How did y´all get these rtx 3000 cards???

    Posted: 10 Mar 2021 11:45 PM PST

I have been trying to get a 3060ti/3070 for two months now, but it seems nearly impossible. (even with twitter alerts and discord server.)

And I am not alone in this. Everyone seems to agree that these cards don't seem to exist....

Yet, when ever I look at new builds or watch setup reactions, a ton of people have these cards.

I have also seen twitter surveys where most people say they managed to get one but, HOW??

Y´all buying from scalpers or what??

What is a good 1440 144hz monitor with gsync

    Posted: 11 Mar 2021 06:28 AM PST

I currently only have a 2060 but I'm hoping to upgrade to a 3070 when graphics cards are more affordable. Also my current monitor is only 60hz so I would like to upgrade the hz anyways.

Edit: thanks everyone for all the responses. Once I save up enough I will definitely get a new monitor. Also thanks for the award it my first one ever:)

The best reason for building your own pc I never see anyone talk about is...

    Posted: 11 Mar 2021 02:37 AM PST

no bloatware. it's such a fresh breath of air not having to have some random lenovo software because you bought a lenovo prebuilt (happened to me), or some stupid McAfee thing being installed because your prebuilt had it installed. Literally if you have a prebuilt somewhere around you go and check out the kind of bloatware that's on it. my mother's computer has something called HP support assistant.. Like it's all just intrusive and stupid to have.

I was so used to having something permanently stuck on the task bar that when I built my pc it felt so empty but tidy. And that bloatware does take up storage too so less storage for games and other important stuff at that !!

    Lenovo P24Q-20 vs. Dell 2421D

    Posted: 11 Mar 2021 11:35 AM PST

Building out my home office with two monitors and have settled on these two due to them both having an adjustable height stand. Customer reviews in meaningful quantities on the Lenovo monitors are hard to come by so I feel like I am flying blind. The Dell rates well. Can anyone offer any personal feedback/knowledge on these competing lines of monitors?

    Leveled up my Gaming Rig!

    Posted: 11 Mar 2021 07:08 AM PST

Just upgraded my PC after I first built it in 2016. With the current GPU market I kept my original GPU (GTX 1070) as well as my PSU but everything else is new. I couldn't be happier with the way it turned out! The Phanteks P500A is an amazing case. The build experience vs my old cheap case was just night and day. I was able to snag a 5600X at MSRP recently which allowed me to finally make this happen. I had been searching for one since mid-December.

Struggling big time with gaming on this PC. Is it my rig? Am I doing something wrong?

    Posted: 11 Mar 2021 07:42 AM PST

Please don't downvote me, I'm not here to bitch out PC gaming, I just want help.

I don't know how you guys do it, either something is up with my rig or PC gaming is just too high maintenance for me to enjoy it. Any help would be appreciated. I'm going to break down my experience since I built this rig. Note the rig *was* built for work, but the intent was to also get some game time in on it instead of buying one of the new consoles. Coming from an Xbox One X and PS4 Pro.

My rig was built based on recommendations from this very sub, here are my specs:

    - Ryzen 9 3950X- 32GB DDR4- Radeon 5500 XT- 1TB M.2 SSD (For work) + 2TB SATA SSD (For games)- 750W Semi-Modular PSU

    -----

First of all I was finding some of my old favourite games running crazy fast on my 144Hz monitor. AMD's software no longer has a framerate limiter so I had to do a lot of googling. Rivatuner just threw an error on startup so gave up on that. Eventually found some DLL injection thing to drop into those games' folders. Weird to think they didn't expect any monitors above 60Hz, I remember having a 75Hz monitor back in like 2003...

Then I downloaded DOOM 2016, to play it on PC, and it just regularly would freeze up for a moment then kick me to the desktop with an AMD "Timeout Detected" error along with a clicking sound from my GPU and I'd have to restart my computer to play anything else. Only DOOM 2016 and Sonic Lost World (for some reason) do this.

Everybody told me to play Sonic Generations on PC, since it's 60fps which improves the experience a lot. Well it took me days of googling and eventually buying an adaptor instead of using Bluetooth to get it to recognise my Xbox Series X controller (the standard for PC right?), and then after that it decided to randomly freeze up for a second and then scramble all the inputs on the pad (so X became jump, right stick became pause...)

Checked out Gears of War Ultimate Edition, beautiful smooth 60fps... with regular freezeups and frame drops to 10fps or so every few minutes for no apparent reason.

Everybody's Gone To The Rapture, one of my favourites for the PS4, thought I'd give it a go on PC... Sub-20fps even on low settings. Googling this shows loads of other people with the same complaint and no fix. Refunded it.

Tried Blair Witch on Game Pass. Looks and runs great... Except for the half-second of input lag on the mouse.

Remembered how much I enjoyed The Stanley Parable back when I played it on my old iMac (yeah I know I know, I never used it for games though, only ever for stuff I couldn't play on my consoles, it was a work machine), so I redownloaded that... It just crashes after loading the game, every time. Google that, apparently it's because my CPU has too many cores. Great. Chose a high number of cores for work, since there's a lot of code compiling etc.

Downloaded GOG Galaxy 2 to get around the fact that there need to be multiple launchers now, and every few days Steam boots that out and I have to reconnect and reset everything including losing all my personalisations.

The one game I'd keep turning to was Forza Horizon 4 (on Game Pass) because it seemed to always run really nicely with no errors, until suddenly today the roads and grass started disappearing and then it would kick me to the pause screen and give me a "low bandwith" message, despite using an SSD and a Ryzen 9.

    -----

These are just a few of the frustrations I've had with gaming on PC. I really feel like whenever I sit down for some gaming I spend most of the time googling and debugging, and I'm really not having any fun. It's such a shame because I love sitting in front of the big curved monitor with a headset etc., it's really immersive. I want to give it just a little longer before I just give in and get an Xbox Series X.

Is this just how PC gaming is, is it my rig, or am I doing something wrong? I've been told by a few people that picking an AMD GPU was a mistake, though that card was recommended to me on this very sub, I have noticed a lot of issues I've googled have answers in nVidia's software but not AMD's (plus the nVidia I'd like to get is out of stock everywhere anyway), but surely not all the frustration I've been having seems to be a GPU thing.

Any advice would be appreciated greatly.

Monitor is an Acer Nitro 27inch XV272U Audio Interface is a Scarlett Focusrite 2i2 (Gen 1)

Describe your problem. List any error messages and symptoms. Be descriptive.

I built a new pc, and am getting some weird electronic / crackle / bullshit from my studio monitors (KRK Rokit 5s ran through a Scarlett 2i2) It's not the standard crackle / noise studio monitors normally give - it's some bizarre hellscape that is making me want to jump off a cliff. When there is no signal they emit this faint electrical crackle hum- when I run a normal signal, like music from Spotify etc. the sound quality of the music is fine but that faint bullshit is always there. It is consistently there as in It doesn't change with the gain, and if I completely pot the gain down all I'm left with is that noise. It almost sounds like a tiny electronic mosquito buzzing around.

It gets worse- If I load up any type of video game, for example WoW - the second I load into the game the KRKs make this sound like a muzzle of bees.

Obviously my first thought was that the KRKs are fucked - but I went back and tested everything on my 2012 iMac and everything works flawlessly - same settings, environment and power sources so I don't think it's a grounding issue. The XLR Cables are shielded, and like I said everything works fine on the iMac.

List anything you've done in attempt to diagnose or fix the problem.

I swear I've tried everything: it's not the XLR cables (i've tested them using a 3.5mm headphone jack to listen to the signal in the cable by putting the jack on the pins and it's super clear with no bullshit) it's not the audio interface (i've tried multiple interfaces and they all do the same thing.) I've updated every driver known to man, updated my BIOS. I've also tried changing every possible audio setting there is - sample rate, buffer size etc. I've switched USB ports, plugged stuff in the same power strip, and different power strips. I even tried changing the fans in the pc and doing some different cable management.

I'm assuming this is some kind of issue with the mobo or with windows or some setting in the BIOS im missing? I'm new to windows and PCs in general so any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Part Replacement Recommendations

    Posted: 11 Mar 2021 01:40 PM PST

Hi guys, I was wondering if we could have a quick discussion on what parts I need to replace if I plan or getting a 3080 (possible 3090) and a good motherboard to replace the B450. I don't mind saving money if parts are expensive, however I don't feel as though I need anything TOO extreme, I'm not sure why there are MOBOs over $800 but if someone wants to try and wrap my head around that I'm all ears. I've been using the MOBO and GPU for about a year now and to be quite frank, I'm a bit over all of the backscreens I've had and driver crashes. Let me know if I've missed something, thanks!

New Build Keeps Crashing, Need Help Diagnosing

    Posted: 11 Mar 2021 02:57 PM PST

    Hi everyone,

I recently built a new gaming pc but it's been having crashing issues that I can't seem to diagnose. When the crashes occur, the screen freezes for a moment, goes black, then the pc restarts itself.

At first the crashes only occurred while gaming with the XMP profile turned on. This led me to believe it was a memory issue, and a series of memtests had one stick failing repeatedly. While the other stick passed, the crashing still occurred while it was installed alone. I replaced the DRAM but the issues continued.

Now the crashes occur whether the XMP profile is on or not, and occasionally they'll happen while simply browsing the internet. My temps all seem fine--CPU idling at 40, GPU at 50, neither rising more than 10 or so degrees under heavy load--so I don't think it's an overheating issue. I ran a number of stress tests when the problems started up and the machine handled them without breaking a sweat, not sure what that means for the situation.

I've reinstalled windows and that hasn't helped either.

I'm not sure what to do next, any help is appreciated!

I don't know much about rgb vs argb, is there a certain type I should be getting?

Any recommendations? I want it to light up, and have control over the colors.

    Looking to order today.

    ryzen 5 3400g or 4650g ?

    Posted: 11 Mar 2021 04:54 AM PST

Good morning! I have a doubt about which one CPU I should choose. First, Im thinking about only playing with the APU,without getting a video card, and then aim for either a GTX 1650/1650 super or 1660/1660 Super. That said, i would like to know what cpu is better for my necessity ( considering ill use 2x8GB 3200Mhz RAM ). I know 4650G delivers a way beter perfomance CPU wise but i watched like 3 or 4 benchmarks comparing both and 3400G seems to give better perfomance with games and better fps. Thank you in advance!

Do I need SSDs other than the 970s I already have?

So I'm about to build my new PC and I have 2 TBs of Samsung EVO 970s, but, I see a lot of people buy those bigger looking SSDs for "storage", you know the ones. Western Drive or Firecuda and stuff like that, the ones with like 10 TBs of storage or something?

    Upgrade or build fresh?

    Posted: 11 Mar 2021 02:11 PM PST

Hey, I need my PC to run Adobe Illustrator pretty much exclusively. I don't understand exactly what kind of processing vector graphics require so I don't know if it depends on a good CPU or GPU more. My current rig is maybe 9 years old and my HDD is failing and Illustrator now warns me at startup that my graphics card is no longer supported. Do I buy a new card and SSD or should I look at building an entire new machine because other aging parts will soon become a problem? Budget is a major issue so I need it to be cheap but I don't want to be doing this again in 2 years.

    Crank Start Computer

    Posted: 11 Mar 2021 08:06 AM PST

I unplugged the power, and I was cleaning the cpu fan with a qtip. Plugged back in power supply it would not start. Now I have to spin the cpu fan above a certain rpm and hit the power button to get the computer to turn on. This only needs to be done after the power has been removed and replugged back in. Any ideas what is wrong or to do? I removed everything out of the case and it starts, but still need to throw the fan into the on position, lol.

Thanks to all of your help, I've finally been able to decide how I want to be able to upgrade my pc. So bassically instead of getting a gtx 1050ti, I'm getting a gtx 1650, I'm still getting the same psu and I'm getting 16gb of 3000mhz ram (dual channel) I've also decided since I'm not doing a cpu upgrade right now I'm going to not upgrade my mobo. Thank you all so much for your help!

Any differences between graphic card manufacturers?

    Posted: 11 Mar 2021 01:58 PM PST

Looking at card manufacturers, like PNY, EVGA, ASUS, etc, I see clock speed variations and styling, but are there differences in build quality between them that I am not seeing? Like, if I were to compare an EVGA 3080 and an ASUS 3080 with the same clock speeds, would there be any quality to these cards that would make someone definitely say one is better than the other?

Just trying to figure out if these exist. I am looking for a WWAN (LTE) card with WiFi built in since my laptop only has a single PCie slot and that has a WiFi card. I was going to replace it with an LTE WWAN card but I would lose WiFi.
