Please don't post involved questions that are better suited to a [Build Help], [Build Ready] or [Build Complete] post. Examples of questions:

    • Is this RAM compatible with my motherboard?
    • I'm thinking of getting a GTX 1070. Which one should I get?
    • I'm on a very tight budget and I'm looking for a case < $50

Extremely overwhelmed trying to pick a 1440p 144hz monitor

    Posted: 04 Oct 2020 11:22 AM PDT

Hello guys, i need some recommendations to blindly buy the best 1440p 144hz monitor (for a budget under $300 and for under $400).

This by far has been my hardest piece to pick, too much to look for: VA vs IPS, no screen backlight (which seems to be the problem on most ones i find like the Acer Nitro XV272U, but, is it really an issue or am i giving it too much?), gsync compartible (or freesync if possible to use with nvidia), Curve pannel vs flat pannel, etc.

The best ones I've found under 300 are the Acer Nitro xv272U (with the issue of backlight), and the AOC CQ27G2 (around 250ish but is VA?).

For under 400 ive got the LG 27GL83A-B (no issues here aside from being 100 usd more expensive than the under 300 ones)

Could you please throw me in the correct direction? The only thing I'm 100% sure i dont want is a TN pannel because of the viewing angles, aside from that, I'm overwhelmed by the rest of the specs. Will be pairing it with an RTX 3070.

Will be used only for gaming and watching movies

    27” 1440p 144hz IPS Monitor Recommendations?

    Posted: 04 Oct 2020 07:52 AM PDT

Looking to upgrade from my 1080p VA panel. Budget is $400.

Edit: thanks for all the suggestions! you've given me a good starting point to start shopping. At the moment I'm leaning towards the LG 27GL83A-B

Opinion on my 3070 parts list

    Posted: 04 Oct 2020 06:36 AM PDT

    Hello,

So I am planning out a parts list for a 3070 build. I plan on using it 99% for gaming. I am looking to run specifically COD: Warzone at 1440p.

I don't have a way of running an ethernet cable, so I need wifi. I was thinking of switching out the motherboard for a cheaper B550 motherboard (maybe the MSI B550-A PRO) and getting a cheap wifi card ($30-50) to save some money here. But I don't know if getting a cheap wifi card will cause me to have bad connection.

I have an old CX750M PSU from a few years back, so I'd like to reuse it. However, PCPartPicker also showed a compability issue. I do plan on doing some light overclocking, so will this be a problem?

    Planning for my zen3 build

    Posted: 04 Oct 2020 04:24 AM PDT

    Hey guys,

I am planning a new zen3 build (finally retiring my good old i5-2500k!). Just wanted to check if everything looks good or if there are any other recommended parts.

My PC will be pretty close to my bed so I value low noise but still with high performance.
Also I don't want to deal with bloatware so i have planned a non-rgb build.

    Some considerations I had

    - Purpose: 80% gaming and 20% productivity (coding, using some virtual machines)

    - I don't mind splurging a bit on the cpu even if it isn't necessary because I hope to keep it a long time

    - 1000w PSU is oversized but hopefully lower noise with low rpm/zero rpm for most loads?

    - will wait with motherboard and ram to check if there is any new chipset announced and whether higher memory clock rams benefit zen3 more

    - Noctua 140mm 2x front, 2x top, move the 3 stock 120mm fans -> 2x bottom, 1x rear.
Are many fans running at low rpm better for noise? Maybe skip the stock fans?

    - struggling imagining how it will look without anything lighting the inside, so solid or glas sidepanel?

    What do you guys think?

Can I trust the websites which pcpartpicker shows me ?

    Posted: 04 Oct 2020 07:37 AM PDT

I live in Ireland and hope to build my first gaming pc soon, however my parents are worried that I might get scammed (which is understandable because I'm spending around 1000 euro on it). The two websites I'm buying my parts from are komplett and custom pc. Has anyone ever bought from these websites and can verify that I can trust them ? Thank you in advance

How do I upgrade the bios of a B550 board for Zen 3, if I don't have a Zen 2 CPU?

    Posted: 04 Oct 2020 06:46 AM PDT

From my limited knowledge (please correct me if I'm wrong), the only option would be to buy a motherboard such as the Gigabyte B550 Aorus Elite, which has a Q-flash bios button, where you can plug in a USB with the updated bios, and it'll update the bios even without a CPU in.

I know with time the boards will ship with the updated bios' for Zen 3, but I want to buy a Zen 3 CPU as soon as they're out.

    Thanks for your help!

Times when you thought you'd broken your PC

    Posted: 04 Oct 2020 05:13 AM PDT

I'm curious to read about some times if/when you guys thought you had broken your PC but it continued to work perfectly fine. Perhaps you had accidentally dropped a screwdriver on your motherboard, or you felt like you were gonna break your board in half by pulling out the 24 pin power connector or installing your CPU.

I recently opened my PC up to upgrade my RAM and I somehow put it in backwards, I also think I pressed down too hard while inserting my 24 pin connector and USB 3.0 cable, then getting my side panel back on without it bulging out was an absolute nightmare.

Luckily everything works fine, but it would be kind of comforting to know that I'm not the only one who makes silly mistakes from time to time lol.

    CPU cooler question

    Posted: 04 Oct 2020 10:28 AM PDT

I just built my first gaming PC. Everything runs great, except for the empty spot where the 3080 should be...working on finding one.

I have an air cooler for the CPU, but am considering getting a water cooler to help with temps. I have no plans to OC now, but after a few months the temptation will be too great and I will want to tinker.

    I have two questions:

    1. I have three fans in the front, one in the back, and space at the top for two 120mm fans. If I were to get something like the Corsair iCUE H100i liquid CPU cooler, could that help exhaust hot air from the case through the top in addition to cooling the CPU?

    2. On the Amazon page for the Corsair iCUE H100i, someone in the comments stated that it's recommended to pull air in from the outside with the fans, rather than push air through the radiator to the outside. Is this true?

    Thanks

    What should I upgrade to?

    Posted: 04 Oct 2020 10:58 AM PDT

I currently have a GTX 1060 3GB, I usually play games which don't require much (minecraft, etc) though I do sometimes play more demanding games. I've had this PC for 2 years. My entire PC in general has been getting slower and slower, and I think it could be due to the 3GB (???).

    So heres the question:
Should I upgrade, and if so, what should I upgrade to?

I'm not sure what my budget would be, but the less expensive the better haha.

    Thank you for your time.

Building my first ever PC RIGHT NOW - PLEASE Help.

    Posted: 04 Oct 2020 09:10 AM PDT

    Hey y'all.

I'm halfway through my build right now! But i am currently stuck!

I am trying to hook my cables in. Not from the power supply (yet) but from the integraded cables. I put the hd audio and usb 3.0 in its socket. I am currently trying to put the fan cable in but i have no idea where! I have found ports called 'SYS FAN1' 'SYS FAN2' 'SYS FAN3' AND 'PWUP FAN 1'

    Which one?

Edit: I got it. Thanks everyone. Still not finished though. Very scared with the power supply lol

    Low-end vid card coming soon?

    Posted: 04 Oct 2020 09:07 AM PDT

I've heard about the RDNA2 launch and was wondering if Nvidia or AMD was going to release a low-end (1660 super price range) anytime soon. I am looking to build a computer during black friday, so will there be a low-end card in time? If not, will the 1660 super drop a fair amount in price?

Current monitor and adding a second one for 3080

    Posted: 04 Oct 2020 12:14 PM PDT

I currently have an Asus ROG Swift PG278Q that I am hoping I will get better performance out of with a 3080. My questions though are as follows:

    1. Is my current monitor a good monitor for 1440p with the 3080? If not what are better ones?
    2. I want to add a second monitor to have chrome windows open, and potentially streams (using it while Im gaming on the main monitor). What would be a good secondary monitor?
    3. If I add this second monitor will it impact the performance of the main monitor on the single GPU?

Sorry Im sure these are basic questions, but Im not incredibly savvy when it comes to this sort of setup.

MOBO and GPU recommendation for this build?

    Posted: 04 Oct 2020 07:58 AM PDT

    Hello everyone,

I'll be finally building my new computer soon which will be a HUGE upgrade compared to my current build.
I've decided to go with these parts:

    NZXT H510 ELITE
    AMD Ryzen 9 3900x
    CORSAIR VENGEANCE 3600MHZ 32GB (2X16GB)
    NZXT KRAKEN X63
    SAMSUNG EVO 970 PLUS 500GB
    TOSHIBA 2TB HDD
    COOLERMASTER MASTERWATT 750W

SAPPHIRE RADEON RX 5700 XT 8GB NITRO+ (I aim to get this one but it will be depending on the prices with the arrival of the new GPU's, I'm expecting a price drop on this one)
ASUS ROG STRIX X570 GAMING E (That's my main concern, I know it's a great board and future proof with PCIe gen 4 plus it has great vrm overall especially pairing it up with 3900x)

So, if you have any recommendations for MOBO AND GPU that would get me the same performance but are more VFM to pair up with the rest of the build since I'm on a budget that would be great :)

    2933MHz Memory V.S. 3200MHz Memory for a 4K Gaming PC

    Posted: 04 Oct 2020 10:57 AM PDT

I'm building a new PC for 4k gaming. The build includes a 10th Gen Intel Core i7 10700KF with a NVIDIA GeForce RTX2080 SUPER 8GB GDDR6. Is it worth it to go for 3200MHz Memory over 2933MHz Memory? I've heard that there are diminishing returns on memory speeds at higher resolutions.

    Build Help/Ready:

Have you read the sidebar and rules? (Please do)

    Yes

What is your intended use for this build? The more details the better.

    4K Gaming

If gaming, what kind of performance are you looking for? (Screen resolution, framerate, game settings)

    4k, 60+ fps

What is your budget (ballpark is okay)?

How many fans are too many fans?

    Posted: 04 Oct 2020 06:39 AM PDT

So i recently moved my build to a new case (corsair 275r). It supports up to 6 fans. (img for simplicity's sake)

I'd like to populate all slots for a e s t h e t i c reasons but i can't quite wrap my head around the airflow inside the case. As of now i have in my possession 2xNoctuas 2xML120rgb(AIO) 3xCorsair AF and 3xCorsair oem fans. All of them are 120mm fans. I originally planned to install the 240mm AIO on top but it doesn't fit.

So, besides the radiator on front, how should i distribute the fans on the case? I'd like to achieve positive pressure to make good use of the dust filters but 5 intake 1 exhaust seems hella extreme lol

so I bought 3600mhz ddr4 ram, now it runs on 2666mhz and the max soeed my motherboard supports is 3200mhz (I have amd ryzen 3 2200g and gigabyte ga ab350m ds3h v2)

    Posted: 04 Oct 2020 12:05 PM PDT

when I tried to enable xmp it tried to set the ram to 3600mhz and when I booted it opened the blue screen that says repair or something (didn't work), now is there a way to enable xmp profile to 3200mhz? will there be a noticeable difference between 2666mhz and 3200/3000?
