    Looking for a good 1440p 144hz monitor

    Posted: 04 Jun 2021 06:21 AM PDT

I have two monitors atm but it's the classic nice monitor and the monitor that you randomly found in the basement that runs at 720p kind of monitor. I want to replace it with a 1440p 144hz to make as my main monitor. Looking for something in the $200-low 300's price range and at least 23inches. Wondered if anyone had good recommendations

    5600x + RAM vs 5800x for multitasking

    Posted: 04 Jun 2021 01:32 PM PDT

I am looking to upgrade my PC so that I am able to multitask without stuttering and frame drops. Multitasking includes mostly gaming/coding while watching streams/videos and having a ton of tabs open. I managed to get my hands on a 3070 and my 2600x is causing a bottleneck, so my thoughts were to either upgrade to a 5600x + an extra 16GB of RAM ($280 + $90) or 5800x + CPU cooler (370+90 no ram).

    Is the performance between 5600x + 32GB RAM and 5800x + 16gb RAM really worth 100 dollars?

    This is my current build:

Shockingly Low Framerates on my RTX 3070 @ 1080p

    Posted: 04 Jun 2021 04:20 AM PDT

    Hi all,

A couple months ago I bought a 1080/144hz monitor to go with my new PC - I avoided a 1440p one because it was like £180 extra and from the benchmarks I saw a lot of the games I play couldn't hit 144hz at that resolution. At 1080p, I thought, I should be able to max my frames and graphics on basically anything and be fine. Haha.

Anyway, since I've got it performance on different games has fluctuated. Some stuff runs at 144hz flawlessly, but other games, like Fortnite and FFXIV, can't maintain that a lot of the time. Fortnite, for instance, reaches highs of 170fps and lows of 60 at times, and the constant dips are really frustrating. When I look at my task manager, my CPU often hangs at 40% utilization and my GPU hangs at 60%, so I don't think there's a bottleneck. Temps are also reasonable, around 60 degrees Celsius. I've tried changing my power settings, re-downloading my drivers, but nothing sticks. When I turn down the graphics settings there isn't that much of a performance increase and it certainly isn't hitting 144hz constantly, but I'm really confused as to why. Can you help, Reddit?

    My build:

GPU: Gigabyte RTX 3070 Gaming OC

    CPU: Ryzen 7 PRO 4750G

MOBO: Gigabyte B550 Aorus Elite AX V2

    RAM: 32GB DDR4 (2X16)

    OS: Windows 10 Home

Dipping out of the GPU market for the rest of the year

    Posted: 04 Jun 2021 11:03 AM PDT

Anyone else tempted to do this? I'm so sick and tired of day to day having to constantly check for restocks, trying to fight off bots and scalpers to get a card in time, and seeing ridiculously inflated prices everywhere.

I think I'm going to take a break until maybe like December or into early next year and come back to see the state of the market. Or hey if I wait even longer for like a couple of years maybe I could just log onto Amazon or Newegg at that point and click on a card of my choosing to check out and order at a decent price. One can dream.

Time to accept I'm using a 1660 Super the rest of the year and into 2022 and go from there. Maybe if I squint while I play on my 4K TV it won't look so bad.

I don't think it's too much to ask wanting to upgrade my system to be next gen capable without paying an arm and a leg but the combination of circumstances that's led us to this insanity of a GPU market this year says differently.

Windows won’t boot on new pc

    Posted: 04 Jun 2021 08:16 AM PDT

    New pc wont boot windows

So i'm trying to setup my new pc i built (note: i'm completely new to this and know nothing about pcs) and i'm having trouble setting up windows.

i've downloaded it onto a usb and when i enter the usb into my case, motherboard and literally any other place (i've tried everything) it doesn't let me enter bios with it in. so i've tried taking it out and it lets me into bios but does not have the usb info.

i've changed the boot priority. i've reseted my pc using the button on my case while the usb is in, out and before. and i've tried putting it in after i enter bios and resetting but nothing works and it's very frustrating.

motherboard: b550m tomahawk and monitor: Acer Nitro VG270 case (if it matters): MSI MPG GUNGNIR 110R cpu: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X

    anyone know what's up

Should I side grade my GPU?

    Posted: 04 Jun 2021 06:51 AM PDT

So long story short, my 970 is dying. Games give low fps where they didn't use to, red pixels show in dark areas etc. Normally I'd upgrade but with the current market, that's obviously not an option.

I found a rx 580 for sale at $370. Should I buy it now considering the current situation or will the market correct itself soon and I would regret it?

    Best setup of storage drives?

    Posted: 04 Jun 2021 07:50 AM PDT

    Hello there!

(TL:DR at the bottom). I am planning on changing the storage setup in my gaming PC. Currently I am using a 1TB Samsung EVO 970 NVME for OS, programs and games with some additional 2TB WD Black HDD for data and some older games. I already put all my huge data files to my NAS and plan to get rid of the HDD in my system and only use M.2 SSDs. My system even supports two NVMEs so no worries towards that.

For this setup I am planning a 256GB Samsung PRO NVME for OS and programs and any "cheap" 2TB M.2 SSD for games and any other data needed on the PC. Everything else will be on my NAS. I can get the 2TB Samsung EVO 970 NVME quite cheap so that could be the secondary drive. I was also thinking about the 256GB Samsung OEM NVME for my boot drive but I do not quite get the difference between this one and the PRO.

TL:DR: Does anyone have experience with dual NVME setups without HDD? I am coming from a time and mindset where you still avoided storing and writing too much on SSDs. Does that setup make sense or are there any heavy overkills wasting my money? I play many games which are known for extremely bad loading times so any speed increase is welcome. Is there a notable difference between 500MB and 7000MB per second of reading speed or is it getting redundant at those numbers?

    Thank you!

Help a polish gal out c:

    Posted: 04 Jun 2021 02:05 PM PDT

    hello!

So I'm from Poland and I'm struggling greatly on what to do here. I have zero to non knowledge about computer parts so please try not to bully me too much hah. I have a 6yo laptop (texts i can see on it are strix, asus, intel core i7, nvida geforce gtx 960m). I use it for gaming (mainly valorant), streaming and digital art. It works suprisingly ok, i can play valorant on 60-70fps while streaming and about 120 when im not streaming. I use it on a kinda dual monitor setup with a iiyama (hawk? i cant remember the model) monitor connected to it.

    stuff i found in settings: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700HQ CPU @ 2.60GHz 2.59 GHz, RAM 8,00 GB (7,88 GB usable)

In the last few weeks I started noticing those short "freezes" (less than a second but are there) every few minutes and it really ruins my performance and streams and whole gaming experience. Also in my drawing program (autodesk sketchbook) i cant use the blur tool because it just takes literally hours to load and seems to overheat my computer like crazy.

I was wondering if there's something better out there that I can get for about 3000pln? (about 650 euros). I can maybe maybe stretch the budget out a tiny bit but i literally have 3200pln to my name hah. Or is it kinda the top performance im gonna get for that money anyway? If there would be an increase in performance - how much? Any polish folks able to push me in the right direction?

So I guess this is a general question - if I can and should build a pc with my budget?

I want to be able to stream without a problem, play other shooters and do some digital art and maybe edit videos.

    Thanks for your time!

    A new GPU

    Posted: 04 Jun 2021 03:18 PM PDT

Unfortunately my GPU has died and I need to get a new one. The shop i took my PC to said they had a GTX1650 for $500. My old GPU was a GTX970. How does the GTX1650 compare to the GTX970? Does anyone know where I can get a new GPU close to the specs of my old GPU?

Trying to record and game using 2 different GPUs

    Posted: 04 Jun 2021 03:15 PM PDT

    Hi!

I have a PC in which I have a GTX 780Ti and a GTX 1050Ti (weird combination, but what I could get during the Scalpocylpse)

The GTX 780Ti is more powerful than the GTX 1050Ti, but the GTX 1050Ti has a better NVENC encoder, I wanted to use the GTX 780Ti for the game and the the GTX 1050Ti for OBS but it doesn't want to work no matter what settings I chose, I tried using my CPU to record and it also drops frames, I am recording 1440p@60fps

Any PC gaming monitor experts out there?

    Posted: 04 Jun 2021 07:06 AM PDT

First of all, thanks for taking your time to read my post. I'm an old man finally treating himself to a long needed PC upgrade for our humble hobby. My current rig is seeing her age (been with me since 2015).

Here are the new spec highlights:

    CPU: AMD Ryzen™ 9 5900X

    HDD: 1TB SAMSUNG 980 PRO

    MEMORY: 32GB (8GBx4) DDR4/4000MHz

MOTHERBOARD: MSI MPG X570 GAMING PRO CARBON

    VIDEO: GeForce RTX™ 3080

The goal was to avoid performance bottlenecks and to really let the hardware shine with a monitor to compliment the guts. Back in the day, I went with the ASUS VS278Q-P monitor. It's only 1080p and 60hz. I'm ready to venture forth into 1440p or 4K with 144hz or better and HDR.

I've tried to do my own research and reading into ideal gaming monitors (under $1K), but the specs and info has become overwhelming. I've seen curved monitors, and I'm not a fan. I think I'd want something probably 27".

With my current research, the most regularly praised 27" monitors are the MSI Optix MAG274QRF-QD (165hz and 1440p), LG 27GN950-B (144hz and 4K), and ASUS ROG Strix XG279Q (170hz and 1440p). The one thing that seems to stand out amongst them are a lack of true HDR brights and blacks.

    Thanks again!

Can a motherboard not power a 25$ headphones to full volume?

My previous mb z87 sniper and my previous monitor both could power my cheap headphones to very high volume,,but my new Mb (msi b550 pro vdh wifi) doesn't,, volume is low even with all the updates for windows and drivers ,,loudness equalization seems to help but it evens the frequencies,, and the sound should sound good without it anyway,,my friend has the same setup with the same headphones but it seems fine and loudness equalization doesn't make a change for him,,anyone has a solution? And would a usb DAC help power it up or any future good headphone Iam willing to buy?,, Note: the headphone sound is low also on my laptop

Should I return my 5900x and wait?

    Posted: 04 Jun 2021 10:31 AM PDT

In preparation of a theorized mythological upgrade from a 1080 to a 3080, I purchased a larger case to house the card, a 5900x to avoid bottlenecking, and a new AM4-compatible mobo.

I've been busy and so missed the recent hubbub from AMD in all of its entirety, but I know enough: new architecture coming, 3D chipsets, Zen 4 on the horizon, DDR5 compatibility, etc.

Not sure now if I should even put this together or wait until this new shit is released? I know future proofing is bs, but I'm worried about pigeon holing myself with old outdated tech standards.

Ps, I'm notorious for feeling buyers remorse so if it's just sounding like that dont hesitate to lmk lol

Going for a CPU Upgrade and need some guidance

    Posted: 04 Jun 2021 02:14 PM PDT

With the growing impossibility to get a Diskless PS5, I want to somewhat take matters into my own hands. I'm specifically trying to prep for Scarlet Nexus and Tales of Arise, both of which are coming to PC and have their sys requirements. I'd rather not spend too much if I don't have too. If it can look decent while running well, I'm a happy camper. I was mainly looking at and got recommended the Ryzen 3 1200, but I hear mixed results. I'm not interested in 4k or anything. If I can hit High/Medium with 60fps, I'm more than a happy camper, I just need to know if I'm in over my head with trying to stay cheap. Thanks for even taking the time to respond.

    Currently I have:

    • AMD Anthlon200GE with Radeon Vega Graphics 3.20GHz
    • RX 570 4GB
    • 8GB of RAM

    Now Tales of Arise recommends:

    • Processor: Intel Core i5-4590 or AMD FX-8350

    Scarlet Nexus:

    • Processor: Intel Core i7-6600 | AMD Ryzen 5 2600X

    Advice on build

    Posted: 04 Jun 2021 02:14 PM PDT

I am making a PC for a friend who's budget is 1000$. I came up with a build that's going to cost them around 850$ which leaves some money for peripherals. I need advice to see if this build is worth it and is good:

    [PCPartPicker Part List](https://pcpartpicker.com/list/CtFDgt)

    **CPU** | [Intel Core i3-9100F 3.6 GHz Quad-Core Processor]

**CPU Cooler** | [Cooler Master MASTERLIQUID ML240L RGB V2 65.59 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler]

**Motherboard** | [MSI MAG Z390 TOMAHAWK ATX LGA1151 Motherboard

    **Memory** | [Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory]

**Storage** | [Samsung 970 Evo Plus 500 GB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive]

**Storage** | [Seagate Barracuda Compute 2 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive]

**Video Card** | [MSI GeForce GTX 1060 6GB 6 GB GAMING X Video Card]

**Case** | [Phanteks Eclipse P400A Digital ATX Mid Tower Case]

**Power Supply** | [Corsair RM (2019) 750 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply]

I am giving them a spare GPU so they won't have to worry on spending a fortune on a new one.
