X58 + X5660 @ 4Ghz + 5 year old 'GPU' Review in 2020 Posted: 30 Jun 2020 07:31 PM PDT X5660 + X58 + Fury X 2020 - Kana's FineWine Edition https://overclock-then-game.com/index.php/benchmarks/18-amd-fury-x-2020-kana-s-finewine-edition
-CPU: Xeon X5660 @ 4Ghz I got a suggestion that I should post this X58+GPU in 2020 review here as well. Sometime ago I decided to crank up the my 5 year old Fury X and benchmark it to see how viable it was in 2020 as the previous years had been kind to it. I'm still rocking my X58 & X5660. The X58 is literally 12 years old at this point and still amazes me to this day. Many years ago (2013) I wrote my review on the L5639 and shortly after the X5660 (here - "Westmere-EP - X5660 Full Review"). That opened the flood gates to people being interested in the X58 platform post X79+ and till this day. 12 years after release there are many reasons why people love this platform, but I think I've just about tapped all of the power out of this beast. Being that I am obviously 100% GPU bottlenecked I see no reason to pump up the voltage and run my GPU test @ 4.6 or 4.8Ghz. Not only that, but this platform is still running only PCIe 2.0, however, the disadvantage against newer PCIe standards (3.0\4.0) isn't that great from a few synthetic benchmark test I've seen from the 5700XT running on Intel 9th Gen against Intel 1st Gen. I have tested several games, including Ray-Tracing to show how well my setup is performing in 2020. I might be benchmarking a newer GPU soon, but the Fury X will do for now as it has for years for the types of games I play. Feel free to let me know what you guys think below. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 30 Jun 2020 02:14 PM PDT If you haven't seen it yet, Reddit has updated their Content Policy here: https://www.redditinc.com/policies/content-policy Our first rule on /r/hardware has long been "Follow Reddiquette," but with the new policy now in place we are updating Rule 1 to be "Follow the Reddit Content Policy rules." This doesn't represent a change to how we will be moderating, but we feel the new rules do a better job clarifying what is and is not acceptable behavior. Particularly when clicking on the the subpoints, for example harassment and bullying, lays out specific examples as examples of poor behavior as well as "behaving in a way that would discourage a reasonable person from participating on Reddit." As before, if you think someone is breaking our rules please use the Report button rather than calling the person out or continuing to engage with them. (Baiting and counter-attacking are also not allowed.) Thanks to all those who already do follow our rules and continue to make our community excellent! [link] [comments] |

How do I cool the VRM on a cheap motherboard? Posted: 01 Jul 2020 01:48 AM PDT I am building a PC and I can't find any ATX motherboard available that I would like. So I am thinking of getting a cheap motherboard for now (that will last at least 8-12 months if not years). Now I don't know much about VRMs but this video pretty much suggests not to buy the Asus Prime B450 motherboards because of bad VRM but it's one of those few motherboards that are available here currently. I would have preferred to buy a better motherboard like the Tomahawk Max but it's out of stock. Anyway, assuming that the VRM is indeed not good on this motherboard, is there a way to cool it? I'll mainly be editing 1080p videos on this build and I'll use the following components.
