Today I learnt that there are different kinds of m.2 sockets the hard way.

    Posted: 21 Apr 2021 12:34 AM PDT

I have never used m.2 before today and decided to buy a m.2 wifi/bluetooth card. The premise of super-fast wifi and bluetooth sounded great to me, and this m.2 all in one was cheaper than any of the pcie options.

The package I received had no information on it at all - just the chip. I find the socket on my mobo when I get home and check youtube as to how to install it.

'Looks simple enough to me' I thought.

It did seem a little strange that there was another etch in my wifi card than there was in the video and the card would be facing upside down... but I put it down to the wifi card needing fewer lanes or something. The card fit afterall.

After booting up the computer the wifi wasnt working. I searched the Intel website for a driver but there werent any to be installed.

'I mustn't have inserted it fully.' was going though my mind as I reopened the case.

I go to adjust the card and what could only be described as a glimpse into Hades of a sensation occurred. This thing was HOT. Like sausage sizzling hot.

I've never had a dead-on-arrival before but that was what I convinced myself as to what had happened... what an imbecile.

After some research I start hearing 'e-type' and 'm-type' being thrown about in some more relevant youtube videos. Whoops.

It seems crazy to me that this wasnt even documented on the specifications on the websie from which I bought it. Just the board form factor of 22x30. If it wasnt for these youtube videos I'd be embarrassing myself by claiming they gave me a dud product.

The chip is likely dead and the socket possibly so too. I think I shall be sticking to SATA and PCIE from now on.

Tl:dr Never installed m.2 before. Installed the e-type form factor upside down in m-type socket and got burnt.

    Poor gaming performance RTX 3090 + 5900X

    Posted: 21 Apr 2021 12:15 PM PDT

    Hey guys

I've just upgraded my motherboard to a X570 Aorus Master and also got a Ryzen 9 5900x.

Problem is...I'm going terribly low on gaming FPS. tried Fortnite for example and barely reaches 60fps with Epic Settings RTX off.

GPU usage goes 99% and CPU goes around 20. I was playing with my I9 9900k before and performance was way better.

I'm currently using a XPG 3000 memory, not sure if that's the problem but I just order a Corsair 36000 just in case.

Can you guys give me a hand???

Hello, beginner here. I've been winging everything so far, and I decided to come here for help. I basically need a GPU that can run games like Apex, Genshin, and Valorant. My total budget is $1,300, but I want a GPU under $500. I also have a Google form here and any tips are appreciated.

Just snagged a 5900X, seeking opinions on mobos and coolers

    Posted: 21 Apr 2021 05:51 AM PDT

So my habit of checking local parts retailers when I should be working instead (ahem) just paid off as Ryzen 5900Xs suddenly popped up in stock.

Problem is I wasn't expecting it so I haven't done much research on the rest of the build (it's an upgrade).

What is the general sentiment on the most solid mobos for Ryzen? My priorities:

    • Don't care about overclocking but want something that can reasonably max out Ryzen PBO
    • Don't need WiFi but 2.5Gb ethernet would be nice
    • Keep it under €200 if possible

And what about air coolers? I'm biased toward Noctua but could be persuaded to get something else.

600 watt Power Supply for 3070 card

So last year I built my PC Ryzen 3600, EVGA 2060 KO Ultra, 16 GBCorsair Vengence RGB, ASROCK Steel Legend B550 motherboard, my question is my current power supply is a 600 watt EVGA BQ 80plus bronze... Will this power supply be able to support my 3070 Founders Edition with an X53 NZXT Kraken AIO? I just want to be sure my power supply will be able to handle the new card and cooler. I was looking at buying one of the B-stock EVGA 750 Watt power supplies if I did need to upgrade. Thanks in advance for you help!

    Motherboard broken after GPU change?

    Posted: 21 Apr 2021 02:46 AM PDT

Hey Guys, So yesterday I changed the GPU(from RTX 2060 to a RTX 2070) in my recent PC-Build. After changing it (did that prolly 30 times in different systems before) I couldn't get any input nor output. Switching on with the power button worked - fans spin, leds work - , but no usb ports, no display output and no buttons (not even the power switch) is working as soon as the PC is on. Everything worked fine the day before. Things I've tried so far: - Clear CMOS Header - removing the onboard cell battery for 10h - Flashed a new BIOS Version - installing the old GPU - unplugging and replugging all cables to the MoBo

Nothing worked. Maybe you had the same issue before and know a solution, but I tried everything I could think of. It may be the PSU but why wouldn't it work even without a external GPU.

    System info: - CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 - MOBO: ROG Strix B450-F GAMING II - RAM: 2x 8GB DDR4 - GPU: KFA2 RTX 2060 - PSU: 500W

Thank you for any kind of help!

UPDATE: Pretty sure Mainboard is dead. Doesn't go into POST-Mode. I guess I'll have to get rid of it. Thank you everyone for your help!!!

PC sometimes doesn't boot, can fix by unplugging all IO

    Posted: 21 Apr 2021 12:01 PM PDT

about 20% of the time when I restart my PC it doesn't boot not even to bios. My monitors get a signal to turn on but no image. typically it turns on then crashes ~30 seconds later. I can fix this every time by simply turning off my power supply unplugging all my IO starting the computer and plugging it all back in. When this first started is was quite concerning, but it's been doing this forever and doesn't seem to be correlated with the hardware as I've replaced and upgraded almost every component and fresh installed most bios and windows. Also once it is on it doesn't crash ever. I do have overclocks on the GPU Memory and CPU, but considering that the PC doesn't crash ever one on I don't see how they could be unstable and causing this issue.

I mostly just wondering if this is a common issue when u have lot's of IO, I have most ports filled plus the internal 19 pin usb ports are daisy chained to add more slots. I also have a 4 external usb hubs if u include the case and 2 of my monitors plus and extra mounted to my desk for other stuff. also have speakers line out and headphone line out.

What could be causing this issue,? is it simply that I have to much IO that it crashes trying to initialize all of it on Boot?

TLDR: pc randomly won't boot to bios even, disconnecting all my IO and then starting it fixes it every time first try

Sudden FPS drops while playing games (from 100-110 to 10)

    Posted: 21 Apr 2021 11:26 AM PDT

    Hey guys.
First of all I'm sorry if I am posting this in a wrong subreddit but it has a lot of members so I thought that might help.

I've never had this problem before. It started happening like two weeks ago.
Whenever I play CS:GO or DotA 2 I get these sudden fps drops (from 100-110 to 10) and it lasts like 10 seconds and than it goes back to normal. It happens in random times between 5 - 10 min. It's literally unplayable in those 10 seconds. Sometimes it happens during duels in CS:GO or fights in DotA 2 and it really frustrates me because I can't do anything in those 10 seconds with 10 fps. I've updated everything through Windows Updates, I have the latest NVIDIA driver etc. Laptop runs smoothly during other actions. This only happens while playing games. (CS:GO,DotA2).

My laptop is ACER Aspire 3
Intel Core i5-8250U 1.6GHz with Turbo Boost up to 3.4GHz
NVIDIA GeForce MX130 with 2GB VRAM
    8GB DDR4 Memory
    512GB PCIe NVMe SSD
If anyone encountered this problem and found a fix I would be so thankful if you tell me what and how to fix it for myself.

PC turns off after being powered on, please help! Read text below.

    Posted: 21 Apr 2021 03:10 PM PDT

Hey everyone, let me get straight to the point.

So my best friends little brother spilled soda on his own pc and it would not start. Long story short he wouldn't tell me or his brother what happened. After opening up the pc and tearing the gpu open it seems like the soda got all the way down to the gpu and there was corrosion and liquid damage. The liquid had gotten into the gpu, was on the motherboard and was near the power supply.

What we did since we figured out the liquid damage on the GPU:

    1. We took the gpu out and tried to turn the pc on, we got it to show the motherboard name on the screen and it wouldn't get past that.
    2. We got a new Motherboard and GPU. After reconnecting everything we would power the pc and it would turn on and off right away.
    3. We then got a new power supply and the pc and it would turn on and off right away again.
    4. We tried different ram incase the ram was the issue, the pc and it would turn on and off right away again.

At this point I have no clue what the issue can be, I work with pc's a lot but this has just stunned me and idk what I have to do next. Any recommendations would help greatly.

    Previous parts:

CPU: Intel i7 6700k (this should be the cpu)
MB: Asus H170 pro gaming atx lga1151
    GPU: asus strix 1080ti
    PS: Corsair 750W

    New parts:

CPU: Intel i7 6700k (this should be the cpu)
MB: ASRock B365 Pro4 Intel LGA 1151 ATX Motherboard
    GPU: asus tuf 3060

Dad, Architecht needs a new screen to replace 27" iMac, what should i get him?

    Posted: 21 Apr 2021 03:01 PM PDT

What is recommendable, ideally some that he can attach to using displayport/thunderbolt from his MacBook

Size no bigger than the old iMac he says, but he'll end up loving some thing a little over.

And he'd prefer sleek and minimalistic bezel .

Will my GTX 960 4gb be able to play games like Valorant at 1440p 144hz

    Posted: 21 Apr 2021 02:39 PM PDT

I just got a 1440p 144hz monitor, this one to be exact: Amazon.com: ViewSonic VX2768-2KPC-MHD 27 Inch 1440p Curved 144Hz 1ms Gaming Monitor with FreeSync Premium Eye Care HDMI and Display Port, Black: Computers & Accessories

I know modern AAA games won't, this is an old GPU afterall... I'm planning on getting a RTX 3060 ti if they decide to actually make more than 2 a month. I was just curious to see if I'd be able to use the monitor to its full power, or would I need to bump it down to 1080p until I upgrade.

tForce vulcan Z ram not clipping into ASRock a320m-HDV

    Posted: 21 Apr 2021 02:36 PM PDT

Hey there, I'm seeking some help on how to clip the ram into my PC (beginner mistake) I took both sticks out to get the dust off of them and now I can't seem to clip them in. I've checked the orientation of the sticks and that's all correct. Am I not pushing hard enough? I'm scared to break my mobo or end up with dead ram sticks. They are also in the right slots as well. I'm pushing with a decent amount of force and the clips just won't clip up. And if I do it manually the ram dosen't lock in. Any help is appreciated and I'm looking for a solution asap!

Switching from MATX to ITX for my HTPC/part-time VR hosting PC, and I need some advice on a budget board to suffice. I've looked everywhere, but since all the cheap ones are OOS, I can't get a fair comparison since those ones are excluded from order by price.

I bought a new 850w psu installed it and the pc wouldn't boot so I checked Reddit for help and everything I found didn't work so I tried to swap to my old one and it still won't work. When I press the start button all the fans (the gpu ones too if that means anything) turn on for a sec but then stop. I quadruple checked all the connections. And the cpu connection is keyed correctly. PLEASE HELP

    pc build advice

    Posted: 21 Apr 2021 02:20 PM PDT

So I want to build my first pc and have some struggles deciding what the best options are. The pc will be mostly used for gaming, daily use and possibly some light video editing/ digital art /streaming.

    Here's a list I made: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/D7hpkX

For the gpu I was thinking about a rtx 2080 super/ rtx 3070 but almost no cards are available right now in my country or just have ridiculous prices so I will take whatever comes back on stock.

    The questions I have:

-Will the pc meet my needs and perform good?

-Is there something I could change to improve the build?

-Could I go lower on something to reduce the price?
