Dog piss leaked through a small hole in the ceiling - happened to be right above where my PC was. 2080 Ti is toast, please help me save the rest

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 10:07 PM PST

My dog peed in the kitchen this morning while I was showering, didn't really think much of it at first even though it was quite a big puddle. I then go down to the basement where my PC sits, and on the edge of the desk I instantly notice and smell dog pee that sprayed everywhere, basically another puddle worth of it. Then I look and see there's a tiny holy in the floor that a nail must have used to been and by some 1 in a million chance it was directly above where my PC sits and literally landed all over the top of my tower; and I could see it sprayed all over the glass and inside of the components. I knew it was fucked that instant, the 2080 Ti was soaked right in all the parts that mattered. I just bought it and build this PC about 6 months ago, whole build was worth around $2400 I believe.

With that said, I think that the graphic card might have took the most of the damage. There still some dried up pee stains that I can see kinda just flew everywhere when it hit the card and it got on like the shells of the SSD and ram and stuff but the CPU seems fine. The computer still turns on and runs and sounds quiet as normal, nothing would occur to be different. The main problem is there is no display now, I took the GPU out and plugging the monitor into the HDMI port on the back still doesn't make anything pop up. The monitor just says no signal and then turns off. Can I still possibly use the intel integrated graphics? I have no idea how to access bios now or what to do but it does seem like the PC should still work otherwise. So any advice how to go about after this shitty unlucky situation would be appreciated, thank you.

Edit: can people stop messaging me saying I need to take better care of my dog? Today has been shitty enough and I already commented what happened down below If u also feel like saying that. Btw - the PC was already on when the pee got into it, it was idling for a few hours before hand

    I had completely given up...

    Posted: 03 Mar 2021 07:38 AM PST

Like many others here, I'd completely given up on grabbing a 30 series GPU.

Cut to a few nights ago.
Woke up at 4 am to get water.
Checked a couple of hardware sites.
    Nearly dropped said water.
    "IN STOCK"?!

And now here I am, can't believe I managed to nab a 3070!

To anyone in the UK still searching, this seems to be proof of what I had been reading - that restocks tend to happen around this time...

Upgraded my DP cable and no more screen flickering

    Posted: 03 Mar 2021 07:23 AM PST

I have an AW3418DW with a 3080. For the longest time my screen would flicker on and off randomly. Sometimes every half hour to an hour sometimes every 5 minutes. It was connected via a CableMod DP 1.2 (I believe) cable. I thought it was the monitor first, then I thought it was the gpu, then I thought it was the driver.

Yesterday I purchased a DP 1.4 cable from Amazon. Not a single flicker. So happy right now since the flickering would occur during games or even just browsing the desktop. Totally worth 20 bucks

Why is there a shadow of dust around where my fan exhausts air? Since air is being pushed out wouldn't it make more sense that dust won't settle in that area?

    Posted: 03 Mar 2021 12:34 PM PST

pic I feel like my PC is breaking the laws of physics. I have a fan exhausting air through the top of my case and my PC is on 24/7. Why is there a shadow of dust exactly in the shape of the fan below? If air is constantly being moved through that area, my engineering degree tells me dust should not settle. Can anyone help me solve this mystery?

    Used CPUs yes or no?

    Posted: 03 Mar 2021 04:57 AM PST

Is getting a used CPU a bad idea? Just looking to upgrade on a budget. It would obviously depend but how used is too used? I'm thinking of a ryzen 5 3600

High CPU temps with 2 different liquid coolers

    Posted: 03 Mar 2021 09:36 AM PST

    Hi all,

Hoping someone can help me out. My research has been unsuccessful.

After cleaning my case with compressed air in the garage, my CPU temps started to spike upwards of 60 degrees Celsius through even the smallest of tasks. Even opening a web browser will get me above 60. I was getting RPM in both the fan and pump but something was clearly wrong.

Thinking the radiator was broken or something, I got a brand new liquid cpu cooler only to find temps doing the exact same thing

Starting a simple steam download gets 50% cpu usage on a Ryzen 7 5800x and cpu temp to hit 70 degrees.

At this point I have no idea what the culprit is. I've checked and re-done the thermal paste several times but it hasn't helped. I'm starting to fear something is wrong with the processor.

Hoping someone here has an idea. If not, are there some more details I should provide? Appreciate the help, I'm at my wits end.

EDIT: Apparently these temps are normal. Not sure why I was getting considerably lower temps before but it sounds like I don't have anything to worry about. Thank you all!

Build with a 3600 while waiting on the 5900x to be back in stock?

    Posted: 03 Mar 2021 11:54 AM PST

Hello. I've put together a 5900x-based build, but of course the CPU has been sold out everywhere. Would it make sense to put together the same system with a Ryzen 5 3600 ($200) while I wait?

    Potential build is:

    Gigabyte X570 AORUS ELITE motherboard

    G.Skill Trident Z Neo 32 GB ram

Samsung 970 Evo 500 GB M.2-2280 system drive

    Windows 10 pro

Looking for advice/tips before my first build

    Posted: 03 Mar 2021 01:51 PM PST

Hello Community!Monday I will be getting all the parts (I think) to build my first PC! I am both excited and nervous at this prospect. As I anxiously await the arrival of my parts I had a question! What hiccups can I expect with this process? Here's the list of what I'm using:

    - Ryzen 5 5600x

    - RTX 3060 Ti

    - MasterLiquid ML120L V2 RGB

    - Gigabyte X570 UD Motherboard

    - Western Digital WD Blue SN500 NVMe SSD

    - Crucial 2x8GB DDR4-3200 RAM kit

    - NZXT 750W 80 Plus Gold Power Supply

    - Corsair 220T RGB case

Now I know I need to do the flashback on the motherboard before I put the CPU in it, and to test parts before I start installing in the case. Am I missing anything else major that complete newbies like me may overlook? Many thanks for reading :)

Suffering huge performance problems recently with RTX 2080 Super

    Posted: 03 Mar 2021 01:45 PM PST

Hello, I've recently been suffering huge performance problems with games that my computer used to have no problem running, but only in specific places. Such as CSGO matchmaking running at bad FPS (like 80), but playing against bots runs at a more expected framerate (200+).

Here is a link to my CPU-Z validator: https://valid.x86.fr/7wr1sj

Does anyone have any insight as to what the problem might be? I was noticing some things like the GPU line says " NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER (TU104-450) @ 300 MHz" and 300 MHz seems quite low but I don't know why or how I might fix that.

Computer was running fine a few months ago and nothing has really changed since, except that I moved house. So my only thought is something has potentially come loose but not so badly that the computer no longer works.

    low wattage gpu

    Posted: 03 Mar 2021 07:43 AM PST

My dad bought me a prebuilt pc. here is the model: https://www.acer.com/ac/nl/BE/content/model/DT.BEWEH.00C

I would like to upgrade the graphics card of the pc. But since the powersupply is only 180 watt i'm afraid there is no gpu that can work. I found a low wattage gpu: the gt 1030 which only uses 30 watt. Do you think this one will work on my 180 watt psu? If not, does anyone know a replacement for the powersupply that fits in this small pc and has the right connectors? This is my first pc ever so i dont know a lot about this. Also i'm not sure if this is the right subreddit to ask this. If this is the wrong subreddit to ask this, could you maybe link me the right one? Thank you in advance

New build, no power. Please help :(

    Posted: 03 Mar 2021 11:25 AM PST

    Hi everyone,

So this evening I put together my PC and after fitting it into the case (I know, rookie mistake. Should've tried to power on on the MB box) I hit the power button but nothing happened. No beep, power supply makes no noise, nothing. The socket definitely works.

    Pics of the connected cables

    This is my part list.

I haven't connected any of the SSDs or fans (other than the CPU one).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance!

Can I mix 4 sticks of ram with 2 different speeds?

    Posted: 03 Mar 2021 01:30 PM PST

Long story short, I bought 2 things of ram of what I thought were the same (same brand, packaging, etc) (Corsair Vengeance Pro). Each is 2x16 gb. However one is 3200mhz and the other is 3000mhz. Will this cause any problems within the pc?

    Troubleshooting Help:

What is your parts list? Consider formatting your parts list.

    https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/frDzgt

    CPU intel i7 6700k

Mobo Asus Sabertooth Z170 Mark 1

PSU: Corsair HX Full Modular 650

    has no graphic card.

    memory 32GB

storage: Adata 64 GB 2.5 SSD

    optical drive: asus dvd writer.

Describe your problem. List any error messages and symptoms. Be descriptive.

Computer does not POST sometimes. This morning I had to turn on and off computer 3 times for it to boot into Windows. Also USB problems.

    This morning:

Attempt 1: No POST. power to keyboard, to card reader, to optical drive. No power to usb wired mouse.

Attempt 2: Press power, similar to Attempt 1. Computer shut off by itself. Then restart by itself. similar to Attempt 1. At this point I manually shut off the computer via power bar/surge protector. Push the power bar to on, computer power up without pushing the power button of the case. No POST. similar to attempt 1.

Attempt 3: POST, but says please press f1 to enter bios to restore bios settings. Pressed f1 and did not do anything, press f10. Boot into Windows.

Even when booted into Windows 10 (Pro edition), the computer is extremely slow.

Yesterday I was using Zoom, and once I put in the Corsair Void usb cable to recharge the VOID wirless earphone, the mouse cursor was gone. I restarted and the computer said usb overcurrent detected, please restart. I restarted and the mouse cursor was still gone. But once I disconnected the usb cable, the mouse cursor came back.

Fans at full speed during boot then go quiet after a few seconds.

    Posted: 03 Mar 2021 01:13 PM PST

So on my motherboard there are qleds to identify problems during boot(b450-f). Now whenever I turn on the pc there is this orange light that stays static for around 4 seconds and during those 4 seconds the pc fans go max power (sicko mode). After the 4 seconds pass the light changes to a red colour and then white colour, which is then proceeded by a yellow colour which boots up the pc with the asus logo. Now I'm confused on how to turn this delay off and how to make the fans less loud on boot. Also it would be appreciated if you could explain why the LEDs flash before booting.

    AMD combo or Intel+Nvidia

    Posted: 03 Mar 2021 12:59 PM PST

Hi guys, I wanted to ask if I should go for an amd cpu and gpu combo or for an intel+nvidia, I've had r7 2700x with rtx 2070 witch im going to give to my mom for her job.Ill keep the rtx 2070, and pair the rig with a 1060 instead. My budget is 800$ for the build (without the gpu), I was planning on getting an i9 9900k with rtx 3080. But then i thought i could go for the full amd build with resize bar feature. I know ryzen cpus are better but they have more cores with lower speeds, I personally play cs:go competitively and I see that intel outperforms ryzen in that game by alot (intel also sponsors all csgo LCS games), I only play cs:go , league, valorant. I don't play new or new gen games, my priority is high fps and low input delay (i have an 240hz monitor). So guys it would really help me out if you would recommend anything. I've been planning this build for 2 months now, becouse my moms 6 years old iMac is literally donkey ass and I cant reinstall ios becouse she lost the password. Anyways guys please let me know as I sayd ill be building a pc with no gpu and putting my rtx 2070 currently, then ill sell it and probably buy a 3070/3080.

    In my country i9 9900k is 415$, while r5 5600x is 420$
