Posted: 26 Sep 2020 07:09 AM PDT An ant crawled inside of my computer monitor (Samsung LU28E590DS). I have no idea how it got inside, I was hoping it would eventually crawl back out but it just died in the middle of the screen. I did not squish it. Has this happened to anyone? I tried shaking and lightly tapping the monitor to try to get the ant to fall down the screen out of view but it's stuck and wondering of any other ideas. (Please no "looks like your computer has a bug" or "try debugging" jokes). Thanks [link] [comments] |
Do I need to upgrade anything to benefit from the 3080 or 3090's? Posted: 26 Sep 2020 04:32 AM PDT Hello all, I would like some advice on if I should look to upgrade anything to switch to 1440 with one of the new 3080's or 3090's or just purchase a new PC altogether. Looking to buy 2TB SSD, which one is the best and best value? Posted: 26 Sep 2020 05:22 AM PDT I built a PC successfully at the start of lockdown, and it's been running perfectly. The only upgrade I'd like is storage. I currently have a 500GB M.2 SSD and a couple of 1TB external HDDs for file dump and backup, but I'd like a 2TB internal drive for games so I can clear out the M.2 for operating system. I was going to get an HDD, but a friend said it's worth splashing out for an SSD. Looking to spend under £150 (~$200), what's my best bet? [link] [comments] |
Boot time takes 45 seconds even though i‘m using a Kingston A2000 NVME Posted: 26 Sep 2020 01:39 AM PDT Hi all, So i have only one (1) drive in my system and it's a Kingston A2000 1TB. I installed all the drivers from my motherboards manufacturer but my system start up time hasn't improved. From pressing the button to the login screen it takes a full 45 seconds. What could be the cause? I have performed a write/read test and the speeds are within 90% of what the box says. In BIOS i am just using the default settings apart from XMP enabled for my RAM. My system specs are: - Ryzen 3 3100 - MSI B550 PRO-VDH WIFI - 2x8GB Corsair Vengeance LPX 3200MHz CL16 - Sapphire Pulse rx570 4GB (had to flash the original vbios on it because it was used for mining before) - Kingston A2000 1TB Any help appreciated! My RAM is running lower than listed? Posted: 25 Sep 2020 11:34 PM PDT I have 2 Crucial Ballistix each 8Gb 3600Mhz, and it is listed in the BIOS that they are runing at 3600Mhz, and I even turned on XMP, but still when I open Speccy it is listed " 16.0GB Dual-Channel Unknown @179MHz (16-18-18-38) " can anyone offer some insight? This is my first time building a PC or messing around in the BIOS [link] [comments] |
Installing a 2.5 SSD in an oddly-shaped 3.5 bay. Posted: 26 Sep 2020 11:33 AM PDT Hello: I'm upgrading the 3.5 HDD to a 2.5 SSD in an old Gateway sx 2800 (SFF). Here's a photo of the bay where the HDD is mounted, and the drive I intend to stick in there. The HDD is currently mounted via 4 screws into a sleeve that's attached to the the bracket holding the optical drive. What would be the best & cheapest way to hold the 2.5 SSD in that sleeve? I'm okay w/ a jury rigged solution or shim or something. Thank you. [link] [comments] |

What is a good 1080p 144hz monitor for 200$? Posted: 26 Sep 2020 01:43 AM PDT Replacing my ASUS VG248QE because the colors were washed out. I noticed how bad they were when I was comparing it to my cheap secondary 60hz monitor. Don't know weather to go with TN or IPS, will I notice the difference in response time? I will be using it for fps games like r6 and csgo. Anyways want 1080p 144hz lowest response time possible 24 inch and not curved. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 Sep 2020 05:25 AM PDT Hey, im looking to get a EVGA GTX 1650 Super SC Ultra (i hate these names so much) via amazon and apply later for a step up to the 3070. Im from Portugal and i believe that country is listed as an available country for the program. Does anyone have any experience using this step up? I've heard that the cards they have reserved are worse quality then those they sell, is that true or just a rumour? [link] [comments] |

Power Supply Question - Running a 1080ti AND a 3080? Posted: 26 Sep 2020 12:12 PM PDT So, I got lucky this past week and was able to get my hands on an order for a RTX 3080. My current build is running a 850W power supply and a 1080TI as my GPU, but I am wondering.... Can I drop in the 3080 into my build and run them side by side without any power issues? Or is it just not worth running two GPU at the same time? Parts list for good measure: CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 1800X 3.6 GHz 8-Core Processor CPU Cooler: Corsair H60 54 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler Motherboard: MSI B350 PC MATE ATX AM4 Motherboard Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-2133 CL13 Memory and Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory Storage: Samsung 860 Pro 512 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive Storage: Seagate 2 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Hybrid Internal Hard Drive Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11 GB Founders Edition Video Card Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA G2 850 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 Sep 2020 05:01 AM PDT Am I 3080/3070 Ready???? Hey Y'all, I'm really interested in getting one of these two GPUs to upgrade my system. However, I'd like some opinions about whether or not I can make it a seamless upgrade (aside from a power supply if I get a 3080). I mostly game at 1080p but could be moving up to 1440p if I get this card. Here is my current build: CPU: Ryzen 5 3600 CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Black Edition MOBO: MSI x570 MPG Gaming Plus RAM: 2x8 G.Skill Ripjaws @ 3200 MHz Current GPU: Radeon Rx 580 sapphire pulse PSU: PowerSpec 650 W 80+ Bronze Case: NZXT H510 Just looking for opinions on this. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
What is the limit for overclocking memory frequency? Posted: 26 Sep 2020 06:52 AM PDT Hi guys, I am thinking about upgrading to an i7-7700 on a motherboard with H170 chipset which supports memory with frequency up to 2133MHz, but the i7 supports up to 2400MHz. Not a huge difference, but what is the limit for overclocking memory? Is it the motherboard or the CPU? Thank you in advance. [link] [comments] |
MSI Afterburner is causing my screen to go black for split second intervals Posted: 26 Sep 2020 01:13 PM PDT I don't know why but whenever I have MSI Afterburner on my computer does these constant flickers almost every 10 seconds. When afterburner is not on it doesn't do it but I use afterburner to adjust my GPU fan speed so I need it on when I play games. I tired uninstalling and reinstalling but it didn't work. Any ideas? Do ryzen coolers come with thermal paste? Posted: 26 Sep 2020 01:12 PM PDT |
Building a new rig, unsure about a few components Posted: 26 Sep 2020 01:11 PM PDT Hey yall I'm thinking it's about time I put together a new build since my old mobo, ram and cpu is about 9 years old at this point (rocking an i5 2500k). However I'm unsure about a few parts, mainly the motherboard. Here's what I'm planning on right now:
So what I'm feeling kind of lost about is mainly the motherboard, is a b450 enough or should I get a b550 and what brand/model should I get since there are so many variants. I might also get some NVMe storage since it's not that expensive. I'll use it for everyday tasks, mainly gaming, nothing like rendering but I'll also use it for developing tasks like coding etc, however this isn't that demanding. Also, will the NH-UH12S be enough or should I get something bigger? Also if anything about the build is questionable then please do say so. [link] [comments] |
Questions for someone looking to upgrade to RTX 3070. Posted: 26 Sep 2020 01:11 PM PDT Hello all, this past summer I built my first PC ever with the intent to upgrade my GPU when Nvidia dropped the 3000 series. SPECS: (Ryzen 5 3600 (Overclocked) 4.2 GHz @ 1.28V) (Corsair H100i Pro RGB AIO ) (RX580 8Gb (Placeholder)) (16 Gb 3200 MHz ram) (Gigabyte B450m Ds3h Motherboard) (M.2 NVME SSD (500GB)) (EVGA 600w 80+ Bronze) So I am looking to purchase a 3070 when they drop (Me and a friend are camping outside microcenter on the 14th) I would like one so i could run anything at max setting without losing FPS for years to come and to futureproof my PC, what I would like to know is what other components need to be replaced when i make the upgrade. Nvidia recommends a 650w PSU for the 3070, however this was tested with a CPU much more powerful than mine, would i likely be fine with my 600w PSU, and would it not be a good idea to see if my current PSU could handle it? Also, i know i cheaped out on my motherboard, but i watched a video that recommends a B550 motherboard, would you all agree with this and why? Thank you all very much! [link] [comments] |
Question about the evga step up program? Posted: 26 Sep 2020 01:10 PM PDT So if I buy a rtx 2070 super can I upgrade to a 3070 for cheap when they drop since they are both 500? [link] [comments] |
3200MHz RAM showing 1333.4 in CPU-Z--is this normal? Posted: 26 Sep 2020 01:08 PM PDT I recently bought Silicon Power DDR4 16GB (8GBx2) XPOWER RGB Turbine Gaming 3200MHz. I just installed it, loaded up CPU-Z and it's telling me that the DRAM Frequency is only 1333.4MHz. Did I get sent the wrong memory or is there something going on here that makes this normal? Posted: 26 Sep 2020 01:02 PM PDT I am about to build a small form factor PC and would like to know if I am committing any obvious errors and/or if you see possibilities of optimization without spending a lot more money. The PC will be used mainly for Blender and AutoCAD and in this configuration the total will run about 1100€. I have already ordered the case and PSU but am holding off on the rest until those arrive. All feedback and suggestions are much appreciated. Specifically I am unsure about the choice of RAM and SSD.
