    • Is this RAM compatible with my motherboard?
    • I'm thinking of getting a GTX 1070. Which one should I get?
    • I'm on a very tight budget and I'm looking for a case < $50

Building a Virus scanning station for work.

    Posted: 20 Feb 2020 01:47 AM PST

    Hi,
I am building a virus scanning station which will also act as an IT support station.
So,I am looking for ideas on these issues i am facing:

-Finding SCSI adapters to be supported on windows 10.
-How to secure the external parts like Docks(external SATA/IDE to usB) and sD card reader from theft(someone can just casually take them to their home).May be put them in some type of box? i am open to ideas.

A tip for newcomers: read the manuals. You may save yourself a headache, or a heart attack.

    Posted: 20 Feb 2020 09:53 AM PST

Get familiar with your motherboard and the connectors present on the board, and your PSU. Look at connectors, read the manual and assess where they belong. Do this before you install anything, the more familiar you are the better off you'll be down the road.

Also assess the connectors that came with your case, they all have arrows on them to signify a positive or negative, refer back to your manuals to find out which way these connectors need to go, and where on the board. If they go on wrong, more than likely nothing will happen and you'll probably be freaking out that it's broken.

Chill. Breaking a PC is much harder than it looks. Check, double check, triple check if you are unsure of your connections, but everything leads back to reading the manual, and keeping it for future use.

    I hope this helps!

Am I supposed to keep this mesh?

    Posted: 20 Feb 2020 12:01 PM PST

First time pc builder, I received my case today (Lancool II) and I was wondering if I should keep this mesh covering the vents like you see in the pictures attached. It came attached already with scotch tape but I removed it because it has magnetic strips so it sticks anyway.

I thought that it would reduced airflow but I'm not sure. In the pictures I show you 2 pieces of mesh that go in the front part of the case and 1 that goes on top. I'm guessing the one on top is to protect from dust.

Will adding 8 GB of RAM help my game performance?

    Posted: 20 Feb 2020 01:25 PM PST

    HI,

I have a somewhat old PC, but its serving me ok so far, however games do not run very well and i'm not able to buy completely new PC right now, but i'd like to improve it's performance.

I'm not sure if i'm being bottlenecked by CPU or RAM so here is my configuration:

    CPU: Intel Core i5 4460

    RAM: 8GB DDR3 1600MHz

GPU: AMD Radeon RX 570 (my old GPU died last year)

So as the title says will my game performance increase if i add another 8GB of RAM?

Honestly until i see minimal requirements i still hold hope i'll be able to play Cyberpunk when it comes out because it will run on the current gen consoles which are weaker then my PC, but realistically i'm just waiting for a disappointment

Any help and inputs would be appreciated.

Is there a limit of re-insertions of DDR4 into DIMM slots? Do the pins on the RAM wear out faster?

    Posted: 20 Feb 2020 12:00 PM PST

i remember back in the days that DDR1/DDR2 modules have approximately 15 re-insertions into the DIMM slot before you start wearing out the gold plated connectors on the pins.

i actually had some DDR2 ram in my prior PC recently, and did notice that there has been noticeable wear on the pin where some of the gold were worn down, and i was careful to not do unnecessary re-insertion of my DDR2 modules.

im curious if this is true. if so, does this still apply for DDR4 modules??

    Computer got really slow

    Posted: 20 Feb 2020 12:22 PM PST

I was playing gta online without a problem yesterday. I opened my pc today and pc was really slow and crashed few times too. I tried deleting temp files, updating the drivers(which made it worse btw), rebooting, cleaning the pc for dust. Nothing changed. Pc still really slow and when i try to play gta i get low fps, game freezes and after like 10 mins game crashes or the computer crashes completely.

What's the deal with the O11 XL ROG Logo?

    Posted: 20 Feb 2020 01:32 PM PST

    Hey all,

I was wondering whether there's a final word on the situation with the RoG Logo on the Lian Li O 11 XL Case? From the bit of research that I've done, the answer is still unclear to me, is the "RoG Certified" logo easily removable or not?

I've seen posts saying that they are easily removable, posts saying that they aren't removable at all without some serious equipment, and one post saying that LL decided to change the engraving to a simple sticker recently, because of people wanting to remove the logo.

If any of you have bought the case (especially in the past month or so), what's the status of the logo?

    Thanks!

PS: I'm not an RoG hater specifically, I'm just really tired of the overused gamer branding on every high end component in general, and IMO it doesn't really suit the case very well.

Finding the bottleneck in system and upgrading it

    Posted: 20 Feb 2020 01:30 PM PST

I am currently running GTX 1060 6gb card, ryzen 5 1600, 16gb Corsair memory at 3000MHz and I was wondering what could possibly be the bottleneck when I was trying to play modern warfare on max settings. Any advice?

Also, will running the game on an M.2 rather than an HDD will make a difference?

28 Pin PSU Connector, 24 Pin Modular Cable

    Posted: 20 Feb 2020 01:10 PM PST

HELP! I just bought Corsair's RM650 modular PSU and some modular cables from cablemod to fit it. The cablemod package is meant for RM series Corsair PSUs but there is a 28 pin input on the PSU, rather than the 24 pin that the cablemod cable needs. I can't find a 28 to 24 pin adapter online and so I'm using the stock cable from Corsair, but I don't want to waste the lovely white modular ones I bought. Any advice or adapters anyone can recommend?

TL;DR: cablemod 24 pin motherboard cable doesn't fit 28 pin psu socket, send help

Should I wait for Ryzen 4000 and RTX 3000 series?

    Posted: 20 Feb 2020 10:19 AM PST

I refunded a build I had (was a 2070 super and ryzen 5 3600) and during that time, I heard announcements about an RTX 7nm technology gpu and a ryzen 4000 series that will be released this year. I was planning to get an RTX 2080 TI and a Ryzen 7 3800x, but maybe for the same price, i will get far better performance for simply waiting a couple months? What should I do? Because I heard RTX 2000s was basically a failure and a rip off.

Can anyone recommend ones that have at least 3 PCie slots, and are relatively cheap?

Can I swap the fans on an Arctic II AIO?

    Posted: 20 Feb 2020 01:59 PM PST

Title. Although I'll give some background.

So I'm about to be upgrading my 4790k build and switch to a 3900x. With that I'm planning on getting the Arctic Liquid Freezer II AIO 280mm to put in an ibuypower snowblind case. I really don't like the fans they come with even though I know they perform really good stock. I'm thinking about buying some Noctua NF-a14's and swap to them, however, it looks like the fans cables are routed with the hoses and wrapped under the mesh.

Is it actually possible to change fans without pulling the mesh around the hoses?

Also just curious in general if a 280mm rad will fit in a snowblind (nzxt H510) I believe it will.

    Any help appreciated. Thanks!

    First PC build ~1700 euro

    Posted: 20 Feb 2020 04:13 AM PST

    Hello,

I want to build my first ever PC soon. I've only ever had laptops my entire life, but i've come to the point where I don't need a gaming laptop anymore (cause i have a work laptop and only game at home).

So right now I have a regular 60hz 1080p monitor connected to my laptop.

So i do wanna buy a good 144hz monitor as well, but i'll do that after my PC. I'll be fine with my 60hz monitor for a few months.

what i want to do with my PC:

game and have a video open at the same time.

for now play low-medium heavy games, but for the future (in lets say 2 years) i want to be able to play AAA games on at least medium settings. (i wanna be quite future proof, but im not gonna stream and play games on twitch etc)

maybe stream my games to other devices like a TV.

I've done lots of research and already talked to plenty of people about my build. For now i've come up with this parts list: https://nl.pcpartpicker.com/user/razzejaz/saved/RHscTW

I chose for AMD, because i like the stuff they make for CPU. For GPU i really like NVIDIA, so thats why im going with the 2070 super. its good, but not the most expensive one. For motherboard, i like the way it looks and the features it has (also has bluetooth which i like).

I'm curious what you guys think about it.

edit: pc parts list has been update because of feedback

RX 5700 XT vs. RTX 2070 Super for 1440p 144hz?

    Posted: 20 Feb 2020 01:49 PM PST

I'm looking to buy a GPU around 350-500 dollars for 1440p gaming on a 144hz monitor, and want to get the best option available. I have a Ryzen 5 3600, and I recently bought a RX 5600 XT which had defective fans that did not follow the curve and blasted at highest RPM no matter what I did, and returned it.

Considering this experience with the AMD GPU as well as hearing many bad things about the 5700 XT's drivers causing to many issues, I am starting to lean towards an Nvidia gpu, particularly the RTX 2070 Super, even though it is about $100 more expensive. However, I also need to buy a 1440p 144hz monitor, so I want to limit my spending on the GPU as much as possible.

Should I just go for the $450 Sapphire Pulse 5700 XT, or buy a $540 EVGA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER BLACK GAMING? (including tax in Washington State)
