Posted: 04 Jan 2020 11:11 PM PST Otherwise you can rip your cpu out of socket beause it's glued to your cooler by some cold ass thermal paste. Certainly scary, but not always damaging. I had it happen to me a couple days ago when disassembling my pc to show my nephew in law how to build a pc. Luckily, nothing was damaged. Just an FYI lol [link] [comments]
Posted: 05 Jan 2020 10:45 AM PST Build Complete!Hello everyone and Happy New Year! First of all, I want to thank you for your help and information. Not only from my posts, just reading other people's posts and builds can be very helpful. I've been gaming since I was ~6 years old, now I'm 23 and I managed to afford a PC all by myself which I'm really proud of. Once again, thank you all and best of luck in 2020! Posted: 04 Jan 2020 10:41 PM PST A big thanks to this community for the help, encouragement, and resources to turn 7 years of dreaming of building my own PC to action and success. A little thanks to my dad for spending part of his visit to help me put it all together. Here's to learning more, and doing it bigger and better in a few years. part list Pics [link] [comments]
Posted: 05 Jan 2020 02:21 AM PST After months and months of research and planning for my first build, I finally did it. The build itself took me just under 4.5 hours. First boot was a success. Naturally, I was fucking pumped. Then, when I went to do the BIOS, I accidentally selected XMP1 and set my RAM to 320mhz (Stupid me). Needless to say, it did not boot into windows. Fans spinning at full speed and black screen for a good 10 mins before I realised something was wrong. I hopped onto the sub's Discord, and asked for help. I honestly thought I had bricked my motherboard. Luckily, a friendly user guided me through a CMOS reset and to set up my RAM frequency. That power button press was the most anxious I've ever been. And lift off, it booted up. I just wanted to thank this lovely community who helped me through the entire process, from hardware selection, to actually assembly to troubleshooting. I would never have had the courage and know how to do this of it weren't for you guys, ESPECIALLY THAT GUY ON DISCORD. And to all the first timers out there, don't be afraid to jump right in. This sub and it's discord are your friend. Indian YouTube videos too. Also, don't be afraid to press down on your motherboard. I did not expect to use as much force as I did when installing my cooler and my GPU. My PSU also kept popping out at the back cause I didn't tighten it enough. And learn from my mistakes, never set an XMP profile and change RAM frequency manually. Much love to you all!! Specs: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/dFMVBZ pics (Cable management kinda sucks, have no idea how to route the GPU PCIE cable's so they are out of the way.) EDIT: The part list prices aren't very accurate, I had to manually enter in the price for the GPU. I bought from a physical store and I'm from Asia so the prices here are kinda jacked up. I bought everything on the list for about $2100 give or take after conversion [link] [comments]
Posted: 05 Jan 2020 02:15 PM PST Background: Had a perfectly running rig but wanted to switch out the stock Wraith Prism cooler for an Arctic Freezer 34 eSports (modded with two Noctua NF-P12 redux-1700 PWM fans). I had a little mishap when taking out the Wraith Prism as my screwdriver struck the mobo (though no visible damage). I also encountered the same issue that others with MSI boards have had (see here and here): the AM4 standoffs don't poke far enough through the holes in the mounting brackets. Like others, I managed this issue by holding the backplate against the back of the mobo and applying extra force to just barely get all four thumbscrews to thread. My PC would not power on after finishing the install. It powers up for a split second but then cycles on/off repeatedly until I turn the back PSU switch to off. During this cycling, the PSU audibly clicks and its logo light flashes on/off repeatedly, all connected fans start/stop repeatedly, the GPU lights flash on/off repeatedly, and the EZ Debug mobo lights cycle between 1) top light red + other three off; and 2) top light off + other three red. I have some old build components so I disconnected my current PSU to try my old PSU. Same cycling (fans and lights quickly turning on/off repeatedly). All this makes me think I somehow damaged my motherboard or the CPU itself when trying to attach the Freezer 34 cooler. Thoughts? Suggestions on further troubleshooting? I don't have a backup AMD CPU or mobo. Thanks in advance. E: typo. [link] [comments]
2020 build (before buying help?) Posted: 05 Jan 2020 11:19 AM PST Hey guys put together a build looking for help if there is any changes that could be made to achieve same level of performance with room for future upgrades? https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/G4cx9G Any advice welcome [link] [comments]
Does anyone know what the best fan layout for the NZXT h510 is? Posted: 05 Jan 2020 06:16 AM PST It comes with one exhaust Fan in the back, one exhaust on top, and two spaces for fans up front [link] [comments]
Posted: 05 Jan 2020 12:45 PM PST I received a 3700x for Christmas and I need help figuring out the AMD parts (coming from an i5 6500). I don't intend to overclock as I don't play a crazy amount of games nowadays. Any suggestions on the following? Motherboard: I was thinking of the b450 tomahawk max but I noticed it doesn't have a whole lot of USB ports on the back. Any good suggestions on other boards that are ryzen 3000 ready (little to no BIOS issues)? Price doesn't matter as much if it has enough USB ports (6 or more preferred) and is an ATX board. Wifi/bluetooth isn't an issue since I can just buy the part later. Ram: I know higher speed is better for Ryzen but is there an optimal speed to use? PSU: If I'm going to upgrade to maybe a 2080 super or something in the future, would 750 watts do well? Case: There are WAY too many cases to choose from. I just want something like a white mid tower that's decently quiet, dust filters, and isn't a pain with wire management. Anything under $200 is fine. Edit: Budget: there is no limit (as long as it satisfies my needs) but if there needs to be hard numbers, I'd say no more than $1500 for total build. Any other suggestions are welcome. Thanks so much! [link] [comments]
Posted: 05 Jan 2020 12:32 PM PST So I decided to upgrade my current (pretty old) build with something new as it was struggling with a few games. I am hoping that everything here will work together well. If anyone sees any issues please let me know! My New Build: VS My Old PC:

Posted: 05 Jan 2020 02:04 PM PST Hello, I want to build a work station. It's only to be used for work, photo editing and compiling so no gaming performance needed. CPU wise a Ryzen 7 seemed a good choice, however, it doesn't come with integrated graphics. So what I am asking for is what graphics card should I get if I just want to be able to display, literally. I want the CPU doing all the work if possible. [link] [comments]
B450 Tomahawk no Wifi, so what do I need? Posted: 05 Jan 2020 06:10 AM PST Hey so I just built my first PC. Realising there is no wifi. So what do I need to get? Anything specific? [link] [comments]
Posted: 05 Jan 2020 01:40 PM PST Hey everybody, I'm putting together a build for the new year! its an upgrade to my several year old PC but the only thing ill be reusing are the 3 drives (2 ssd and an hdd). I'm just looking for any compatibility issues i might be missing, or any suggestions on the build in general. https://pcpartpicker.com/user/RevengeoftheHippo/saved/TKwtpg thanks all! Posted: 05 Jan 2020 06:11 AM PST My GPU, the geforce rtx 2070 super, has a 6+2pcie and a 6 pcie slot. However, my psu only comes with 6+2 cables. Should I order a 6pin pcie? [link] [comments]
First ever gaming PC build. Looking for some advice. Posted: 05 Jan 2020 06:06 AM PST Hi guys, this is my first ever (gaming) PC build. Please check out the PC Part Picker list. In general, what is your opinion/feedback on whether these components fit well together? Also, should I compensate on other parts in order to get a better GPU, if so what would you recommend? Thanks in advance! EDIT: Budget is around 1100 euros and I'm from the Netherlands. It's also important for me that the PC isn't making too much noise. New GPU not sending any signal to monitor Posted: 05 Jan 2020 01:00 PM PST So I just bought a RX 560 to add into my computer, but when I try to boot with the GPU installed it doesn't send any signal to the monitor. I have an integrated graphics that works just fine with the same cable (HDMI) I'm trying to use in the GPU, so I'm thinking that the cable isn't the problem. I recently just changed my motherboard so I hope that a broken PCI-E isn't the case. My config: CPU: I3-4170 MB: H81M-A/BR RAM: 8GB DDR3 POWER: 500W Thank you guys. Edit: I've updated the bios and tried using both HDMI and DVI cable in both motherboard and GPU with no success [link] [comments]
Posted: 05 Jan 2020 12:50 PM PST Hey there everyone on r/buildapc quick question, what would be the best sub 300$ usd gpu for 1440p 144hz for games like assassin's creed odyssey and overwatch, i am definitely ok with used hardware aswell. I've seen gtx 1080s for around 300$ and 1070tis for 260/270$, rx 5700 for 300$, and so on. I have an ryzen 5 1600 soon to be something newer, and a 600w power supply. Also the GPU I currently have is a GTX 980 so anything decently better than the 980 would be great. Edit: 1440p 144hz at medium - high settings I understand the limits of my CPU and potential gpu [link] [comments]
Posted: 05 Jan 2020 02:41 PM PST Does it make sense to go for a 1660 Super when I could get a Vega 56 for a few bucks less? The Vega usually outperforms the 1660 Super, however it needs a lot more wattage, it would be louder since it's the ASRock reference design and it is a good bit older. Maybe I'm just overthinking but I can't quite decide which one would better suite me, so I was wondering what you would pick if you were to make this decision with regards to the future. Posted: 05 Jan 2020 02:45 AM PST Building my first PC soon, currently have a pre-built (judge me). Any recommendations on what parts I should get if I want to play games like Battlefield 5, Battlefront 2, siege, heavily modded skyrim, Witcher 3, Cyber Punk 2077, The Outer Worlds, and Jedi the Fallen Order? I was looking at getting an RX 5700xt, 16gb RAM, i5-9400f. My question is, do I NEED these specs to run these games at 1080p 60+ FPS? Or should I go for a lower end build and save some money? Not worried about future proofing it too much as I'd probably buy new parts within 1-2 years. Can't upgrade my pre-built as I'm selling it. Any recommendations on parts? TL;DR: the most graphically intensive games I want to play are Battlefield 5, Jedi the Fallen Order, and Battlefront 2. What parts should I get to save money and not buy something that I don't really need? [link] [comments]
Ready to buy, last minute critique welcome Posted: 05 Jan 2020 09:24 AM PST Build Help/Ready: Have you read the sidebar and rules? (Please do) Yes What is your intended use for this build? The more details the better. Almost exclusively gaming. I will be playing all types of games, from small indie titles to AAA games. If gaming, what kind of performance are you looking for? (Screen resolution, framerate, game settings) I'm looking for at minimum 60fps at 1440p at max settings. What is your budget (ballpark is okay)? ~£1800 In what country are you purchasing your parts? UK Post a draft of your potential build here (specific parts please). Consider formatting your parts list. Don't ask to be spoonfed a build (read the rules!).

Posted: 05 Jan 2020 02:15 PM PST I would like a device that would let me connect all my peripherals via one cable. The idea is that I could have my pc in a different part of the house from my desk, and I would only need one wire to run through the house. Here is a sketch of my idea. Does something like this exist? Thanks. Edit: - The device would not need to include the power cable, but DisplayPort is a must - The connection should be wired and not introduces more than 2ms latency Update: I found what I am looking for! They are called KVM Extenders [link] [comments]
Is there a budget equivalent to Herman Miller chairs? Posted: 05 Jan 2020 12:02 PM PST I've been looking for a quality chair that supports my back during long sessions on my PC. https://www.staples.com/staples-hyken-technical-mesh-task-chair-silver-53293/product_24328579 [link] [comments]
Prime95 errors with AMD Threadripper 3970X build Posted: 05 Jan 2020 09:14 AM PST I'm currently characterizing and stress-testing my new work machine. Here are the specs:
I've started by running memtest86 overnight (default settings) and it has found no error. Unfortunately, Prime95's "Small FFTs" torture test does find errors quite quickly, after only a few minutes. CPU temperature does not exceed 78°C. The CPU doesn't appear to be throttling. The PSU is delivering about 370 W (it goes up to 580 W when stressing the GPU as well, and I'm questioning whether my old but trusty HX750i is big enough for this machine -- but that shouldn't be the problem here since the GPU is idle in this test, the PSU fan isn't even spinning). I've taken a screenshot during the stress test, can anyone spot anything weird? I've noticed that Vcore's min value is really low at 0.624 V (I don't know at what point it got that low, it could have been way before the stress test), is that expected? It appears to be stable at around 1.068 V during Prime95. Could it be that the RAM isn't stable at its spec frequency (despite passing memtest86) and that I should underclock it somewhat? Any other idea? [1] I just noticed that last time I rebooted it switched back to its non-XMP frequency of 2400 MHz, something I'll have to investigate as well. Wondering if I should bother upgrading gpu again or not Posted: 05 Jan 2020 11:59 AM PST Hey! Currently I'm running an i7 2600k (haven't overclocked it) and my graphics card is an 8 gig 480x Am I at the point (for gaming, and browsing/YouTube on a second monitor) that I should stop bothering to upgrade the gpu and just go full new PC? Or is a 2600k still competent enough to pair with a newer graphics card again? I'm aware the 2600k is like at least 10 years old at this point but was just wondering Main monitor is 4k side is a smaller 1080 My ram is also still only 8 gigs which might be the issue? Thanks [link] [comments] |
