What does it physically take to build a pc? Posted: 10 Feb 2020 01:31 AM PST (apologies for any errors or incomprehensible sentences, English isn't my first language and I've never used reddit before) Hello everyone, I graduated (yay!) and just finished my first job. I have a degree in cinema sound engineering and sound design (cinema and video games). With the money from my last job, I can finally afford a proper PC, as until now, I've only owned laptops. The one I'm currently using is a ROG of pretty solid build, but unfortunately the graphic card broke down so it's running on its back-up one. Here's my issue: with the work I have to do (sound design, editing, mixing, etc.) and the games I play, my laptop is now a hindrance. I can't run most of my favourite games and where, before, I could open the softwares I need to work all at the same time, now if I dare open FL and Audition at the same time, the whole thing comes crashing down. I'm explaining all of that so you can get an idea on the type of PC build I'd need. So this is where you come in. I see I can't ask for a list of pieces, but that's a good thing because I'm worried about something else. I'm disabled. On a good day, I have partial use of my legs with excruciating pain. I'm not even discussing the bad days. I have no idea what it takes, physically, to build a PC. Is it heavy? Do I need to kneel, crouch, and stay in that position for a while? I have a lot of upper body strength, thanks to needing it to support myself, and I easily beat my family in that, but I can't crouch at all, I can kneel for under a minute before the pain is too much and I can stand with support for under ten minutes. Sitting is alright. Any weird position that involves my legs is going to be a problem. So I know I sound absolutely stupid asking if I need to crouch to build a PC, but I genuinely have no idea of the physics and I don't want to buy a bunch of stuff that I won't be able to build after (and no, currently, I can't ask for help in a timely manner, as I really need new equipment to be efficient in my work). So hum, yeah, I guess that's my question, do you think it's feasible for me to build a PC or would it be too hard, in which case, should I buy a complete one already? Thank you for your help, I'm glad this type of subreddits exist! [link] [comments]
43yo gamer a bit lost with the actual hardware choices :) Posted: 10 Feb 2020 03:53 AM PST Edit : WOW ! I was lurking this subreddit for a long time and saw a bunch of people saying thank you to the community but I underestimated how great it was :) May I ask you to check if all the parts below fit together nicely and if I did not chose anything completely stupid ? :) It's now more or less 8 years since I built a computer and am a bit lost in the actual offer ... Second question, the GPU. I actually have a GTX 1070 8G and I am wondering if I keep that card or let the older computer "as is" for the kids and buy a new one for this config. Which one would you chose around 600€ ? I think it's the RTX 2070 Super around that price. Thank you very much in advance for your time and advices !

Built my first PC this weekend. I'm surprised by how easy it was! Posted: 10 Feb 2020 06:11 AM PST Just wanted to thank this community for the help and guidance. I was able to put this together this past weekend and it was easier than I was anticipating. The most difficult part honestly was wiring the case fans and cable management! 2600X, RX580, ASRock B450 Steel Legend [link] [comments]

First upgrade to my build: Arctic Freezer 34 eSport Duo Posted: 10 Feb 2020 09:15 AM PST https://i.imgur.com/tNtlwfM.jpg After 6 months I decided to change the stock AMD cooler for the Arctic Feezer eSports Duo. Much silent and 10ºC less idle and 20ª less under load. Pretty happy with the upgrade. First build, build finished but no signal on both monitors. Posted: 10 Feb 2020 03:28 AM PST Hello, Yesterday i just finished my first ever pc build. And at first glance everything looked allright. When i booted the system everything lit up like it supposed to do. Spec list: - x570 - E gaming mobo - 2080 ti rog strix GPU - ryzen 9 3900 x processor - castle 360 AIO rgb cooler - trident z neo dual 16gb ram - corsair mp600 ssd The problem is That i get a no signal message on both of my monitors. I used the x570 - E gaming motherboard wich has on board trpubleshooting light and it is giving me code 14, 15 and c5 on the Q- code led and on board DRAM LED is yellow I tryed to switch the 2 RAMS too different slots 1 at a time becouse i saw a Reddit post with similar problems. Did not work tho. I was thinking i could have 2 faulty RAM sticks but could it be something else?? I am no experianced builder but i almost watched al pc build guides on YouTube 2 weeks in advance before i even started building. I do not know what i can do now, i hope someone can help me here. NOTE: English is not my native language so i am sorry for my grammar and typos. [link] [comments]

Victory from the jaws of defeat Posted: 09 Feb 2020 08:52 PM PST Today, I was building my first computer and fucked up. I was removing my Ryzen 3600 from a defective open box motherboard I got, and as I lifted the CPU heatsink I noticed in horror the CPU stuck onto the bottom. The thermal paste had held strong like superglue. Two of the CPU pins were bent way out of shape in the fray and I thought it was dead for sure. Armed with just my phone flashlight, and a thin flat head screwdriver, I pushed and pulled the pins, trying to set them upright. A few neighboring pins got accidentally bent and I wanted to give up.. After maybe an hour of careful pin wrangling, I was no longer able to tell which corner had bent pins, but I thought I must've broken the pin connectors by moving them around so much. Just for YOLO's sake though, I put it in and gave it a shot. And I can't believe my luck it worked on the first try! [link] [comments]
GTX 1060 6GB and i7 6700K on a EVGA 450 BR PSU ? Posted: 10 Feb 2020 01:05 PM PST Hey guys, I was wondering if a GTX 1060 6GB and i7 6700K 4.GHz (stock) can *Safely* run off of this Bronze rated cpu with 450 Watts. https://www.newegg.com/evga-450-br-100-br-0450-k1-450w/p/N82E16817438144?Item=N82E16817438144 [link] [comments]
Possible to power an Arduino UNO from a fan header? Posted: 10 Feb 2020 02:38 PM PST I want to use and Arduino and LED light strips to make my own, personal lighting effects. I can power an Arduino using the Vin pin which can "accept" 12 volts. I now only need to know if I can use just the power on a fan header on my Asrock b450 f motherboard to power the arduino. I dont need any PWM signals from the motherboard, just 12 volts. Would this create any damages? [link] [comments]
Posted: 10 Feb 2020 02:27 PM PST EDIT: I guess I misunderstood RAM channels. So question is simpler than I thought. 4x8 or 2x16 GB RAM for Single Core dependent Solidworks use. I've done some searching and haven't found a solid answer on wether the ASUS ROG STRIX B450-F GAMING is dual channel or quad channel RAM. I'm going to school for engineering currently and doing CAD/Solidworks currently which has a minimum 16GB, recommended 32GB RAM requirement. Would 4 X 8GB sticks or 2 x 16GB sticks be better? I'd assume it depended on whether or not the board is dual or quad channel. Mainly asking because I've already purchase 2 x 8GB and would like to upgrade to more than the minimum. Thanks for any input. TLDR: 2700x, ASUS ROG STRIX B450-F GAMING, would 2 x 16GB or 4 x 8GB be better for AutoCAD, Solidworks designing. [link] [comments]
Noctua NH-D15 Or Noctua NH-U14S Posted: 10 Feb 2020 02:11 PM PST Hey :) I'm Probably going to buy an air cooler. the Wraith Stealth stock fan for Ryzen 5 3600 is so loud. I'm looking at either Noctua NH-D15 Or Noctua NH-U14S seeing from this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=51hQUYp40nU the performance between the two are pretty much identical. tho the Noctua NH-D15 probably has the best capacity to handle heavier loads. 2 towers + 3 fans possible vs 1 tower + 2 fans. i kinda want the Noctua NH-D15 just because it should be better. i have low profile ram. so if i bought the Noctua NH-D15 i can just put the fan higher up. but then i am afraid it wont fit in my case. I'm also afraid that the VRM heatsink of the MoBo will tought the Noctua NH-D15. i have the Fractal Design Meshicy C. MoBo: MSI B450M Mortar MAX GPU: MSI Radeon RX 5700 Gaming X RAM: Corsair 16GB Vengeance LPX AMD what do u think? also does anyone also have this combination? if so please let me know your thoughts [link] [comments]
Is the AOC 24G2U the best 1080p 144hz monitor for under £200? Posted: 10 Feb 2020 03:24 AM PST I'm building a system based around a 3600x and 2060s mainly to play rocket league, pubg, COD etc. I want to move from 60 to 144hz. I'm presuming that i want 1080p with this setup? And consequently probably want a 24 inch monitor as opposed to 27" I'm really struggling at the frankly insane number of monitors at this price point. I've narrowed it down to the AOC 24G2U as the number one contender. But is it worth getting a TN monitor instead like the LG 24GL600F-B? [link] [comments]
1st time build, need suggestions/critique on the parts I picked Posted: 10 Feb 2020 01:57 PM PST Hey all, first time build and first time in Reddit. Need to build my own pc as I am graduating from Uni and will no longer have access to their nice computers. I will mainly be using it for 3D modeling/animation (mainly adobe suite and zbrush) as well as gaming. I have questions about what kind of storage i should be using, as well as the motherboard I selected. Ive done some of my own research, but as it is my first time i would really appreciate some help! thanks all. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/MZ33gJ [link] [comments]
Screen spazzes during some games and normal usage. Posted: 10 Feb 2020 01:44 PM PST Video of screen bug: https://imgur.com/a/DcvNgFZ This mainly occurs when I play CoD:MW but sometimes even occurs while I use google chrome. Any idea as to why this occurs? [link] [comments]
(Optiplex 745 Minitower) Should I upgrade my PSU? Posted: 10 Feb 2020 01:41 PM PST Currently has two 1GB sticks of DDR2 ram. Since it has four slots at 2GB maximum each, I was thinking about buying four 2GB sticks for a total of 8GB. Will I need to upgrade my PSU to handle this new hardware? Additionally: The manual claims that it has integrated graphics. From what I've heard, those are inferior to standalone graphics cards. Should I bother upgrading that? Would I need a better psu if I upgraded it? (Semi-tech illiterate, thanks in advance) Edit: Same question, but hdd to ssd? [link] [comments] |
