What advancements in monitors have been made in the last half decade?

    Posted: 03 Oct 2020 06:50 AM PDT

Specs from monitors are difficult to browse through because for example, pixel refresh times will be reported in non-gtg values, to deceptively make an IPS monitor appear as fast as a TN. Bit depth is typically 8 bits for TN panels which feels like a regression. We still don't have a working variable refresh model with strobing. OLED monitors agent a thing and neither is micro led. The monitor landscape has appeared to hit a wall in advancement. Are there any substantial improvements in any specific monitor models today?

Do you think there will be external upscalers/cables using AI upscaling like Nvidia's DLSS

    Posted: 04 Oct 2020 01:36 AM PDT

So for sub 1080p devices currently mCables are the best option, but I wonder if there will be AI upscaler cables available in the future that use Nvidia's DLSS technology or a similar approach. Has there maybe been already some news in regards to this?

It has been rumored that a new revision for the Switch for instance might have the DLSS chip built in, but I consider that tech even more interesting if used in an upscaler box or cable.
