[Giveaway] CPU/AIO Combo w/ Cooler Master x Buildapc! Posted: 02 Mar 2021 12:58 PM PST Good day champions, Beardman here... So Cooler Master went through a rough breakup (thanks Intern Terry), and because of this we decided we needed to pick ourselves up and stop moping. We thought, "We have to take control of our life!" and so we did. We've rebranded! New day new me-- err new us! Yeah! Jokes aside, Cooler Master has rebranded to be more cool-- we didn't think it possible either. To kick off this rebrand we've partnered with Intel to giveaway an i9 10900k and the ML360 SUB-ZERO to one lucky winner. Additionally, there will also be a clone of this giveaway on our Discord, but with different entry requirements. So, shall I stop prattling on and get to it? Yes, I shall. How about something lighthearted? We've just completed the 2nd month of 2021 and we seem mostly okay so far. Let's try to continue that trend. To enter the giveaway we just need 3 things! Spruce up anything you can think of with our new colors found here. Then, just let us know what kind of swag/merch you'd like to see. Figuratively, the sky's the limit. Lastly, just fill out this form. Prize
How to enter!
Other Stuff That We Have to Include or We'll get Silly Questions Left and Right. Boy, This Header Sure is Long.

Teacher Looking to Buy PCs for my Esports Program Posted: 02 Mar 2021 06:15 AM PST I am looking to buy PCs to get our School Esports Program started. We are looking to run League of Legends, Overwatch, Rocket League, Fortnite, Smite, and Valorant. The machines will have a dual purpos of also being used for photo editing with our graphic design program. I have tried shopping around and have talked to different sellers. The best offer I can tell money wise and with what I have to spend is 5 of these machines: DELL Precision 7810 Workstation Tower, Xeon E5-2637 V3 Quad Core 360GB SSD 16GB DDR4 (4GBx4) 825W Power Supply Microsoft Windows 10 Professional COA Refurbisher - PC Registered Refurbisher Community GTX 1050 Ti Video Cards & Video Devices DirectX 12 GTX 1050 Ti TF4G 4GB 128-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 Standard ATX Video Card Gaming Graphics Card GTX 1050TI GPU w/1yr warranty The seller offers a life time warranty on all parts minus the video card. Am I getting a good deal or should I keep shopping? Are the current parts good enough to do all of the things I mentioned above? Edit: Prices are $250 a machine, $235 per video card I apologise for not posting earlier. Edit2: My budget is $3000 we are just buying PCs as we have monitors to reuse. Edit3: The games are determined by the league. I see a lot of suggestions to add games but that is not my call unfortunately. [link] [comments] |
Accidentally bought a picture of a 3060 ti (ebay) Posted: 01 Mar 2021 08:22 PM PST Self explanatory title. I was browsing ebay looking for a graphics card, I saw a 3060 ti with a buyout price that I felt wasn't insane and impulsively bought it only checking the specs (which were filled out to suggest a real graphics card) and not the description. Later after the money was taken out of my bank account I realized what I had actually paid for. Am I screwed or is there a way to get my money back? I paid with PayPal through ebay. any recommendations for this shitty market Posted: 02 Mar 2021 11:20 AM PST my laptop is going out so i need a computer for school and gaming. ive been looking into parts for months now and now that i have saved up enough money, the current gpu market has become impossible to deal with. here is what i think i can do: buy another laptop with poor value and performance get a prebuilt desktop without the benefits of building it myself along with subpar value keep trying in this market until i find a gpu for sale at a fair price (which will take months that i probably dont have) save money by building with an apu and buying a gpu later (prefer amd which leaves limited options) find a very cheap budget gpu and upgrade later (i have had lots of trouble finding budget gpus at their intended value) here are some extra notes: i only play fps esports titles at 1080p and dont require high refresh rates but would eventually like to make the jump to 144hz (important because gpu market is very limited) current budget is around $1000us but would be willing to spend more if i can find value in it i would like to go itx formfactor (i know this complicates things greatly so it definitely isnt necessary) any recommendations would be helpful and feel free to suggest other options. thx [link] [comments] |

Posted: 02 Mar 2021 10:38 AM PST When i was playing Apex Legends my pc just shut down and then it didnt turn on. And it smelled like something burned. Is it possible to fix it ? Or my pc just got destroyed ? [link] [comments] |
Trying to build a pc for ~$1,100 Posted: 02 Mar 2021 10:39 AM PST Hey everyone, I've been working a pc parts list and though it would be a good idea to get some feedback. I'm trying to stay as close to $1,100 as possible (although I'm already over budget with my current list). I chose a CPU (Ryzen 5 3400g) with integrated graphics because I have no idea how long it will be before I'm able to get my hands on a GPU, and I want to be able to play some games. Parts List: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Q38MdD Any and all feedback is greatly appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Best monitor for Offline gaming?❓ Posted: 02 Mar 2021 01:21 PM PST I have XL2546 and i hate TN panels. I don't want to play online games anymore, so what's the good option for solo offline games ?❓ [link] [comments] |
Do I need to use an external power source for a GTX 1650 GPU? Posted: 02 Mar 2021 08:01 AM PST For reference I am using a MSI B550 Gaming Edge WiFi Motherboard. The instruction manual for the MoBo does not say the slot outputs 75w however I know it outputs at least 30w as my current GT 1030 is powered happily. If I do plug in a 6 pin (which is what is on the 1650) and have it plugged into the MoBo, can I over power the GPU? I apologise if this is an obvious question, this is my first build and if I don't need to plug the GPU into my PSU then I won't worry about it. [link] [comments] |
Completely unable to use my brand new PC Posted: 02 Mar 2021 01:20 PM PST I have just recently finished building my pc but I'm unable to use it since my Acer Nitro XZ2 won't recognize it and just says "No Signal" on both the DP and HDMI, and I've tried both in the GPU and MB inputs. Once I got on a call with Acer support agents they said that I'd have to plug it into a TV to access the Nvidia drivers and adjust the GPU resolution to make sure it works with the monitor. I also contacted my friend and he said to test the Xbox I have to see if it works with the monitor, which it did. The connection won't run through the tv and the pc and after a Google search it said if the connection may not work because the resolution doesn't the resolution of the tv, but I need a monitor to adjust that but my fucking monitor doesn't work. I'm at a complete loss of what to do. This is my first time building a pc and thought that I could just boot up my pc and be ready to go. [link] [comments] |
Any advice on GPU purchasing during this mayhem Posted: 02 Mar 2021 11:26 AM PST So i foolishly decided to build my first PC at the worst possible time, Ive already bought a r5 5600x and b550 steel legend and a 27" 1440p 140hz monitor without realizing how messed up GPU prices are. Originally I wanted a 3070 but with the way things are looking that seems impossible my budget is between 600-750 i saw some 1660ti on ebay around that price range (ouch) so my question is should I settle for an overpriced 1660ti? Currently playing on an Asus laptop with i7-8750H, 16gb ram, 1050 mobile. Do i wait it out and sit on the parts Ive bought for a year or more? Feeling pretty lost and frustrated at this point and just want advice on moving forward [link] [comments] |

Posted: 02 Mar 2021 12:26 PM PST This is my 1st build and everything is set up correctly and turns on. We hooked it up to a monitor and bios settings did show up but then we saved and restarted and now bios won't show up anymore. Do we have to just install the windows USB or is that an actual problem? First time builder here. Any suggestions about my parts list? Posted: 02 Mar 2021 12:26 PM PST Hey, just put together my parts list. I have bought the 5600x but are still up for changes on the other parts. The exact 3060ti does not matter to me, I likely will be buying whatever I can in the current climate. I am expecially unsure about the Mobo & PSU choice. I know very little about motherboards in general. I would say my main concern with building is breaking a part, especially something like the CPU pins. I will try my uttermost to be careful, how worried in general should I be with ruining expensive hardware as a novice? Thanks for your time! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Mar 2021 03:10 AM PST I recently set up a PLEX server online. I would like to build a server dedicated to streaming that I can leave on and streams well. I have no idea what the criteria for building a good streaming server would be? Has anyone done this before or have any good advice? [link] [comments] |
Mixing Memory DIMMS: No OC, no XMP - will it work? Posted: 02 Mar 2021 12:11 PM PST I have 2x8GB of Trident Z memory DDR4-3200C16D-16GTZ, i5-6600 CPU, Mobo and related gear from a machine I just upgraded. I want to use them on a home server under Win 10 Pro. My concern is memory. With only 16GB, I would prefer to have 32GB for VM use. The timings on the modules I have are CL16-16-16-36 @ 1.35v These modules from GSkill are no longer produced, The closest thing from Trident under the same part number is 16-16-16-38 @1.35v. It looks the same, has the same part number, but isn't quite the same. It's also quite expensive to buy. If I have to get a module that isn't exactly the same, I'd prefer to spend less, frankly. And spending half that amount seems like a better plan. I want to expand the memory on this Mobo to 32GB. I would like to add Corsair Vengeance 2 x 8GB DDR4 3200 with timings of 16-18-18-36 @ 1.35v as they are currently cheap and on sale. I don't care what speed this runs at. I'll clock it all to the lower timings or whatever I need to do to get it to work. This is for a home server application under Windows 10 Pro, non-critical task. Is this a realistic expectation? Can I get these 4 DIMMS to play nicely with one another? Mobo which will be used is an Asus Z170 Pro Gaming. Both memory modules are on the QVL for this mobo. [link] [comments] |
I accidentally forgot to open up the CPU latch while fitting in my ryzen. Will it be a problem? Posted: 02 Mar 2021 11:59 AM PST I am currently building a PC with 3400g and Asrock A320m-hdv r4.0. I forgot to open up the latch and slid in my ryzen chip anyway. Now I'm worried that I've accidentally broken something. I've already installed the CPU Cooler so it'll take time for me to check it. Will the latch cause a problem? Will I end up with bent pins on my CPU? [link] [comments] |
GTX 1070 beginning to run at high temps when in idle Posted: 02 Mar 2021 01:43 PM PST Hi, Recently my GTX 1070 has begun running abnormally at high temps while idling. I noticed last week while working when I checked the temps on it that it had been idling in the high 30s-40s range. It has never run that high previously since I originally bought it in 2016 as it would sit in the low to mid-30s regardless of if it was OC'd. I left it alone for the rest of the week to see if it was just a random blip, but the same issue continued to re-occur, even getting up to the high-40s. I took the card out and disassembled it last weekend to see if there was an issue with the last thermal paste application I did on the card last year (been pretty vigilant about that since the warranty expired in 2019). Lo and behold, the paste was all over the place not just on the die itself, looked like I used too much last time. Cleaned up the mess completely with alcohol pads and fabric cloth, and re-applied a new coating using less paste this time. Since Saturday I've noticed not only has the issue not improved, but it seems to have worsened. Today I noticed that the temperature continued to gradually climb, getting as high as the mid-50s when sitting idle, and just before I posted this the card was about to tip over into the 60s. Is anyone able to provide any insight into what's going on here? I'm starting to suspect the last driver update may have screwed something up with my card as this has never happened before, at least not to my knowledge. TL;DR GPU running as high as high-50s to low-60s now in idle issue has never happened previously. [link] [comments] |

PSU for RTX 3090 and Core i9-10900K Posted: 02 Mar 2021 01:25 PM PST EDIT: 3090 and Core i9-10850K Given the shortage of cards, I'm forced to buy a prebuilt PC for my gaming. I managed to preorder https://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product/hp-omen-30l-desktop-pc-intel-core-i9-10850k-1tb-ssd-32gb-ram-geforce-rtx-3090-english/15200608 and I have 2 days to cancel the order. I am concerned with the PSU as it is only 750w. Can I get away with this PSU or do I have to upgrade the PUS? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
How can I have peripherals in separate room from PC, wirelessly? Posted: 02 Mar 2021 01:25 PM PST Hello :) Looking for some suggestions on how to use my computer from a separate room. Partner and I have a 'gaming' room where our desks sit next to each other. I record videos, and am limited to recording when partner is not around (no background noise). I am hoping to find a solution that will allow me to record from another room wirelessly, without moving my entire setup. I'm aware I could go the route of long-ass HDMI cables, but wanted to see if there was another option out there (without costing a crazy amount). Very much appreciate any suggestions or feedback provided - thank you! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Mar 2021 01:23 PM PST I have a Lenovo laptop with Ryzen 7 4700, integrated Radeon graphics, 8gb of ram and 512gb ssd. Should I buy a 144hz monitor? If I do buy it will the game be smoother? I don't know much about hertz but isn't only the screen that makes it smooth or not? [link] [comments] |
