Could Intel use Optane to help PCIe 5.0 adoption and vice versa? Posted: 29 May 2021 06:03 PM PDT I don't remember what the bandwidth figures for Optane/3D XPoint are off-hand, but I know it's better than NAND flash, and IIRC the latency is a lot better. I'm pretty sure bandwidth-wise, PCIe Gen 5.0 will rival DDR4. Optane might not have been as competitive with NAND when NAND was already able to saturate PCIe 3.0 and 4.0, but given how the focus on NAND has been on TLC and QLC, which actually make Flash slower, could PCIe 5.0 make 3D XPoint so fast that NAND can't catch up?
