    • Is this RAM compatible with my motherboard?
    • I'm thinking of getting a GTX 1070. Which one should I get?
    • I'm on a very tight budget and I'm looking for a case < $50

I built a PC case out of wood

    Posted: 07 Jan 2020 05:08 PM PST

    https://imgur.com/gallery/eIKLjQp

*UPDATE* Since I didn't give much info.

    CPU TEMPS

    https://imgur.com/gallery/mqe862g

After 1 hour of running Prime95, the max temp was 68, with an avg of 62.

I basically built the case to fit around the Noctua NH-D15, and a full-size GPU.

There is one 120mm intake on the bottom, and one 120mm exhaust on the top.

Some of the parts I reused from a previous build, like the PSU. I know it's overkill. I also forgot to cut a hole for it, so it's mounted fan up.

The wood used is Hard Maple, finished with danish oil.

Weighs 28 pounds. 14.5" long, 9" wide, and 15" tall.

8 GB Ram installed but only 3.95 GB ram being detected

    Posted: 08 Jan 2020 10:11 AM PST

Hey guys, relatively new to pc building here but have small experience in building. I just recently built a new pc and for some reason, only 3.95 GB ram is being detected despite there being 8 GB ram installed. I know that this question has been asked multiple times but I think mines is different because Windows doesn't say 8.00 GB (3.95 GB Usable) rather it straight up says 3.95 GB installed ram. I've checked through CPU-Z and it says 8Gbytes of RAM is installed yet it doesn't seem to be utilized by windows. Hopefully you guys could help me out.

Here are the solutions that I've tried: 1). Reseat RAM, CPU, GPU, CMOS Battery 2). MSCONFIG > Boot Options > Advanced Options > Maximum Memory

PC SPECS: CPU: Ryzen 5 2600 GPU: Gigabyte RX 570 4 GB Motherboard: Gigabyte B450 Aorus Elite RAM: EUDAR 4x2 8 GB RAM

Extra points that I may have missed:

I've tried putting the sticks on different slots and double checking if they're on the proper slots

    I've checked if I installed 32 Bit

When I use one stick only, it says 3.5 GB Ram Installed but when I add another one, it changes to 3.9 GB Ram Installed

MSI B450 TOMAHAWK No video output, Ryzen 3700

    Posted: 08 Jan 2020 09:30 AM PST

    Hello,

I built a PC few months back, and today I got no video output on boot.
It´s MSI B450 TOMAHAWK and the EZ Debug VGA led is on.

(In manual, it says NO GPU / GPU FAILURE)

(Disclaimer, already flashed newest BIOS update, moved to second x8 PCIE instead of x16 etc..)
Also switched PSU branch to another, not a difference.

There are few topics about this, but most common failure is PSU power / not properly connected etc.

But, My GPU - EVGA GTX 970 SC has a neat feature, if you don´t plug the power cables to the GPU and leave it only with PCIE power, fans will spin and it will display output trough hdmi/displayport: "Check your GPU power connection", (or something like that). Which is not happening. It is safe for me to assume that my PSU is working just fine and buy new GPU ? Or test on another mobo is neccessary in this case.

Switch to AMD had been an insane journey so far.

    Posted: 08 Jan 2020 09:53 AM PST

About a month ago I was able to finally upgrade my PC, from a 6 year old i3 3140 and 960. Seeing AMD get great reviews for the price I decided that was the route I wanted to take. I was able to get a 3700x, 5700 xt Sapphire nitro+, trident z neo 3600c18d, msi mpg x570 gaming edge wifi, and a 550w psu.

I got everything from Newegg and put it all together within a week. Immediately on the first night I started getting random PC resets with no warning or info as to why. The error in event viewer is Kerbal 41 (63). I posted in a few places and everyone and their mother swore it was the psu, ok then. So I got a EVGA bronze+80 750w. Within an hour same things happened again. Doing some research I learned I couldn't enable XMP at all. The mobo defaulted to 2133 and wrong timings. When I went into BIOS to turn it on and restart it the CPU debug light comes on and the PC won't post at all, I'd have to reset cmos in order to undo changes.

After some reading some users suggested an RMA. So I did. I just got the new cpu back yesterday and boom, was able to turn on xmp no issues at all. Everything seemed fixed and was working flawlessly. However, when I went to play the new cod I was able to play for almost a whole match until a crash happened. Full restart as before. Same error and all. So now I think the main issue is that the cpu is getting to hot. It was at 80c during gaming. Ordered a Corsair h100i pro 240mm. I'm hoping this fixes it. Bios is fully updated, did that day 1. I'm not sure what else to do.

What does no hyperthreading support mean?

    Posted: 08 Jan 2020 11:07 AM PST

Sorry if it is a dumb question but I looked into Gigabyte B450 AORUS ELITE 1.0 motherboard, and it says that it doesn't support hyperthreading, so does that mean that I can't use ryzen 5 3600 with it?

Upgrade advice: Ryzen 2700 or 3600?

    Posted: 08 Jan 2020 07:58 AM PST

Ok, so I want to upgrade my CPU, my current specs are:

-CPU: Ryzen 2200g (With a very dangerous OC from base clock to 103mhz) -GPU: Saphire RX570 Pulse Mini -Ram: 2x8GB Kingston 2400mhz (overclocked to 3000mhz) -Mobo: Gigabyte A320m-s2h -PSU:Corsair CX750

I do plan to further upgrade the MOBO to a 550 series when it comes out this year, or to a 450 if I stick with the 2700. Right now my priority is a better CPU.

I want it for streaming, that's why I'm not sticking 100% with the 3600. I play at 1080p and I'd like to stream at that same resolution, but I can get down to 720p, as I'm used with my current build (even if some newer games can't really be streamed), as long as it's fluid.

The main reasons I'm considering the 2700 is the extra 2 cores (8 vs 6), but I'm not really sure if the improvements with the zen2 architecture allows for Better streaming even with less cores, or if I'd be better off with 8 cores (which btw, are cheaper where I live). I'm not considering the 2700x because at that pricepoint I don't feel it's worth not getting a 3600 (being basically the same price). Also I pretend to use the stock cooler for a month or so, when I upgrade both the mobo and get an AIO (mostly for the looks).

    Thanks in advance guys.

Error messags on PC part picker? "The motherboard M.2 slot #1 shares bandwidth with SATA 6.0 Gb/s ports. When the M.2 slot is populated, two SATA 6.0 Gb/s ports are disabled."

    Posted: 08 Jan 2020 09:05 AM PST

Hello, I am in the process of building a PC and got this error message. I have no idea what it means, just that it involves the storage and motherboard. I chose and NVME instead of a standard SSD and this happened. Should I be worried? Please note, I'm an absolute noob at this, so please explain it in terms that would make sense

    Thank you so much

PC crashed after turning on second monitor...

    Posted: 08 Jan 2020 12:01 PM PST

So I build my first PC about a month ago with absolutely no knowledge at all thanks to reddit, YouTube and google. When I got back home today I turned on my PC, turned on one monitor, put in my password and everything was working fine. Then I turned on my second monitor and the PC crashed and won't even turn on (nothing happens at all when I press the power button). Has anyone experienced a similar issue or have some advice?

R5 3600 + B450 Aorus Elite suddenly switched crashed and is refusing to boot

    Posted: 08 Jan 2020 11:54 AM PST

So my pc has been working fine ever since I built it about a month ago. The RAM has been running with XMP enabled in slots 2 & 4 for about a week now (It didn't work until I updated my BIOS). Parts list here.

I was playing a game on it when it suddenly crashed and now the cpu ez debug led is on. I have tried jumping the clear_cmos pins and I removed the cmos battery for about 5 mins and it still wouldn't boot. I've left my pc on for about an hour now and I am starting to worry I'll have to RMA my motherboard.

Please help me here. If any additional information is required I'll reply as soon as I can.

    3600Mhz RAM + 3600 or 3200MHz RAM + 3600X

    Posted: 08 Jan 2020 05:49 AM PST

Hey guys I'm thinking about installing a Ryzen 5 3600 with some 3600 MHz RAM on a B450 Tomahawk Max.

I heard about a type of "synergie" when the Ryzen 5 3600 is paired with 3600MHz RAM.

While looking up the best fit I noticed that without the effects of this "Synergie" 3600MHZ CL18 RAM is just as fast as 3200MHz CL16 RAM. While the price difference is 20€.

With this price difference I could get a 3600X and get 3200MHz CL16 RAM instead.

What would be better? How much of a difference does this "Synergie" even make?

    Split 6+2 Pin Cables

    Posted: 08 Jan 2020 01:41 PM PST

    Hi there

I'm trying to cable up my pc and have run into something that doesnt make sense, I'm using a Corsair rm750x and with it came several 6+2pin cable, now my gigabyte geforce 2070 super has a 6pin and an 8pin entry, but the 6+2 cables that are labeled PCIe by the way only have 2 6+2 pin endpoint, do I just plug in both of them with the additional 2 pin hanging loose from one of the endpoints? Or do I need to use 2 Cables?

    Thanks in advance

Optimal PC for a non-intensive gamer?

    Posted: 08 Jan 2020 01:40 PM PST

Hi, I want to build a PC mainly to play games. Thing is, I don't really play graphics-intensive games like RDR2 or the like, mainly strategy/indie. So I was thinking of building a PC without graphics card and to just use integrated graphics to do the rendering to save costs. Is this possible? Recommendations for CPUs/builds? Looking to play on a 1080p monitor.

8pin and 4 pin cpu slot?

    Posted: 08 Jan 2020 11:59 AM PST

The motherboard I'm using in my current build is the x570-A Pro. The cpu has room for both an 8 pin connector and a 4 pin connector. The power supply I'm using only has an 8 pin connector. Will this work? I cant seem to find a psu that has both an 8 pin and a 4 pin connector, but I dont want to fuck anything up on accident as it's my first time building by myself. •specs on the rest of the build: ryzen 5 3600k, x570-a pro, and 16 gigs of ram. Msi B450 Tomahawk, still worth it ? for R5 2600 and future R5 3600

    Posted: 08 Jan 2020 01:20 PM PST

Hey, I am thinking of going Msi B450 tomahawk OR Asus Prime b450M-A (https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/PRIME-B450M-A/). I am going to use Ryzen 5 2600 (non-x) and OC it to 2600X's clocks. (not too much but just enough to get a little bit better performance) I was wondering which one, if either one, is good enough for it and be support able for my future upgrade to Ryzen 5 3600 ? Any help would be appreciated.

I built a PC in 2015, now I am finally upgrading. Any advice would be appreciated.

    Posted: 08 Jan 2020 01:14 PM PST

I built this PC in 2015 and have not upgraded anything since then (except the GPU). Here are the current specs:

    Motherboard: MSI Z97 GAMING 5

    CPU: Intel i5-4690K 3.50 GHz

GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1070 8 GB

    Memory: Corsair 2x4GB DDR3 1600 MHz

    Storage: 250 GB SSD + 1TB

    PSU: Corsair CX750M

Since I built this one I have not been following the industry really do not know where to upgrade. The PC is getting slower and during gaming the memory is usually at 99%. I would like to be able to play the big games at 1440p, 60 fps. What upgrades do you recommend?

I am about to order parts to build a pc with my son! I have done alot of research, and would like to know if there is anything here that will be incompatible or would otherwise not work. Also, if there is a cheaper video card, I'd appreciate. Seems hefty, but if its compatible thats fine. Just want to make sure it all works!

PLEASE let me know! Very excited :)

    Thoughts on a prebuilt?

    Posted: 08 Jan 2020 01:03 PM PST

I built my PC last time but looking at the prices now they seem to be about the same for a prebuilt vs parts and putting it together myself. I found what I think is a decent build on Newegg and I'd like your guys thoughts because you helped a ton last time. I mainly play Rocket League right now but I'd like to be able to run some AAA games in the future. I currently have a triple monitor set up running a GTX 770 4 gb with an FX-8350. After the new PC I'll probably look into a widescreen monitor as well at some point. I also run a Plex server on my main rig now with about 8 tbs but mainly external drives which is fine because the case on that build doesn't seem to have much room. Thanks in advance for your input.

Another build I was looking at.

PLEASE POWER DOWN AND CONNECT PCIe POWER CABLE(s) FOR GRAPHICS CARD

I put in my new 2060 super graphics card in my PC and I plugged in the 8 pin PCIe power connector, and it still says to power it down and connect them.
