Please don't post involved questions that are better suited to a [Build Help], [Build Ready] or [Build Complete] post. Examples of questions:

    • Is this RAM compatible with my motherboard?
    • I'm thinking of getting a GTX 1070. Which one should I get?
    • I'm on a very tight budget and I'm looking for a case < $50

The upcoming Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 made me do it

    Posted: 23 Jul 2020 07:11 AM PDT

Ok so building almost a new machine or an upgrade. I started with just an idea of a new HOTAS then it became a few more Peripherals because the hugely anticipated Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 is almost apon as.

So because of that one peripheral it then had turned into many and practically a new machine

So I'm looking at an i9-9900k, Asus Z390 Strix-E Gaming, Lian Li case and a bunch of other goodies, plus a ton of new Peripherals from dual quadrants, rudder pedals, flight panels, streaming gear etc, I've gone nuts.

Ok so I have started with my CPU DELID today, I think it went really well.

    https://imgur.com/gallery/cYxqcGx

Waiting on some more fans and other bits then the actual build next week, holding off for a 3000 Series GPU when they become available.

Either way I love the cycle of upgrade time, this time I went no I feel overboard but get we do it if we can right!!

    Build for my son

    Posted: 23 Jul 2020 08:27 AM PDT

    Well, it's done. pics

Made a few mistakes with the build like installing the os on the HD instead of the SSD (just fixed that). Thought I could get away with a 2060 but as soon as my son jumped on r6 the fps expected was not there so I went out and got a 2070 ftw ultra for him. The last hindsight issue was the AIO, wish I would of paid more attention to hose length as I had to mount the radiator upside down because the hoses are not long enough.

Had such a blast putting this together that I plan on building my own pc after the new amd GPU's, nvidia GPU's and ryzen 4000's drop.

Build: Thermaltake P1 case Ryzen 7 3700x Gigabyte Gamer X mobo Evga RTX 2070 FTW Ultra EVGA 650w Gold psu Corsair Vengeance RGB 3200 ram ( 2 x 16gb ) Seagate 2tb HD Samsung 500gb SSD Cooler Master ML360R AIO Cooler Master SK650 limited edition keyboard Cooler Master MM711 mouse Samsung 27" 144hz 1440 monitor

On a side note, I would like to give away (yes free O' charge) the EVGA RTX 2060 KO Gaming gpu that I replaced. It has, at most 6 hrs of run time on it. It will ship without the original box as my son tossed it without me knowing (still have to teach him a few things ;) ). So if your in need of a gpu just post your current setup and you might be picked.

PC not showing any signs of life

    Posted: 23 Jul 2020 12:37 PM PDT

    Parts List:

    Motherboard: MSI B450 Tomahawk Max

GPU: MSI Geforce GTX 1070 8GB

    CPU: Ryzen 5 1600 3.2 GHz 6-core Processor

    RAM: Crucial Ballistix 16GB (2x8) DDR4-3200

    SSD: ADATA SU635 240 GB

    PSU: EVGA 450 W3 100-W3-0450-K1

    Case: NZXT H510 ATX Mid

I received this PC in the mail from /r/hardwareswap. When it arrived it wouldn't boot up and the fans/LEDs wouldn't turn on either. I figured it was the PSU so I went to buy a new one (the EVGA) but it still won't turn on.

Here are some photos of the build, any ideas are much appreciated!

    https://imgur.com/a/ivIaYN6

Edit: I reseated the RAM, CPU, and GPU but still nothing turning on when I plug in the PSU and flip the switch. Pressing the on button also does nothing. I think this thing just decided it hates electricity.

    My 1st (and 2nd) build ever :D

    Posted: 23 Jul 2020 07:26 AM PDT

My youngest son (14) had been hassling me for a while about getting a gaming PC so after Christmas when he had a bit of spare cash, we decided to go for it. Budget creep kinda took hold and he ended up with the following

    B450 Tomahawk Max

    Ryzen 7 2700

    2×8Gb Corsair DDR4 3000

    Palit dual RTX 2070

    500Gb Crucial MX500 Sata SSD

    2Tb HDD

600W Be Quiet PSU from his big brother

    BenQ 4k 27" and an AOC 1080p 24" monitor.

All put together in a Corsair 220t RGB case

Now, as my lad goes to boarding school and usually only comes home at weekends or holidays, i thought I'd get quite a bit of use from his system while he was away...................COVID lockdown thought otherwise 😂😂

I very quickly decided I wanted a computer too and built one with the following specs

MSI B450 Gaming Pro Carbon AC

    Ryzen 5 3600

    2x8Gb Corsair DDR4 3600

    Zotac RTX 2060

    Cooler master hyper 212 evo

    2Tb HDD

500Gb samsung 950 evo NVMe from my old laptop

    Seasonic focus 650w 80+ gold

    27" acer 1440p

    MSI Gungnir 110r case

I think I'm now hooked!! I'm already considering my next upgrades, waiting with baited breath for the Nvidia 30xx cards to launch 😂

Edit to add images, hope this works

My first PC build which was my dream since 2 years

    Posted: 23 Jul 2020 03:48 AM PDT

Hi everyone, I finally built my PC 6 days ago and I'm very happy with it, I needed support for some parts (especially AIO) and so many people here helped a lot. Thanks everyone for helping!!

    My build: https://ibb.co/cChN8h6

    Peripherals: https://ibb.co/n8ww9kZ

    Specs: CPU: R7 3800X

Graphics card: ROG STRIX RTX 2070

AIO CPU Cooler: Xigmatek Aurora 240mm

Motherboard: MSI MPG B550 Gaming Edge Wi-Fi

RAM: Adata XPG D60G 3600 MHz (OC) CL16

M.2 SSD: Samsung 970 Evo Plus

    HDD: WD Blue 1 TB

PSU: Cougar CMX 850W (Because it was the only modular PSU I could find there, not because I need 850W. Good one tho)

    Case: Xigmatek Aquarius Plus

Monitor: MSI Optix MAG272CQR WQHD 165 Hz 1ms

    Keyboard: Steelseries Apex 3

    Mouse: Razer Mamba Elite

    Headset: HyperX Cloud II

I didn't assemble it all myself, I got help for some parts (I wish I didn't, person who assembled AIO forgot to peel the protective plastic, CPU was 95-100 degs and told me my CPU was broken... lol. I wish I applied thermal paste myself too). I'm very happy about this build and I wish I'll have oppurtunities to upgrade it when it's needed.

Stuck in BIOS after moving SSD to new PC.

    Posted: 22 Jul 2020 10:05 PM PDT

I just upgraded my PC and windows 10 was saved to my SSD, I figured if I just moved that SSD to my new PC everything would be gravy. I'm stuck in BIOS and cant gets windows to load. Am I missing a step? Any help would be awesome!

I have the MSI B550 Tomahawk, not sure if that helps...

Edit: I'm up and running. For whatever reason I couldn't install windows on my old SSD so I relented and installed it on my M2. My plan was to keep OS on a smaller SSD and games/programs on M2. Now I will just keep some games on old SSD. No biggie. I was able to keep my windows, I didn't have to purchase new. Using the usb windows boot tool make sure you know your MS account associated with your windows and what version of windows you have. I first installed windows 10 home but my old PC had pro so windows wouldn't let me bring it over. After a clean windows install I was able to transfer. Pain in the arse, but I'm up and running!

Thanks again for all the help, much appreciated! I would probably still trouble shooting without you guys!

Hey, this will be my first pc build. How is my build? Thoughts greatly appreciated.

I can no longer get my PC to boot...

    Posted: 23 Jul 2020 10:34 AM PDT

I'm a first time builder and I finally finished building my PC. I got it to boot the first time, but I noticed it only read 8GB of RAM when I have 16. It was only reading the RAM from the 2nd slot and not the 4th. So, I reinserted the 4th one and my PC stopped booting. After some troubleshooting, I realized my PC only boots with only one of them in and not both. When I do have both in, it doesn't boot and I get the orange LED near the RAM in the picture below.

I have the ASUS TUF z390-plus gaming (wi-fi). The manual says the light is a Memory LED and it stays lit when MemOK! II (memory re-training) is in use. However, I've also read online that an orange LED means boot failure due to RAM issue. So, I don't know what's going on or how to fix the problem.

    Orange LED

[EDIT: it seems I was mistaken in my original post, Apparently it was the RAM in the 4th slot that was originally working, not the 2nd. Both RAM sticks do work and I was able to solve the problem. Apparently, I just needed to insert the RAM in the 2nd slot better. Thanks everyone for the help! I was surprised by how quick people responded.]

    SFF sata power ports

    Posted: 23 Jul 2020 02:44 PM PDT

    Hi!

Just got a new SFF computer and I can't wrap my head around on how to add more SATA3 SSDs. The MB comes with three SATA3 connectors, up until that it's fine.

The optical drive is gonna be replaced with a caddy, so there goes 1 sata. But the MB diagram only shows two 4-pin sata power connectors (one which is already in use with the optical drive), so I'm wondering how do I add two more SATA3 disks to it? The case already came with a second SATA data cable and a SATA power cable (4-pin as well).

Diagram can be found in page 10 of this PDF

I really don't want to push past $700, hence the lack of an SSD and 3200 instead of 3600MHz RAM. It's going to be for gaming (1080p) and general use. Nothing too serious, but it should be able to run next gen games (Cyberpunk 2077, Halo Infinite, etc.).

Would it be beneficial to upgrade my RAM at this point? Also, would it be worth switching to an AIO at this point? I'm not sure I can fit one in my current case, though; I'm unfamiliar with mounting them.

    First PC Build Help

    Posted: 23 Jul 2020 04:33 AM PDT

I am soon going to order mt first-ever pre-built Custom PC and I had a few doubts which I would really appreciate if someone answered-

    1. MOBO- I have decided to go for Ryzen 5 3600. Should I get a B450 or B550 or x570 mobo? After some research, many people are saying that it's not worth to upgrade to B550 from B450 just for PCIe 4.0 and better heat sinks. So should I just go for B450? Good enough x570 MOBOs are somewhat out of my budget.

    2. GPU- Should I choose AMD Radeon 5700XT or Nvidia 2070 Super? I am inclined towards 2070 Super as I intend to do 1440p gaming in the near future. Plus the DLSS 2.0 and RTX are nice features to have.

    3. RAM- Which RAM speed and brand should I go for? I am thinking about 3200 MHz. Is that good enough or do I need 3600? (Going for 8*2 GBs)

    4. SSD- I am thinking about the combo of 1tb Barracuda HDD and 1 TB SATA SSD. Is it worth it to switch to NVME SSD? Also please suggest a good 1 TB SATA SSD. How is Samsung 860 QVO?

    5. WiFi- Which is a good inbuilt or USB WiFi adapter if I go for a non-wifi MOBO, any suggestions?

I would really grateful if someone could take some time to answer some of the above questions as it's my first ever PC build.

Sorry about the glare, my glass panel is really dim and the room is really bright. Now just to get a desk...

If I had to do it again, I would pick a cheaper case...it was sort of an impulse buy, but it suits my needs.

I also would have gone for a cheaper PSU, but at least I can probably reuse that in my next build.

Help - New build underperforming my expectations

    Posted: 23 Jul 2020 02:09 PM PDT

Just built my first PC in almost a decade and it seems to be underperforming based on my expectations in a couple of ways. I had an old PC that was pretty beefy 9-10 years ago and it handles some aspects of the issues I'm seeing better than my new build raising concerns.

    Parts list:

    Problems/Symptoms

    1. The first thing I noticed is that the build would lock up semi-regularly while watching youtube. Just before this would happen, I'd would first notice that the Corsair fans/lights would "forget" their color programming and go from white to multi-color.

    2. The next issue, causing me to really question my build was attempting to use Adobe Premiere today for some very basic video editing. It's unusable. I can even playback my video on the timeline without Premiere freezeing. My 10yr handles it better and I don't think it should based on my specs.

    Troubleshooting

    For issue #1, I:

    • Ran userbenchmark to see if there was anything blatant: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/30076555
    • Made sure all drivers were up to date
    • Switched from Corsair's iCUE app to link app for managing my lighting bc I had read that iCUE can cause issues and the lights flashing seemed liek a symptom.
    • I also took the magnetic covers off my case because one review said they could impede airflow/raise temps. My fans are constantly running so this seemed like a good idea but not sure what's up.

For the most part (1 occurrence since), I have not had any issues with the YouTube thing since.

    For issue #2, I've:

    • checked the Premeiere settings I know to check
    • I know my graphics card is super light on specs but I figured for the VERY occasional editing my RAM and CPU would get me over the hump.... maybe this is where I'm very mistaken.

Otherwise, I'm not sure where to start on this one and could use any guidance.

edit(s): Okay, okay... I cheaped out on my graphics card. Noted. Also, updated my RAM as I had it listed wrong.

Are there any issues with the build I am about to buy? If not, is there any reasonable way to make it cheaper?

    Posted: 23 Jul 2020 02:00 PM PDT

What is your intended use for this build? The more details the better.

    Causal use, gaming, school work.

If gaming, what kind of performance are you looking for? (Screen resolution, framerate, game settings)

1080p 60hz on medium settings with games like Detroit: Become Human.

What is your budget (ballpark is okay)?

Ideally $500 USD without the GPU. I will buy the GPU at a later time when I am ready.

In what country are you purchasing your parts?

    USA

Post a draft of your potential build here (specific parts please). Consider formatting your parts list. Don't ask to be spoonfed a build (read the rules!).

Will Corsair Vengeance LPX 3600 MHz ram work with TUF x570 and R5 3600

    Posted: 23 Jul 2020 01:46 PM PDT

I'm building my first PC and waiting on all of the parts to arrive. Specs are R5 3600, Asus TUF x570, and Corsair Vengeance LPX 16gb 3600MHz. When the RAM arrived, I noticed that the packaging only said it supports Intel. Should I return this RAM and buy RAM that is for Ryzen? Thanks everyone.

New build posted, then wouldn't boot on first try, now won't boot at all. x570 Asus Prime Pro.

    Posted: 23 Jul 2020 01:46 PM PDT

Built a machine, 3900x on a Asus Prime Pro x570 with two sticks of 32gig of LPX memory.

Now first time I hit the power button straight into BIOS. I thought "awesome. I paid my blood oath and did it". Then next time I went to boot it got stuck on the Dram light on the board. So I took out an reinstalled ram sticks. Rebooted and fine. Third time booted no problem. 4th time same dram light, did a hard restart and fine.

Now I've tried 4th time actions and no luck. Reseated the ram with no luck. At this point I'm unsure on what to do. Also monitor cables are in the gpu and not the mother board.

    Any help would be appreciated.
