Examples of questions suitable for here:

    • Is this RAM compatible with my motherboard?
    • I'm thinking of getting a ≤$300 graphics card. Which one should I get?
    • I'm on a very tight budget and I'm looking for a case ≤$50

They had one last AMD RX 6900 XT in stock

Not pictured is the Ryzen 9 5900x

I'm so fucking excited to build this after work tomorrow.

EDIT: $1460 for the GPU - https://imgur.com/a/MZbKriB It's higher cause it comes overclocked out of the box, but also looks like they overbuild the cooling in the card to handle it. Will have to actually see the numbers once I'm done building to see if that $460 was worth it. Link to card on PowerColor website

Purchase was made at 5:37pm according to my receipt

Sold a graphics card a while back and now the buyer is wanting a refund because he never received the package? Advice please

    Posted: 04 Mar 2021 04:28 AM PST

So I sold my GPU on eBay several weeks ago. EBay held the funds from PayPal until the package was delivered to the buyer. once the tracking show delivered, eBay released the funds to me. Done deal. Then randomly, today I get an email from the buyer saying he never received the package. He also wants a full refund. I do not have the GPU. I don't know where it's at, I assumed it was delivered properly. I'm not saying this is the case, but I have heard of scams on eBay where the buyer will actually remove the GPU from the box, retape the box and put it back in the mailbox and say it's wrong address, and the package gets bounced around several times and then they file a refund claim. Anyways, not sure what is going on. Any advice would be appreciated

After 12+ of being a console gamer. I am officially part of the pcmasterrace!

    Posted: 04 Mar 2021 01:16 PM PST

After some troubles (see post on profile), I finally got my pc to work. Turns out the wires for the front panel connectors were loose. Corrected them and everything works! I wish I'd built this sooner, because pc gaming is much better than console by far.

Been gaming on consoles for my whole life. Have been wanting to build a PC for a few years, picked a hell of a time to do it. My 6 year old son is a huge gaming fan so he was more excited than me to get the parts and do the build.

Outside of gaming (Mainly FPS games), I'll really only be doing basic home computing tasks, editing video, maybe some streaming and running AutoCAD and Revit for work/hobby stuff. I went full overkill for my needs, just wanted to experience a high quality PC.

Luckily, I live within an hour of a Micro Center. Thanks to monitoring stock in Discord, I only ended up waiting in one line. Even snagged an MSI 3080 and returned it 2 days later for the EVGA for better brand reputation. They got a huge drop of 5900x a few weeks back, and that was the only part I really had to wait for. Managed to pay msrp for everything, except purchasing the card post-tariff.

Build went flawlessly. No taking apart anything. (I went back and rerouted the USB 3.0 cable after day 1, initial install of it had me nervous with the flex it had on the port) No issues at all. I've been watching videos and reading about it for years so I was well prepped. Fractal Define 7 made cable management very easy and I think I did a decent job for a first time builder.

This was a lot of fun and it's been interesting seeing what this machine is capable of. This forum was a great resource. Now time to learn how to play on mouse and keyboard.

I think I killed my motherboard

    Posted: 04 Mar 2021 05:43 AM PST

I have an ASUS P7P55D Pro motherboard I bought used quite cheap with an i5 760. While shorting the power pins to test it, I accidentally shorted them with one of the speaker pins above and saw sparks. The connectors have burn marks on them, and although there is still power going to the board as the LEDs on it light up, it can no longer turn on.

Did I kill it? I'm quite worried.

    Building/Booting Without cpu cooler

    Posted: 04 Mar 2021 07:36 AM PST

Hello! First I would like to say this community is awesome and you guys answers fast and kindly. Thank you very much

My last piece to come to delivery is the thermal paste but I have everything else.

Can I start building the pc without installing the cpu cooler, and can I boot windows while waiting ? Obviously putting the cooler just averted delivery and stoping at booting for now.

Or would you recommend to just wait because the trouble not worth it. ( I'll have the paste tomorrow or this evening even possibly)

I've got ventilators in the case ( fractal meshyfy c ). Thanks in advance !

Choosing a CPU for Graphic Design

    Posted: 04 Mar 2021 08:22 AM PST

Hey all, I'm building a machine for someone who will be using it almost exclusively for graphic design, and I'm trying to gauge CPUs. I'm looking around the $300 pricepoint, trying to decide between the 5600x and the 3700x.

Between these two, should I go for the faster clock speed or the extra cores?

    What GPU to upgrade too

    Posted: 04 Mar 2021 01:24 PM PST

I have a NVIDA GT 1030 and would like to upgrade to something better as it doesnt run that well with lots of mods and only has 2gb of VRAM so I was wondering what to get.

    Here are my stats:

    NVIDA GT1030

    AMD Ryzen 3 2200g

    16gb ram

    ASRock A320M-HDV R4.0

This was a very tight budget build at the time.

Also If I need to upgrade anything else to be able to run a better GPU please tell me what it is that needs to be upgraded.

    Ram: G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM 3600 (PC4 28800) Intel XMP 2.0 (heard these have high latency maybe? wanted heatsink)

Intend to add a hdd later for big storage, will need a foldable pcie x16 riser cable when I get a gpu bigger than 10" so it can move. Otherwise happy with that performance and won't be replacing to upgrade anytime soon,

please let me know if there's any better options while keeping at a similar price point, thanks.

Can I dust my PC with a sunglasses cloth?

    Posted: 04 Mar 2021 11:48 AM PST

Might sound dumb, but I've only had a pc for less than a couple months and it would only be a light dusting and it would t be on any electrical components.

Places I would dust would be bottom case, too if gpu (no components exposed), cpu fan, and case fans. Would it be okay to use one of these clothes to clean these areas?

Any potential issues with this build?

    Posted: 04 Mar 2021 01:20 PM PST

I'm looking to upgrade my CPU and RAM, and want to make sure I'm not running into compatibility issues. PCPartPicker says I shouldn't have any (maybe just need to update BIOS).

Right now I have a Ryzen 5 2600X, looking to do a significant upgrade to a 3900x, and upgrading my 2x8 G.Skill Ripjaw DDR4-2400 to Corsair Vengeance LPX 4x8GB DDR4-3200.

    The Build:

I'll be upgrading to a better graphics card sometime in the next 100 years when prices start to go down again.

Does this seem pretty solid? Any glaring issues that I'm missing with this build?

Need help choosing out best fan/AIO for a new build with specific issues!

    Posted: 04 Mar 2021 01:17 PM PST

    Hi all,

as the title says, I'm putting together a new system with the following parts:

    - Revolv X case

    - 5950X (slight OC)

    - Gigabyte Aorus Xtreme X570

    - 4x16GB Neo Z

    - 3090 gfx card (not sure which yet, waiting to find one)

    - Revolt X 1200 W

    - no extra hard drives or SSDs, jsut a couple of NVMEs on the mobo

My build will be a little tricky because for specific spacing issues I will be attempting to have the case on its side horizontally (with some extra rubber feet so that the right panel doesn't touch my desk.

So, given all that, and the fact that I want to find the right balance between airflow and noise, what would you recommend for cooling?

I'm thinking of using 3X120 fans in the front, a 360 rad on top and a 140 fan in the back. Since my case will be horizontal, would that be the ideal config?

Also, which 360 AIO and fans do you recommend for this setup?

    Thanks a lot!

Need help with my first PC build (4th repost)

    Posted: 04 Mar 2021 01:15 PM PST

Hi all, I'm new to reddit and don't really know what I'm doing here so please don't judge me. So anyway, I'm thinking of building my first pc. I've been on a laptop for a while, and the specs aren't keeping up with my new monitor (my monitor is 1080p 240fps and I only get around 120fps at best all low in SOME games) so I've decided to build a pc. Just to be informed I have all the peripherals I need and just need the pc. I will be using my current laptop as a streaming pc (once I get a capture card) and will be doing light video editing, gaming and possibly a little coding later on. Current Parts list: Ryzen 7 5800x | RTX 3070 FE | 32gb Ram (4x8gb configuration) | Aorus B550 Master | Samsung 970 evo plus 1tb | NZXT H510 elite | NZXT Kraken x63 | A Corsair or NZXT 850W PSU

Not sure if my cpu is good enough (or overkill) or if it would bottleneck my pc, and is it worth saving up to get a 3080? Also any recommendations on other parts would be greatly appreciated.

    External SSD Issue

    Posted: 04 Mar 2021 01:04 PM PST

Hey everone, I've got an 1TB external SSD with a SS connector. When I plugin my SSD, it reads fine, but when downloading, the drive seems to crash. When I download anything over the speed of 5.6 mb/s, the drive crashes including the ability for my mouse and keyboard to function, and sometimes the whole pc. When I stay below 5.6mb/s. The drive writing works fine. Reading all works fine too at high speeds but once again the writing crashes.

Does anyone know what this issue maybe and how I could fix this? Could it be due to a faulty cable?
