me about £150 which I'm not massively fussed about but obvs don't also want to piss money away. I have an i9 9900k over clock to 4.9ghz and an FE 3080 just running at stock and although I have no real complaints, I want to get as much out of my system as possible and the next logical upgrade to me seems to be ram as warzone is CPU and RAM heavy.

Appreciate any thoughts and comments guys and gals, peace :)

PC for 1080p game streaming and video editing

    Posted: 09 Aug 2021 01:43 PM PDT

    5600x $320 or 5800x $480

MSI RTX 3060 Ti GAMING Z TRIO $640 or EVGA RTX 3070 Ti XC3 ULTRA GAMING $730

I need some advice on what CPU and GPU to get for best value. My biggest concern is that 5600x to be not powerful enough for streaming and video editing.

Not living in the US and these are the best prices I can get now.

I managed to get my hands on a GPU but the drivers on it are deleted? What do I do?

    Posted: 09 Aug 2021 11:08 AM PDT

    Hello,

A friend of mine had an RX 580 that I managed to get from him, only issue is that somehow he deleted the drivers from it sometime ago and he wasn't able to fix it. How would I go about fixing this issue, and is it even worth as I have an old GTX 970 that might be just as powerful if not more. Is it worth the effort?

Issues with booting - PSU, RAM, or MOBO issue?

    Posted: 09 Aug 2021 01:02 PM PDT

Hi there - I built this back in 2013, and it's still holding up very well, all things considered. In the past year, I've noticed that the PC will fail to boot, repeatedly starting and stopping right after the fans get to spinning. Eventually it will boot and be seemingly fine. However, starting from a turned off state starts this whole process again. This makes me think maybe my PSU needs to be replaced.

However, I've also, throughout the life of my PC, but especially more recently, noticed BSOD's sporadically. Not sure if that's a memory issue..

And finally, I've recently had issues with WiFi and sound, where sound apparently cuts out a lot when using discord or steam, and the wifi card just seems to be much slower than it used to be. Who knows if this is Mobo related or not.

Anyway, just trying to get ideas for things to fix, or if anyone has any anecdotal commentary that might help explain some of this. Again, everything is pretty old in terms of technology, so I wouldn't be surprised if the answer is "time to get a new computer" but I figured I'd try here first.

    Thanks!

    First PC Build-Help Please?

    Posted: 09 Aug 2021 12:59 PM PDT

I'm a newbie, sorry if there's anything wrong with what I'm asking about.

So I've been gathering parts for a pc (my brother gave me some parts that he was gonna use, but he ended up getting a prebuilt, so he gave them to me), and I'm new to this, but I'm finally at the point where I need to figure out what graphics card to buy. I need something that's not super expensive, but that's still pretty good. I Will provided the details of the parts I already have. The main games I would like to be able to run well are Subnautica/Subnautica Below Zero, The Half-Life Games, Fortnite, and preferably PCVR.

    Parts I Already Have:

Motherboard: B450M STEEL LEGEND It also says on the box on specifications "Graphics: Integrated AMD Radeon Vega Series Graphics..." Can someone tell me what that means lol?

    Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 2600

    EVGA 100-N1-0550-L1 550 N1, 550W Power Supply

    RAM: DDR 4 by "Ripjaws"

I'm not sure if the SSD and HDD I got matters in deciding, but please tell me if they do, and I will edit the post to provide them.

    Also,

Please tell me if I'm missing anything here lol.
