    Simple Questions - November 04, 2020

    Posted: 04 Nov 2020 04:11 AM PST

This thread is for simple questions that don't warrant their own thread (although we strongly suggest checking the sidebar and the wiki before posting!). Please don't post involved questions that are better suited to a [Build Help], [Build Ready] or [Build Complete] post. Examples of questions:

    • Is this RAM compatible with my motherboard?
    • I'm thinking of getting a GTX 1070. Which one should I get?
    • I'm on a very tight budget and I'm looking for a case < $50

Remember that Discord is great places to ask quick questions as well: http://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/wiki/livechat

Important: Downvotes are strongly discouraged in this thread. Sorting by new is strongly encouraged.

My NASA themed PC build is complete!

    Posted: 03 Nov 2020 08:13 PM PST

I've always been a fan of space exploration and aviation. I figured this was a way to combine my hobby of PCs building and aviation.

It was an exhausting project, but it's finally complete.

    Specs:

    • AMD Ryzen 9 3900X
    • MSI RTX 3080 Gaming X Trio
    • Corsair Vengeance Pro 64 GB DDR4-3200
    • ASUS PRIME X570-PRO
    • Corsair RM750X PSU
    • 6x Corsair LL 120 fans
    • Corsair 465X case
    • Corsair H100i Platinum RGB AIO

    Pics of the build: http://imgur.com/gallery/9JKodew

EDIT: Guys I couldn't fit the AIO in any other configuration. I tried top mounted and it couldn't clear my RAM and I tried with the tubes down with a front mount and it couldn't clear my GPU. The position that the AIO is currently in is the only way it can fit unfortunately :( On the bright side my CPU temps are good

Help! GPU recommendation as a gift from someone who has no clue...

    Posted: 04 Nov 2020 10:29 AM PST

Hi all, hope you are all doing well.

I'm trying to buy a GPU for my SO. I got this information about their current build from device manager (sorry if it's too much/too little info) Computer: ACPI x 64 based PC Display: Nvidia Geforce GTX 980 Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 3700x 8 core processor.

I want to spend around $250-$350 on a new display card.

I know they love playing World of Warcraft and wanted to be able to set the display setting in game go "Ultra"

Can anyone recommend a good GPU? I read AMD radeon 5700xt, but I'm super confused by all the brands (MSI, sapphire, PKY ect ect)

    Thank you!!!

My motherboard burned near to memory slot (smoke and spark)

    Posted: 04 Nov 2020 01:38 PM PST

    Hi, everyone.

I started to build my new configuration : https://fr.pcpartpicker.com/list/MDNsXb

When I tried to turn it on, nothing happened. Then I tried to change the POWER and RESET cable position (maybe I inverted + and -) then suddenly I saw spark and smoke near to memory slots.

As you can see on the picture (you can zoom) : https://imgur.com/4nKOUGQ

Can someone explain to me what happened? I know my motherboard is dead now, but I'm worried about other components.

Are we expecting any Zen 3 third party benchmarks today?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2020 06:22 AM PST

    As title, pretty much.

I would have expected some third party benchmarks for the Zen 3 CPUs today given the imminent release tomorrow - or is everything being held back for launch day?

    Any headset recommendations?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2020 11:58 AM PST

Currently looking for a new headset. Im looking at standard gaming headsets as well as headphones that will be paired with a mic. Looking to spend 1-200. My biggest needs are comfort, closed back, and overall sound quality. If someone has some open back recommendations Id love to hear, Im not an expert at all in that area.

Is it possible to connect two monitors with on dp cable?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2020 10:20 AM PST

I have two Asus vg278qr monitors and I evga 2060 ko gaming gpu. My monitors both support up to 165hz but that's only over DisplayPort and I only have one DisplayPort on my gpu which really sucks since over HDMI my monitors can only run up to 120hz. Would it be possible for me to daisy chain my monitors together and have them both connected to the single DisplayPort?

    Edit:

Or if it's possibly easier would it be possible to just get a DisplayPort to HDMI cable and still get my higher refresh rates?

No input signal when entering bios

    Posted: 04 Nov 2020 12:00 PM PST

Hey guys I'm trying to enter bios but get the no input signal message on my monitor. Even when I boot into windows, I don't get signal until I reach the windows user login page.

Is it possible bios is trying to use integrated graphics? My cpu doesn't have integrated graphics so if this is true I'd need to change bios output to my gpu.

I'm using b550 gaming edge wifi mobo, a ryzen 3800x cpu, and a gtx 970 gpu.

My dad wants me to build a $500-$750 PC for him.

    Posted: 04 Nov 2020 02:21 PM PST

I was wondering what parts I should use for maximum performance (possibly even putting a ryzen 3700x in there) He really doesn't need a powerful gpu, just enough to handle whatever small amount of video editing he would need to do. He's on video calls all day for work, and just wanted something that was faster than his PC from 2010 that hes using.

GPU not detected despite being installed and reinstalled multiple times

    Posted: 04 Nov 2020 02:21 PM PST

A little background, I've had my pc built for a few months at this point and have been enjoying it. However, just today I noticed my GPU was not being detected and I was running on my CPUs integrated graphics instead. Additionally, for as long as I've been using my PC my GPU has displayed a solid red light above where the power cord plugs in and its fans never spin, its plugged in, I've tried taking it out multiple times and reinstalling it and nothing's worked, any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Which RAM @ 4000mhz?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2020 02:14 PM PST

So I will hopefully buy a 5600x tomorrow and still have some money left. Right now I have 16gb dual 3000mhz CL16-18-18-38 Ram which is probably enough already but I want to do the jump to 4000. What is the best 4000 budget Ram and best performance one? Also should I go more than 4000?

First PC won’t turn on. Help please!

    Posted: 04 Nov 2020 12:39 PM PST

Last night I built my first PC. Ryzen 5 3600, 1660 super, B450 Tomahawk Max motherboard.

I plugged everything in and turned it on and everything seemed to be working. All the fans and lights turned on. The CPU fan was on and the GPU fans were on. I went to bed and decided to test it in the morning.

In the morning, I plugged it in and nothing booted up. Black screen on the monitor. Nothing. I realized that the motherboard had 2 red lights flashing. One next to CPU and one next to GPU. After some googling, it said the CPU light may be on because my bios might be out of date. I formatted my flash drive, installed the latest B450 Tomahawk Max bios on a flash drive, unplugged everything else from my motherboard except the 24 pin and the 8 pin connectors.

I plug the flash drive into the flash bios port in the motherboard and hold down the bios button. The red bios light flashes, then doubles in speed. Then, goes off. I wait for a few minutes and then turn off the power supply and turn it back on. But, the PC won't turn on.

I'm panicked. Can anybody help me or tell me what I did wrong?

    Thank you in advance!

NR200 Gap at top of PCIE slots

    Posted: 04 Nov 2020 12:12 PM PST

Hey, I just finished a build with the NR200 case and I see there's a pretty big gap at the top of the PCIE slots. All cases I've used in the past had something to close this to prevent dust entry, but I don't see anything here for that. Am I missing something? https://i.imgur.com/yPG3OUM.png

Also, I tried submitting a support ticket for this multiple times via the Fanzone site and get a popup that just says "Fail!"

First build, how does the parts list look?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2020 10:56 AM PST

My budget is about $1000 and after researching a lot I decided on this list of parts, can anyone let me know what to change? I looked up the benchmarks for the 3600 paired with 5600 and it consistently gets 100+ frames which is perfect

Is an i7-8700 powerful enough for an RTX 3070?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2020 02:55 PM PST

I recently received my RTX 3070 but I have ran into some rather bad bottlenecking issues with my i5-6600k (expected). I am considering upgrading my cpu to an i7-8700 as they are going for a decent price on ebay (around £200)

Will I encounter the same problems or is the i7-8700 powerful enough for the RTX 3070? Is there a better cpu I can find for around the same price?

Is the Kraken x63 compatible with the Ryzen 9 5900X

    Posted: 04 Nov 2020 02:50 PM PST

    Hi,

Looking to pick up a Ryzen 9 5900X - Looking at the NZXT specs it says Ryzen 7 are supported - will this cooler go ok? I'm assuming it will be fine due to the 5000 series being the same AM4 socket.

Was trying to decide against the x63 vs the NH-D15 black.

    Thanks!
