Posted: 23 Jun 2020 09:09 PM PDT So the SD Association has announced V8.0 of the SDe specification and claims it will support PCIe V4. WHO CARES ! Where are the SDe products, both devices and memory cards ? For that matter, how many device actually support the much faster UHS-II bus speed ? My gut says SDe may be dead before it is alive ! UHS-II is having a hard time catching on likely simple because of COST ! A SanDisk Extreme PRO 64 GB, U3/V30 UHS-I vs UHS-II is more than DOUBLE the cost ($24 vs $63 Amazon). While I'll bet the cost difference on the host end between the UHS-I and UHS-II interface is not very expensive, no current SBC vendor wants to saddle the extra cost of the memory device. If UHS-II can't catch on, and UHS-III is likely dead, who is going to pay the premium of SDe ? [link] [comments] |
