How is Nvidia so good at keeping their new GPUs a secret while Intel and AMD engineering samples show up several months before launch?

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 07:41 AM PST

It seems odd to me that Nvidia can just pull new cards out of their ass without samples popping up on Geekbench, userbenchmark, Sisoft, 3DMark, etc. However AMD and Intel have their stuff show up on these sites up to a year before products launch. Tiger Lake U, for instance, first showed up on Userbenchmark four months ago. How is Nvidia so good at keeping secrets while making sure OEMs have the ability to integrate their chips into new products?

Thermal Grizzly Carbonaut Mini-Review (after 6 months of usage)

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 08:50 PM PST

Full album here and here is the setup I use: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Ukee/saved/nfm4CJ

Let me preface this by saying that I first bought and installed the carbonaut on 2019/06/18, so I've been using it for about 6 months and 17 days. I also have the receipt as proof.

The carbonaut did a decent job in my ITX case with my 2700x where the temperature would reach 80c+ on load, but that's expected since I am using an ITX case and airflow is not as good as your typical ATX case. I undervolted my CPU so temps were around 75c+ on load and was pretty satisfied with it, at least its not thermal throttling. The ambient temperature here is usually around 30c+ (I live in Malaysia so ambient temps always fluctuate around 30-33c).

Now how did I end up with a teared up carbonaut? Well I just took off the cooler (a Scythe Shuriken 3) and a part of the thermal pad was stuck to the cooler. It was pretty much too late for me to even attempt to fix this cause once it teared up, it was pretty much useless. Which also brings up another problem with the thermal pad, it was super thin and flimsy. They can easily tear up if not properly handled. That's why I have my tweezer around with me during this process.

Looking at this, you can see visible heat marks (the almost circular pattern) on the thermal pad. The thermal pad had pretty much hardened at this point, I used a tweezer to try and slowly peel it off but I only managed to peel slices of it, which led to this. The pads on the heat mark I mentioned earlier was even harder to peel off, they were pretty much stuck onto the CPU, I actually had to use my finger nails to kind of scratch it off. Ironically, they mentioned in the carbonaut manual that the thermal pad supposedly does not harden. Final result of the thermal pad

I'm not sure if it was my mistake for not pre-heating the pads first before taking the cooler off or it was actually the thermal pads fault itself. All I know is I'm going to avoid using thermal pads for awhile. Thank you for reading.

Pre-Registration for new Left Handed Edition Razer Naga coming this year

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 07:59 AM PST

For any lefties out there whose 2014 Left Handed Edition Razer Naga is dead or dying or if you've always felt it would be easier to have a dedicated left handed gaming mouse (or you physically need one), you can go here to pre-register to let Razer know you're interested in purchasing a left handed Naga if they put it into production.

Edit: It seems some people (oddly enough even lefties) believe the mouse is meant for the right hand only.

If you can use a mouse with your right hand more proficiently than your left, odds are you're right handed. If you can use a mouse more proficiently with your left, odds are you're left handed. If you can use a mouse with equal proficiency in both hands, you're ambidextrous.

If a right handed person using a mouse with their right hand isn't odd, why is it odd for a left handed person to use a mouse with their left hand? I'm truly perplexed.
