REMINDER: Update your Windows Display settings when upgrading to higher refresh rate monitor!

    Posted: 15 Nov 2020 05:54 AM PST

Hey everyone, friendly reminder to update your Display Settings in Windows when you are upgrading your monitor to 144hz, 165hz, etc...

I have talked to three different friends now who have recently upgraded to a 144 or 165hz monitor and told me they didn't really notice a difference in performance from their old 60hz monitor. After some troubleshooting I noticed that in each case, these friends had their monitors Screen refresh rate still set to 60hz in Windows.

If you search in Windows for "Displaying Settings" and select that option you will scroll down and see a hyperlink called "Advanced display settings". This menu will have a dropdown to select your monitor(s). Click on "Display adapter properties for Display 1(or 2)" and then click the "Monitor" tab and you can update the Screen refresh rate to your new monitors refresh rate. Now you will see the true improvement of your upgraded monitor!

Also don't forget to update your Max FPS in your games to the new refresh rate so that you can experience all of the frames.

    Happy gaming!

I heard my boyfriend talking with his friends about what they would do for a "3090." I want to get one for him but don't know where to start?

    Posted: 15 Nov 2020 12:41 PM PST

How feasible is this when he already has a built PC? I looked it up and there seems like a lot of options but I dont know how to pick one or if they need to be compatible with his PC. I'm hoping y'all could help me out! Bonus question, would you like this as a gift or would you rather pick one out for yourself?

    Thanks 😊

PC for 1080p 60Hz gaming on high settings

    Posted: 15 Nov 2020 07:38 AM PST

Hey guys, Im looking for a PC that can handle 1080p 60Hz at very high to ultra settings with high FPS. I will mostly play shooters like Call of Duty or Battlefield or singleplayer games like The Witcher or Assassins Creed Valhalla but I would also like to play some new more graphic intense games like Cyberpunk 2077 on at least medium settings. It would also be nice if the PC could handle an upgrade of my monitor to 144Hz. I especially need help with the selection of the cpu and gpu. My budget lies around 800€ (~950 USD).

    Appreciate your help!

GTX 1660TI needs 8 pin connector, I only have a 6 pin connector.

    Posted: 15 Nov 2020 11:19 AM PST

I just bought the GTX 1660TI and I'm doing the step up program. My plan was to use this card while I wait for more 3070s to come in. Only issue is that my old GPU only used the 6pin power connecter and I can't find an 8pin in my case anywhere, so I assume my PSU doesn't have an 8pin connecter. I found an adapter on amazon for like 8 bucks that'll connect to me 6 pin and make it an 8 pin, but I'm not sure if this is a good idea. I'm fairly certain my PSU is 500w which is rated enough for my 1660, but is low for the 3070. I'm assuming that I should go ahead and drop a hundred bucks on a new 650w PSU, but I wanted yalls advice first.

Temperature AMD Ryzen 5 5600X + AMD Wraith Prism

    Posted: 15 Nov 2020 12:47 PM PST

I was on a budget for my PC build and the cooler I could afford was a unused second-hand Wraith Prism because I really didn't want to use the included Wraith Stealth cooler.

Now I have it installed on a Ryzen 5 5600X CPU and get temperatures from 45-65 while idling, watching videos, and browsing and between 75 and 85 degrees while gaming. And now I wonder if these are normal temperatures for this configuration?

How to put old drives to new computer but format old drives and put windows on new drive.

    Posted: 15 Nov 2020 12:32 PM PST

I'm not sure what flair to put but discussion works fine, but any way my older 1060 I5 8400 build decided to crap on me a few days ago not really sure why.

I think my HDD and SSD still work fine. I'm going to be making a new build and put a 1TB nvme in it but I still want to use my old drives. The thing is I want to format my old drives since I didn't have anything important on them, but from everything I've seen it says to format the old drives on the old pc and put them in the new pc but my old pc donuts work. I'm not really sure how to go about this since I want to install windows on my new nvme drive and just use my old ssd to put some games on it. Sorry for not being able to explain it that well. Forgot to mention the old ssd has an os on it

    Upgrading PC for Cyberpunk 2077

    Posted: 15 Nov 2020 12:29 PM PST

    Hey team,

I've finally convinced my girlfriend to let me upgrade my computer. I'm getting Cyberpunk whenever it comes out and while I meet the minimum requirements I want to play it more to it's potential as a next gen game.

My current specs are: GTX 960 Intel i5 4700 (something close to that) Asus motherboard 8GB RAM 500gb hard drive 240gb SSD

Recommended specs for Cyberpunk are: GTX 1060 6GB Intel i7 4790 12 GB Ram 70 GB SSD

I built this PC in 2011 and I need to know the parts that are worth upgrading to now. I have a budget of $700-800 and I know that I could get the requirements for $500ish.

Is the 1660 super a good choice? Is an i9 9700k good or worth it over the i7?

There's a possibility I do want to stream in the future but if it's not realistic within budget I don't need to.

I appreciate your help and will be active to answer anymore questions about my questions.

    Much love

$1000 pc for max performance(for gaming) and I am a beginner so I don’t know a lot about how to choose parts.

    Posted: 15 Nov 2020 09:05 AM PST

If someone could direct me with what parts I should be buying, I am mostly looking to play games with as much fps as possible because I like playing competitive games. I don't really care about how it looks (don't want to spend money on rgb and stuff). I am kind of lost right now in an ocean of advices I could find on the internet and I would love some help.

Looking to upgrade GPU (and maybe CPU)

    Posted: 15 Nov 2020 01:20 PM PST

As it's getting to christmas and with the release of the new AMD cards I feel like it is a good time to upgrade my GPU and maybe CPU if it is worth.

I'm looking to stay with AMD products (just personal preference) and get a GPU that will hold a ~70fps at 1440p, medium-high settings, for Cyberpunk and the new games coming up.

Budget for GPU around £400, willing to go a bit higher.

Which upgrade kit should I get?

    Posted: 15 Nov 2020 01:08 PM PST

    Hey everyone!

I have been saving up to upgrade my PC. I came across some Upgrade kits on sale at the moment and I was wondering what you think would be the best option!

    Upgrade kit 1: - GIGABYTE Z490 GAMING X motherboard - Intel i9-10850K processor - 16 GB DDR4-3200 memory kit - be quiet! Dark Rock 4 CPU-koeler - Marvel's Avengers game

    Price = €600

    Upgrade kit 2: - ASRock Z490 Steel Legend motherboard - Intel i7-10700K processor - 16 GB DDR4-3200 memory kit - be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 CPU-cooler

    Price = 630

Maybe it is a no-brainer but because the prices are so similar I thought I could use some advice!

    Thank you

Building <$1800 build for friend. Ideally run Cyberpunk 2077 with high setting.

    Posted: 15 Nov 2020 12:51 PM PST

What is your intended use for this build? The more details the better.

Building this for my roommate for gaming. Mostly WoW and CSGO. Want to play Cyberpunk and new games at high settings for the next ~5 years. My build is currently around $1300. If I can build the computer for that much, great. If I can improve it for a few hundred dollars, also great.

I strongly prefer Intel processors, but given that AMD's price/power is so much better, I figured I would go with AMD.

What is your budget (ballpark is okay)?

    ~$1800

In what country are you purchasing your parts?

    USA

Post a draft of your potential build here**

    https://pcpartpicker.com/list/7sZDZZ

I know 3070s will not be available for a while. I plan to get one for roughly $500 when available.

Asus ROG Strix B550-F Gaming vs Asus TUF Gaming X570-Plus Wifi

    Posted: 15 Nov 2020 02:39 PM PST

I'm building a pc w a ryzen 5 3600x, gtx 1080, 16 gb 3600 cl18 ram, and 500gb nvme, and I'm debating which motherboard to get. Which one is more future proof and will last me longer? Current price is 230$ for the tuf one and 219 for the ROG. The TUF one has wifi tho and I'll be needing that. So is it worth it to get the ROG one and buy an external wifi card or should I go for the TUF one. Thanks a lot! (All prices are CAD)
