Built a $2500 rig that performs like a netbook. What am I doing wrong? Posted: 02 Feb 2020 12:26 PM PST
I put together a brand new build with all brand new parts, nothing reused. Did a clean install of Windows 10. All drivers have been installed from the ASUS website, as well as for the other components. Windows is updated to the latest version. A majority of the BIOS settings are set to Auto, and no overclocking has been performed. The RAM has its XMP profile applied. BIOS updated to version 1201. As seen in the benchmark results, almost nothing is performing as expected. The system is laggy, stutters, and is all-around slow. I initially thought it was an issue with my NVMe, however I've come to realize that almost nothing works properly, as indicated by the benchmark results. I've tried different drivers, reinstalling Windows again, ensuring all components are seated correctly, changing slots for RAM and GPU, resetting BIOS, updating BIOS to the latest available version, enforcing PCIe 3.0 x4 on the NVMe drive in BIOS as the motherboard was applying PCIe 1.0 x4 for some reason, changed power settings to maximum performance, and triple checked power connections to all components. I'm not sure if I lost the silicon lottery in every conceivable way, or if there's something I'm doing entirely wrong. If there's any information any of you need, feel free to ask. I just don't know what to do. I purchased these parts about a week ago, with all parts coming from either Amazon, Walmart, and Best Buy, so I'm (presumably) within the return period should I need to try and exchange my parts. What should I do to further diagnose this and/or fix it? My primary assumption at this point is that the motherboard itself is bad. Only conclusion that I can reasonably come to considering literally every component is not functioning as expected. Edit: If it's another clue, I'm not sure if it's standard behavior or not but even in the UEFI BIOS it's EXTREMELY laggy. Like the mouse stutters around, the screen even lags during scrolling. Not sure if that can indicate what's wrong any further. To me, it indicates bad motherboard or processor but I could be wrong. Edit 2: More terrific benchmark eye candy...... https://i.imgur.com/iHstpbb.png [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Feb 2020 06:31 PM PST Since I last played games on a PC around 16 years ago I have always wanted to get back into it. Console never felt right. So yesterday I thought "Fuck it" and decided to get it done. Got everything in the pictures (case is a edit: Corsair Carbide 100r NOT coolermaster) for less than £700!. Why are AIOs so popular on reddit? Posted: 01 Feb 2020 05:31 PM PST A tower CPU cooler is quieter, cheaper, can't have a catastrophic failure (leak), just as effective at cooling... what am I missing? [link] [comments]
I've never built a pc and need help on good parts to get :) Posted: 02 Feb 2020 12:41 PM PST hello, I was planning on building this pc since fortnite is one of the main games I play https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P93DomkpgSk But I don't know if its a good build since im a noob. the build is 300$ but I can extend my budget to 500$-600$ at most. Why is my PC still loud even when I got new Noctua Posted: 02 Feb 2020 12:41 PM PST Ever since I boight my pc fan noise has been an issue so after being recommended Noctua I boight a noctua LH 9I low profile cpu fan and a noctua NF P12 redux 1300 PWM high performance cooling fan 4 pin 1300 RPM case fan. And my PC still gets pretty loud and no where close to the silent the reviews claim. I think its the case fan that gets really loud, its omly on GTA omline not even games that would fully test my PC. Anyone any recommendations for another case fan I can try which I can hopefully find oit if its a PC issue thanks. Also its not the gpu making the noise My specs 8gb of ram Corsair 550 or 650 TXM platinum certified PSU RTX 2060 Intel i7 3770 CPU [link] [comments]
Spilled some coke on my keyboard and now it's got some problems. Posted: 02 Feb 2020 12:24 PM PST I don't know if this is the right place to post this. A few days ago I spilled some coca-cola on my table and a small amount of it flowed on my corsair k70 mk. 2 mechanical keyboard with brown switches. A bunch of crazy stuff started happening like the resolution changing, windows minimizing and maximizing and volume changing if i recall correctly. First I unplugged the keyboard, removed the keycaps, wiped it with some paper towels and left it on its side to dry. The next day when I plugged it in everything seemed fine at first but then I noticed that when I pressed some select buttons they usually among other things pressed other buttons. All the buttons on the left (esc, §, tab, caps, shit, and control), f12, the "lock key" and 7 on the numberpad had these problems. In addition sometimes the lights would go out, except for some keys which went red for some reason. control and the lock key seemed to mess with the lights too in addition to pressing other keys. After this I disassembled the keyboard by unscrewing the screws on the front and taking the back out. Then I wiped the circuitry behind the buttons and the plastic back part with a dry towel. I left it to dry upside down and disassembled like this and then put it back together and tested it again in about 24 hours. Nothing changed. It's been about a day since then and it was drying upside down that time too. It still doesn't work and I really don't know what to do anymore. Also I'm not a native English speaker so sorry for any errors. [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 Feb 2020 01:50 PM PST I just got around to building my new PC, and everything went fine(i guess) until now, and i entered the BIOS, but my M.2 SSD isn't showing up. I have also a SATA SSD, and that is showing up alright. The SSD in question is a GIGABYTE 128 GB PCI Express 3.0 x4 M.2 2280, and the board is an MSI X470 Gaming Pro Max. Anything i might be missing out on? [link] [comments]
Having trouble with my first PC build Posted: 02 Feb 2020 04:03 AM PST Good morning everyone, I'm having a problem with my first PC build and it's stressing me quite a lot. I've spent around 2 days trying to fix the problem but sadly I've come to no solution. Under the help of my good friend who has built multiple computers before and Linus's First Person FOV build, I built my first computer in just 3 hours (Which is good for my first time if I say so) When I tried booting up my computer I had my keyboard plugged into the computer and had a USB with windows on it also in the back of the computer. With this I heard all my fans turn on and I thought all was well until nothing happened.. My mouse and keyboard's RGB lights would turn on for at most 3 seconds before turning off and my monitor would stay on no display. I have tried with both display ports and hdmi but neither worked. I have tried different solutions like changing the ram slots form 2 and 4 to 1 and 3 or leaving 1 ram stick in but that didn't change anything. I have tried resetting the cmos battery but that also did nothing too. I'm quite honestly stumped and have guessed the problem is most likely from the PSU. If you can spare the time please help me with this as I hope my first build wont be a disaster. tl:dr: After building my first build and booting it up, all the fans would turn on but the keyboard would receive no power and monitor would say no display. Replacing i5 4440, GTX 970 etc. with new parts Posted: 02 Feb 2020 04:45 AM PST Here's what I have: I'm thinking of getting something like this (I used Logical Increments for reference): I don't care much about brands. Although I do use Shadowplay sometimes and I don't know if there's something similar for AMD GPUs (specifically the aability to record the last X minutes of gameplay, very useful). Game developer looking to upgrade CPU, what should I get? Posted: 02 Feb 2020 01:55 PM PST I am looking towards upgrading my PC, in particular CPU, what would you recommend? Mainly worried about compatibility/fitting etc, I dont know that much about hardware. I installed RAM/GPU/Cooler before but thats it. I am a game developer and I need a pretty good PC for both developing and recording. I'm looking towards spending max EUR 500 or so but suggestions in the <1000 range are welcome.

Are there any CPU coolers for the threadripper that don't exceed 140mm in height? Posted: 02 Feb 2020 01:52 PM PST Really don't want to use a AIO..... That dope wraith cooler is 160mm.... [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 Feb 2020 07:04 AM PST After some intense research, I think I have found a build that suits my needs (mostly gaming, AAA games, 1440p, 144Hz). The build: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/266wk6 CPU | [AMD Ryzen 5 3600 3.6 GHz 6-Core Processor CPU Cooler | [be quiet! Pure Rock 51.7 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler] Motherboard | [MSI B450 GAMING PRO CARBON AC ATX AM4 Motherboard] Memory | [G.Skill Ripjaws V 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3600 Memory] Storage | [Crucial P1 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive] Video Card | [MSI GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER 8 GB GAMING X TRIO Video Card] Case | [Fractal Design Meshify S2 ATX Mid Tower Case] Power Supply | [BitFenix Formula Gold 650 W 80+ Gold Certified ATX Power Supply]õ Comments/questions: I chose the MSI B450 Gaming Pro Carbon AC as I need the Wi-Fi. For PSU cooler I was also considering the Cryorig M9 Plus as it's cheaper than the be quiet! Pure Rock where I am. I chose the MSI GeForce RTX 2070 Super 8 GB Gaming X Trio as it probably has better thermals than other 2070 supers. As the GPU is quite bulky I chose the Fractal Design Meshify S2, but would the build fit in NZXT 510i? Would I also need to buy some aftermarket fans for the case? So, am I on the right track? Thanks! [link] [comments]
Did the salesman up sell me or did he provide good advice? (build advice) Posted: 02 Feb 2020 01:51 PM PST Today I went into the computer store, intending to buy a new mobo (asrock b450) and processor (2700x), to put into my old gateway fx 6860. However, based only on the fact that he said a good WiFi 5 chip would cost the same amount as the mobo upgrade, I bought the MSI b450 gaming pro copper ac mobo instead. I then of course needed to buy ram for the mobo, he recommended Corsair vengeance 3000mhz, 2x8 gb. From there, he mentioned that no new mobo would fit into my gateway case, due to the hole patterns (or something like that). So, I ended up buying a new case (deepcool matrexx 55), and then from there a new power supply (evga 600 gd) and three deep cool rf120 fans. Essentially I walked out with a new build, but I will be using the Radeon 5770 gpu from my old gateway and my own ssds. I paid $750 Canadian after tax. What do you think, did he give good advice? Are there any areas I could have saved money on? Here is the part picker list

Posted: 02 Feb 2020 09:57 AM PST Only built my pc last month so very new to this. Glass was about an eighth full and spilt on my desk and the water trickled off my desk a little on my pc. I Thought the water was not enough to do anything but after about 10 minuets the pc went dark screen. Everything in the pc still looks like it's working and when it went black everything was still on and looked like it was working including the gpu. I opened it up and I even didn't see any water in the pc. I have no idea what to do or where to start in trying to find the problem and fixing it. Does angling the antennae on my wireless receiver help? Posted: 02 Feb 2020 01:22 PM PST I have a receiver with two antennae, do I point them away from each other, or towards the router, or straight up, or does it not matter at all? [link] [comments]
Any way to decrease GPU temps? Posted: 02 Feb 2020 01:19 PM PST I have a Red Devil RX 5700 XT and while I'm sure it's temps are decent (Junction 90 degrees under load), I'd love to lower the temps a bit. Obviously I could change the fan curve but are there any other ways to lower temps? [link] [comments]

Posted: 02 Feb 2020 01:10 PM PST For some reason my PSU has come with an American plug but I need a British one. I'm going to buy a lead like this for my PSU: Lead Link%20PC%20PERIPHERALS~1020%20(PLA)%20PC%20PERIPHERALS%20ad%20group~Exact&mctag=gg_goog_7904&kwid=GOOGLE&device=c&ds_kids=92700038411102086&tgtid=1020%20(PLA)%20PC%20PERIPHERALS&&gclid=CjwKCAiAg9rxBRADEiwAxKDTuhU_HkF2BtUfxiUf_Tjc7oAbkOwUMHOK2sY0QauKSpeLi0JTxxhaqxoCZbMQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds). I was told I will need to change the voltage of my PSU. How will I go about doing this? Is it safe to change from American to British? Could not changing the voltage cause damage? Best motherboards for 3rd gen Ryzen 3000 series processors. Posted: 02 Feb 2020 12:59 PM PST Hello, I am looking for a recommendation for a motherboard to go with my new 3700X processor I have seen some videos and read some stuff however quite a lot of it is quite old before the X570 were properly out and had been tested and before the prices had gone dropped, so I want to make sure I am on the right lines. This is my planned system without motherboard: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/LgMH8M This is what i would ideally like out of the motherboard in rough order of importance
So far I am thinking of either the "ASRock X570 Phantom Gaming 4" or the "MSI B450 GAMING PRO CARBON AC" are these good choices? I don't really have a hard budget but I would like to get good value for money. Edit: This will be bought from the UK so the board must be available and reasonably priced over here.
