    Finally finished my wall-mount pc.

    Posted: 19 Nov 2019 07:01 AM PST

So happy with this build. Took a few days, but I think it turned out great.

I love to repurpose, so I used some tongue and groove flooring for the board. I had an old Allen condenser meter that I picked up years ago at a flea market and used the front face, vacuum tubes, and coil to mount for flavor. The power and reset button are also integrated into the meter face.

    Feel free to destroy me!

Installed new graphics card and now my PC is bricked.

    Posted: 19 Nov 2019 01:20 PM PST

Upgraded from an RX550 to a 570. Tried booting with the 570 installed and the case fans started but nothing on screen. Made sure the cables were connected properly and tried again, still nothing. Figured it was a bricked card (not the first time that's happended after ordering from Amazon) so I decided to go back to my 550. Now the same thing is happening with my 550 (black screen, no boot) which has worked fine for the past 2 years. Case fans and GPU fans are spinning but there's no power LED light on the case and the only way I can turn off the PC after turning it on is either by flipping the switch on the power bar or PSU itself, holding/pressing case power button does nothing. Anyone have any ideas?

    Fresh OS install, keep files?

    Posted: 19 Nov 2019 10:19 AM PST

Hi all, if I install a fresh OS on a new ssd (Samsung evo 860) and use my old ssd as a backup storage, would I be able to remove windows on the old ssd as well as keep the files for my games (fortnite, borderlands 3) so I won't have to download them again? Thought about cloning but not sure if I wanna do that with the 860.

Are ryzen mobos too expensive and should i just go with intel or not?

    Posted: 19 Nov 2019 09:13 AM PST

Hey yall, i know ive been posting about this for quite a few times now, my uncle telling me about b450 mobos being too expensive, and that going with a h310 and a i3 8100 (or i3 9100f for that matter) is better, but i edit video, i know that ryzen is way better in that price segment, and no, there are no b350 mobos currently available,so look at this:

I will have 7.5k EGP, get a case and a psu for 1500,ram is 1400, and ill just get a used gpu, i still dont know what to get but ill get to that, now a h310 costs about 1250, a i3 8100 costs about 1800,and the i3 9100f about 1450, a ryzen 5 2600 will cost 2500 and the asrock steel legend b450m will be 1600, ill get a used gpu anyway since the 1650 does not compare to the 570,NOW my question is....what do i do? I really want the ryzen because i know b450 mobos have upgradability that is really good and i want it to last, but in the same time if i go cheaper i might be able to get a better gpu, but as i said i edit videos and photos.

Im getting this pc for my birthday(November 30th) and i want it to last with me for like 2 years, my monitor is 1600*900 60hz, i like to play AAA titles often and edit videos that are recorded on the same pc

    Your thoughts are welcome.

New build. Can anyone go over it and critique it a little bit?

    Posted: 19 Nov 2019 09:10 AM PST

My budget was 800. but i'm a little over it.Anything you guys can fix to make it around there or am I good now? I'm not a heavy gamer -- 60-70 FPS on 1080 on most games is fine by me.

What do you guys think? Should I add another case fan in there? would really like to pull the trigger today.

Hey, I need help. Any is appreciated. I'm only 13 and building my first for Christmas! :)

So, I was wondering whether this build was good and worth its money, if not you may change it and just link it! Also, the list has a case that has delivery times for over a month and is not the nicest imo. If someone could analyze the parts and link a new list with a better case that'd be so great. Thanks!

Which should I focus on upgrading next? CPU or GPU?

    Posted: 19 Nov 2019 12:33 AM PST

Hi! Just wanted some input on which I should prioritize first.

    • Current CPU: Intel Core i5-8400 @ 2.80GHz

    • Current GPU: GTX 1060

I also live in Australia if that's any relevance.

I usually use my pc for gaming, but do occasionally use video editing software. I've been told that my 1060 is a bit outdated now, and so I've been looking at the 1080ti, specifically at the used market.

But I don't want my CPU to be left out. I've noticed when trying to run some games or minecraft mods, control panel will put the CPU at 100%, which makes me think that my CPU probably needs upgrading as well.

Should I go for a 1080ti or a different card? Also, what is a good processor that's good value? I wouldn't want to spent any more than $1000 AUD in total.

    Thanks!

RX 5700 or GTX 1660 Ti?

    Posted: 19 Nov 2019 01:31 PM PST

    Hi everyone,

I'm planning a 1440p build at 60 fps. I've found two gpus that I'm having a tough time choosing between.

This sapphire 5700 for £270 with a code

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sapphire-RADEON-RX-5700-8GB-GDDR6-Graphics-Card/293154355134

or this gtx 1660 ti for £260

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07NWD9VGH/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&psc=1

From what I've seen, the 5700 should be the clear choice but I'm concerned about a couple of things. The main one is the blower style fan. I may want to overclock and try and reach higher fps. I have no idea how to overclock and how much improvement you can get so idk if it's worth it. I hear you need good cooling to overclock and the blower puts me off.

Secondly, I'm not sure if the gtx will be discounted on black friday, if it does that will make it far more appealing if it gets nearer to 200

I also hear the 5700 is noisy and hot af, so I'm wondering if any owners have any experiences they wanna share.

For reference I'm planning a ryzen 3600 build with a fractal design focus g for a case

    Thanks

    9900K 2070 Super vs. 9700K 2080 Super

    Posted: 19 Nov 2019 01:19 PM PST

Which one would you guys choose? Could it be further optimized in any way? I mostly want it for gaming and just general productivity. Also is there another CPU/ GPU combo that might be just as good for my needs?

    9900K 2070 Super

    9700K 2080 Super

Budget is ~$2000CAD (~$1500USD), a couple hundred over is fine.

I guess the question comes down to whether it is better to prioritize your CPU or your GPU?

Is overclocking reasonable for my build?

    Posted: 19 Nov 2019 01:19 PM PST

    Hey guys,

I've read some stuff about overclocking and it doesn't seem difficult, but I've never done it. I'm just wondering if it's reasonable for my build, or whether it gets reasonable in a few years (due to 144hz monitor and 1440p). I cannot afford a new CPU or GPU, but they shouldn't be damaged anyway, if i am able to follow yt tutorials.

Finally getting into PC gaming, help lol

    Posted: 19 Nov 2019 01:04 PM PST

OK so the announcement of Half Life Alyx has finally convinced me to get a gaming PC. Im a console only gamer who first experienced the Half Life games on the Orange Box on the Xbox 360 and completely fell in love. Despite playing on console, i'm probably more familiar with the Half Life story/lore than most PC gamers. I was always hoping that the next HL game (whenever it finally came out) would also be on console, but that is obviously not going to happen now. Not only that, but its apparent that it will also be a VR-only game. So i've finally decided to take the plunge and get into PC gaming. This is what finally pushed me over the edge. So.....

I need to get a gaming PC and a VR headset. I have a good amount of money saved up already thankfully. I want to get the Valve Index headset, I know it's the most expensive but it's a future investment and I want the best experience. I just need advice on the PC.

The steam store page for the Index says the recommended PC specs are a Quad core+ Processor with an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 or better and a USB 3.0+ port. Now I dont know too much about building a PC, so are there any good pre-built PCs out there that match those recommended specs? I know some pre-built PCs out there from certain stores can be crap (or not as advertised), so I'd like some advice. How much would a PC with those specs set me back? I have a budget of about $1000-$1500 for the PC alone, though i'd obviously like to spend as little as possible, plus I need to purchase the Index separately as well. It's of course all a big future investment. And then there's the monitor. I'd like a decently sized 144Hz monitor.

Best Buy would be the best source, since i'm currently applying for a job there and would get an employee discount if I get the job. And if not, I already have a friend who works there, so I can use his discount.

So basically, I would like advice on a good pre-built VR-ready gaming PC with the Index recommended specs for about $1000-$1500 as well as a good decently sized 144Hz monitor. Sorry if I sound stupid or misinformed on any of this, like I said i'm a console only gamer currently so I dont know too much about all of this yet but I want to learn. Any other advice/tips for setting it all up would be appreciated as well.

    Thanks in advance guys!

Hardware issue (I think). Can't boot into any OS. I have tried Windows 10, 8 and 7 and Ubuntu.

    Posted: 19 Nov 2019 12:59 PM PST

    Parts list

    https://pcpartpicker.com/list/VCLfPn

    The problem

I built my PC and had a windows 10 bootable USB Drive. First couple of times the PC would restart when trying to install from the USB. After a couple of tries the PC installs the Windows 10 OS without any problems and I am able to update to the latest versions. I started playing Battlefield V and the screen went black and the PC entered a infinite restarting loop. Windows logo pops up for a second, sometimes it stays on screen longer than other times, and then the screen goes black and restarts again.

All my hardware shows up in the BIOS and the ASUS Q-LEDs turn off indicating no problem.

    What have I tried

I have tried using different ISO's for different operating systems but they all have the same issue. Show the windows logo for a bit and then restart. Or in Ubuntus case show the logo real quick and reboot.

I have reseated the ram and disconnected everything and connected everything again with no luck.

I have tried different USB's to turn into a bootable drive but to no success. What should be the next step?

$600 Budget for some upgrades - need some help

    Posted: 19 Nov 2019 12:51 PM PST

I had to sell my graphics card a few months back to make ends meet, but now I have a much better job and I'm looking to get back into a little gaming.

    I still have a Ryzen 5 1600 and 16GB (2666).

My question is this: should I use the $600 I have saved up and buy a RTX 2060 Super or should I replace a few more parts and go with a Ryzen 7 2700x, 16GB (3200) and a 1660ti?

I'm looking for fps above 60 at 1080p.

Any combination of the above or other suggestions would be welcome! Thank you!

    Graphics card

    Posted: 19 Nov 2019 12:47 PM PST

I'm planning on getting my first pc for Christmas and not sure on which graphics card to get.

The two that I am considering is the Gtx 1650 or Rx 570.

From looking online the Rx 570 is the better option but requires an 8-pin connector or something. I am not sure what connector my pc that I am planning to get has so would it be better to take the safe, but more expensive route and get the Gtx 1650 which only requires a 6-pin connector?
