New build and 3090 is on fire.

    Posted: 16 Jun 2021 03:10 AM PDT

I recently finished my new build with a 3090 rog strix and im having serious heat issues to the point where my whole desk is really warm and my case glass actually burns my finger when touched, my ac cant even keep up with the 3090 lol. I have a lian li 011 case with top 3 fans pulling air out while others push. I have even tried under vaulting the gpu to 75% and yet im still seeing 70-80c while just gaming 1080p 240hz. Some advice with temps would be appreciated.

Edit: Thank you for all the suggestions everyone!

Friendly reminder: Never NEVER re-use the cables from modular power supplies.

    Posted: 16 Jun 2021 01:40 PM PDT

Even if it's the same brand and the connectors fit! Only use the cables that come with your power supply! I just fried my motherboard, some case fans, a webcam and a USB bluetooth adapter. Learn from my idiocy! Luckily my CPU and GPU made it out alive!

PC feels weird after switching from intel to AMD, issues going on

    Posted: 15 Jun 2021 06:48 PM PDT

I went from z490 gaming edge wifi to Dark Hero viii, and from i7-10700k to 5950x.

I was getting blue screen of death at first since I didn't reinstall windows when making the switch, I reinstalled windows with cloud was still getting blue screen, did it with local, still blue screen.

Blue screen seemed to only happen once, then after it didn't happen but I wasn't happy with that so I decided to keep reinstalling till it didn't happen.

I did it with USB boot and no more blue screens, I also updated the chipset driver and bios to latest beta version.

So far no blue screens, but PC already froze once, games feel with higher latency, and sometimes the start menu key doesn't work, like I can't press it.

What's going on? It's frustrating and would appreciate help.

Edit: got a blue screen when loading cpu z, when I launched it, I got my first blue screen with reinstallation of windows with USB.

    It's the WHEA UNCONTROLLABLE ERROR

RX 480 8gb is dying. What is my best bet to tide me over until the market normalizes?

    Posted: 15 Jun 2021 10:07 PM PDT

Built a new system last year. Ryzen 9, all the fixins, but couldn't find a video card and figured my trusty reference RX 480 would do the job for older games and my graphics work. Now it's running 80c+ and causing multiple reboots a day. I'm planning to try some emergency surgery to clean it out and replace the thermal paste, but if worst comes to worst I need a fallback plan, and I'd sooner not spend as much on a new card as I did on the rest of my system combined.

What office chairs do you guys recommend?

    Posted: 16 Jun 2021 02:47 PM PDT

I'm looking to finally spend some decent money on a office chair since I can't upgrade my GPU, what would you guys recommend? I'm looking to spend around $300 and I just want a comfortable, decent quality chair. I know most of those "gaming chairs" are cheap junk so prefer not go that route. I was looking at the ErgoChair Pro but that's just to pricey for me at $500.

    Thanks!

*I do not want a gaming chair lol

**I'm also on carpet, what do you guys think about replacing the normal wheels with these big boys

Looking to upgrade soon and not sure what to go for.

    Posted: 16 Jun 2021 03:07 PM PDT

I am currently running a Ryzen 5 3600x and a EVGA 1660 super. I plan on getting a 3070 ti/3080 whenever it is feasible to actually get one, but in the meantime I am wondering where to go with my processor. My original build was meant to be a mid tier pc, and has been great and reliable, especially for the money, but I will want to upgrade eventually. Not sure where to go with my processor that will move my pc from mid tier to high tier, without being completely unnecessary. Suggestions?

Edit: If processor suggestions do not come with a cooler included, please include suggestions for that as well if possible.

New build is shutting down randomly. I could use some pointers on where to look.

    Posted: 16 Jun 2021 06:56 AM PDT

Just built my second PC and all was well for a while. Then it started just dying ("click", power shutoff, restart) when I was playing a game. I assumed it was because of lack of a graphics card - then it started dying when I was using Excel. Now it dies randomly even when I just let it idle.

I have completely wiped the drive and reinstalled Windows, but it didn't help. I suspected overheating and bumped up the fan speed, but the admin console shows the CPU around 35C and it's still happening - even when I leave it off overnight.

All of the parts are new. Any suggestions where I should look next? My current plan is to strip everything down and rebuild, but a more precise approach would be very welcome.

So I'm trying to put together my new PC and everything works but I am getting a no memory detected error (5 short beeps and 1 long). The memory is ECC registered and running at a speed of 2133, which as I understand is supported by both the CPU and motherboard, any ideas?

Should 700w be enough for my build?

    Posted: 16 Jun 2021 02:39 PM PDT

Is it important to have a higher wattage PSU than what's required for your build?

I'm planning to use a 10850k (OC) with a 3060ti or 3070 (if those ever get in stock)

with 32GB Ram, 2 SSDs, maybe 2-3 HDDs

Should I bother get a 750w or would 700w be enough? because I found a powersupply not too expensive (EVGA 700 GD, 80+ Gold 700 W)

Also should I get a Bronze, Silver or Gold?

Which Power cable for a Toshiba SSD?

    Posted: 16 Jun 2021 02:16 PM PDT

Hi guys. Probably a silly question but I have ordered and received a Toshiba 1.6TB 2.5" SAS 12G Enterprise Mixed Use Solid State Drive SSD PX05SVB160

But I can't power it. It has 4 pins which I imagine is the power and I don't know what the cable is I need to get it running. Thanks in advance. Links to what I bought below.

Download speeds should be higher than they are?

    Posted: 16 Jun 2021 11:10 AM PDT

Based on everything I can think of, my download speeds should be much higher than I currently experience. My PC is connected with gigabit Ethernet(I think CAT 5e), my motherboard(ASRock B450M Pro4) lists it has Realtek Gigabit LAN, my modem specifically labels that is has gigabit ports, and the wifi(according to google home) can reach download speeds of 900 Mb/s. Task Manager says that I have 100% network usage at about 96 Mb/s when I'm downloading something, and the application I'm using to download(steam, epic games) usually lists about 9-10 MB/s speeds. By my understanding, I should be getting about 10x higher speeds. Is there another variable that I'm forgetting that could be the problem, is my math wrong?

Upgrade for 1080p gaming at 144hz/144fps

    Posted: 16 Jun 2021 06:45 AM PDT

My pc has a Ryzen 5 3600 with a Radeon Sapphire RX 5600 XT. RAM and SSD are pretty solid so no issues there.

Sometimes when gaming at 144 fps i notice the fans going wild, and on some games i have to lower settings otherwise i cant reach the 144fps.

To ensure i could have 144 fps at all times, would it be better to get a Ryzen 5600x, or upgrade the GPU to lets say, a 6700XT?

Nvidia cards are expensive here, more than usual, hence me going AMD for the GPU.

    4x16 or 2x16 for ram

    Posted: 16 Jun 2021 03:50 PM PDT

So I happened to purchase 2x16GB of ram and the seller threw in an additional 2x16GB for $40. It's the exact same ram and product. Is there any downside to running 4 sticks of ram vs 2 ? I keep reading posts about people preferring 2 over 4 but for essentially the same amount of ram where if I ram 4 sticks, I would double the amount. Just wanting to make sure I won't see any downside since I already have the ram.

Building pc with 2 liquid coolers (cpu and gpu)!

    Posted: 16 Jun 2021 03:48 PM PDT

I'm trying to put together a pc with these parts, but I have having trouble thinking of how to put these 2 liquid coolers. I was thinking of doing a vertical setup with the kraken and then installing the 3080ti cooler onto the top of the fan. I was wanting suggestions if anybody had to do 2 liquid coolers, one for your cpu and one for your gpu, before. Is there a better way to set this up, will it fit in the case, and if I do make my kraken a vertical setup do I make the fans as intake instead of exhaust since its the front?

Case: Nzxt H710i case with a AIO Liquid Cooler: Nzxt Kraken Z73 Motherboard: ASUS ROG X570 Crosshair VIII Hero (Wi-Fi) GPU: NVIDIA EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti FTW3 HYBIRD

New build getting 1 long beep, 3 short beeps, no VGA detected

    Posted: 16 Jun 2021 03:47 PM PDT

Hello, I had a working sandy bridge system, i took the PSU and GPU (EVGA 500w and R8 480 8GB) into a new system:

    • i5-10400f
    • 2x8GB Crucial Ballistix 3000 MHz DDR4
    • Crucial BX500 1TB 3D NAND SATA 2.5-Inch Internal SSD
    • I have been through 2 mobos, new one is ASUS Prime B460M-A

I'm getting a post error of 1 long beep and 3 short beeps.

I have tested known working RAM and known working GPU from another system. I find it highly unlikely the 2nd motherboard is the problem. Also seems unlikely that the power supply that was working 2 days ago in the old system is the culprit either. Could the CPU possibly cause this? Has anyone seen this before?

Today marks 1 year since I built my PC, and I couldn't be happier. It's one of the best things I've done in recent years, especially now since I'm getting into game developing. I'm contemplating buying more RAM to make it either 32GB or just buy different RAM in general. Probably G Skill.

Advice on first time buying a pre-built PC.

    Posted: 16 Jun 2021 03:44 PM PDT

Hi, so I'm looking to finally transition from console gaming to PC, predominantly to play games such as Overwatch and Battlefield.

This is my current build - https://www.pcspecialist.ie/view/Fusion-XR/

My question is, are there any major issues within this? For example, I'm not very knowledgeable in this area so I'm wondering things like ...

Is the power supply good enough?

    Is everything compatible?

Could I run into any potential issues?

Could I do much better value for money with something etc?

Any advice/recommendations or any issues that stand out to you, please let me know! All input would be seriously appreciated. Thanks !

What is the smallest full ATX case you can get?

    Posted: 16 Jun 2021 01:30 PM PDT

    Hi There!

I saw a few threads on a similar topic from 3 years ago. But wondered if there had been any changes since then.

I'm looking to re-house my PC into a smaller case. My current one is absolutely HENCH (W13"xD16"xH17.5").

If anyone has any suggestions on great compact cases, I'd love to see them! For reference here is my system as it currently sits - but I'd consider updating a few of the cheaper components if it let me get a smaller case.

    Thanks for any advice!

    gpu going crazy

    Posted: 16 Jun 2021 03:31 PM PDT

i dont know how long this has been happening however when using msi afterburner if my gpu fan spins bellow 33% the fans continue to spin but i hear them constantly slow down and speed up . im talking without stabalizing just slowdown and speedup constantly.

normaly msi reads the gpu with

    300mhz gpu clock

    405mhz memory clock

    randomly it jumps to

    1400mhz gpu clock

    7000mhz memory clock

im not sure if this has anything to do with the reving and slowing of the fans.

i have an rtx 2060 super

recently i changed psu but im 90% sure this happened before. the other psu was 700w this one is 850w.
