Please don't post involved questions that are better suited to a [Build Help], [Build Ready] or [Build Complete] post. Examples of questions:

    • Is this RAM compatible with my motherboard?
    • I'm thinking of getting a GTX 1070. Which one should I get?
    • I'm on a very tight budget and I'm looking for a case < $50

[DISCUSSION] Can we please stop downvoting people asking questions?

As a regular on this sub, it annoys me that people just simply asking a question or maybe being misinformed get downvoted. We're here to help each other out, not to prove ourselves right.

    GTX or RTX?

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 07:19 AM PST

Is there a big difference between the GTX and RTX other that ray tracing?

Like i mean is 1650super do better that the 2070super?

I care for more fps than quality so that mean i wont usually turn on Ray tracing on RTX. In that case, is the GTX series better for me? You know like the 1650ti

HyperX Cloud II Causing BSOD In Windows 10 When Using USB, Issue Ongoing For Over 1 Year

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 11:25 AM PST

A while back, I bought a HyperX Cloud II headset after reading a lot of reviews, it seemed like this was an affordable headset with good sound quality and a decent microphone.

About four months ago, I switched from using the 3.5mm connector to the USB connector because the 3.5 cable wasn't long enough for my new desk setup (the USB cord is insanely long). When one plugs in the USB connector, Windows recognizes the device and sets it up on the device manager, no problem. Shortly after doing this, I noticed BSODs occurring with frustrating regularity. I had, at the time, no idea how to actually check what was causing the BSODs.

I formatted my computer on Dec 27th and did a completely fresh reinstall of Windows, thinking it might help. It did not. Eventually I got so fed up I started reading up on what I can do to determine the cause of the issue, which led me into the Windows Event Viewer. What I found there was surprising.

Since December 27th, I have had 16 BSODs, and in each and every case the event log has two critical errors back to back:

Critical Error: The device HID-compliant headset (location (unknown)) is offline due to a user-mode driver crash. Windows will attempt to restart the device 4 more times. Please contact the device manufacturer for more information about this problem.

Critical Error: A problem has occurred with one or more user-mode drivers and the hosting process has been terminated. This may temporarily interrupt your ability to access the devices.

On 1/25 I updated the headset's firmware to the latest version. Between 1/25 and 1/26, I had three BSODs, all with the identical critical errors as above. At this point, I started looking at the HyperX subreddit and whatever other forums I could find, and I found a surprising number of people with the exact same issue and exact same Event Log critical errors... and it had been going on for a year. In some of the posts, HyperX reps have responded to customers, requested more data, requested private messages, but the fact is that it's been over a year without any fix.

    My post

Since I made my post I just flat out unhooked the HyperX Cloud IIs and have them sitting on my headset stand. Immediately I noticed my start up time to get into Windows 10 was faster, and since then I haven't had any BSODs or critical errors in my event viewer.

It doesn't seem like HyperX is taking this seriously at all, so anyone thinking of buying this particular headset and using the USB connection, be aware of what you're probably going to be running into.

$1500(ish) Build - am I compromising on the right components?

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 01:19 PM PST

    PCPartPicker Part List

First build. Building a computer has been on my bucket list for years, and I'm finally in a spot where I have enough saved to justify the purchase. I'm pretty excited to get started.

The heaviest workloads will be data analysis (mostly CPU and memory-bound computation), digital illustration and video editing (all Adobe Creative Suite - thus the Intel processor and 32 GB RAM), and light gaming.

My question is mainly on where I've splurged (do I really need that NZXT CPU cooler?) and compromised (am I going to regret the 9600k or 1660 Super? Leveling up either one pushes the budget up considerably...)

    Any input appreciated. Thanks!

    Hey guys -

I'm curious what you all think about buying a 2018 power supply vs a newer one. Do you think the technology has increased to warrant going for a 2019 or 2020 one vs the one below?

    Let me know, thanks!

Planning to build my first PC, is the ryzen stock cooler good?

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 12:28 PM PST

I saw while reading the parts description it has a stock cooler, is it any good? I'm not planning any overclocking at the moment as I am new to PC building and I'm not quite comfortable doing it. I'll drop my full parts list if anyone has suggestions or wants more info

    Ryzen 5 3600 or 2600 or 2600x

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 12:11 PM PST

So the main thing about this is that im not in the US I'm in Mexico so prices are different:

    3600:213$

    2600:128$

    2600x:150$

Also I've heard ryzen 4 is coming 2nd half 2020 so i dont know if it's worth waiting

Edit: Is the increase in price justified by the increase in performance?

    Edit2: ryzen 3600x: 240$

Help Finalizing Parts List For My First Build

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 12:08 PM PST

    Build Ready:

Have you read the sidebar and rules? (Please do)

    Yes

What is your intended use for this build? The more details the better.

Some AAA games such as Modern Warfare, Outer Worlds, etc. Photoshop/Illustrator. Indy Games. I would love to try VR in the future but don't need the ability right now.

If gaming, what kind of performance are you looking for? (Screen resolution, framerate, game settings)

    1440p, medium-high settings, hopefully a high framerate.

What is your budget (ballpark is okay)?

    Around $1500-$1600

In what country are you purchasing your parts?

    United States

Post a draft of your potential build here (specific parts please). Consider formatting your parts list. Don't ask to be spoonfed a build (read the rules!).

Provide any additional details you wish below.

I am also planning on getting a Corsair Commander Pro so I will be able to connect all the fans. Is one Commander Pro enough for this build (6 RGB fans and one regular fan)? And if I wanted to eventually install an AIO would I have enough ports on my motherboard to install it? This is my first build and I'm having a hard time figuring out fan configuration lol.

    Thanks!

What's the resolution baseline in 2020?

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 01:41 PM PST

are -MOST- people looking to push 1080p at 60 FPS? I guess what i mean is, is that still an acceptable measure of gameplay for most people?

it seems like a lot of reviewers and youtubers and enthusiast builders are trying so hard to hit 2k 144 fps or 4k 60 fps and so it seems that 1080p 60 is just...."budget" and terrible, in a way?

as my card (GTX 1070) gets a little older, I wonder if downscaling from trying to downscale from 2k 144 to 1080p 144 is like....a sin.

it kind of makes me feel like i need a new card because its not good enough, but maybe thats just a fallacy.

Build Help: First timer switching from console

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 01:34 PM PST

    Build Help:

Hi all. Looking to build my first PC to replace my console (ps4) and join the master race. I also do some light development work at home so I tried putting together a build strong enough to handle both dev work and play games.

For now 1080p at 60+fps is what I'm looking for, just want to enjoy advantages that PC has over console. My monitor is a 24" 75hz so I don't think I'd be able to push much further than what it supports unless I replace it.

I'm looking to spend no more than $800 U.S. (including tax). I put this build together:

My biggest debate was between the 3600 and a lower-mid tier GPU with goal of upgrading in the future or 2600 with higher tier GPU but I was told that CPUs are harder to replace so that's where I'm at right now.

Just hoping for any suggestions or improvements (or ways to save money). Thanks@

About to give up on my 5700XT and AMD due to driver issues.

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 01:15 PM PST

This is sad as I was so excited about this card. It's stats are so beefy, and in runs great (I got the sapphire OC version) I really wanted to give AMD a chance as Nvida having real competition is better for all of us gamers. The darn thing keeps making my remote desktop connection I need for work freeze up multiple times a day, and about twice a month decides all of a sudden that it will only make about four resolutions available to me under display adapter, all half what they should be. Google has gotten me nowhere, so I'm about to give up as I've got just 3 days left on my amazon return window.

Anyone want to talk me out of this or suggest something? Otherwise thanks for listening to my rant and apparently AMD still has stability issues, 20 years after the last time I gave them a chance, so beware.

Need an SSD for an older board (for my Dad)

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 01:09 PM PST

Hey guys, I need some help.

My old man has this board in his computer Gigabyte h97m-d3h

Basically it needs a bit of updating but there is no point in getting him anything newer as he just wouldn't use it to its capability and as such would be a waste of all of our time and his money.

I've found some better RAM for it as he's only got 4gb at 1333mhz in there at the moment (I know) but that's the easy bit. He's only got one mechanical drive for general storage and his OS.

I'm just a bit confused as to which SSDs would be compatible with this board as I think it's just standard SATA.

Any pointers would be appreciated, thanks in advance.
